It's the fact that the photo looks practised that freaks me out a bit. He clearly thinks it's meant to look commanding or powerful or - something. I'm assuming "potty" wasn't the look he was going for.

I agree. I can imagine Trump practising for hours in the mirror to achieve that hard man / evil look. Probably to deter his inmates should he end up in prison.

Reminds me of my passport photo - hair behind ears, no glasses, and no smile - I looked awful and I’m stuck with it on my driving licence too. So they must have similar rules for taking mugshots in the US.

Oh God, my last passport and driving licence photo is really flattering, mainly because it doesn't look like me. Now in the throes of getting a new passport took it along to the Post Office where the woman at the counter said, "you will need new photos counter signed, you don't look like you do in your previous photo" drats!

Trump has gone quite white, maybe realising contrary to defunct phone company's mantra "The future isn't bright, the future isn't orange!"

Not really, the papers are showing two of his co-defendants smiling, teeth aglow, quite the opposite of a mugshot.

That picture literally sends a chill down my spine. However, I saw a programme some years ago and his father Fred Trump also had a rather scary look in his eyes.

I can't believe Trump was happy with that photo. Maybe it was fixed. If they took a series of fast-shutter clicks it would be easy to find a bad one amongst them. The most evil one. And as mentioned, it doesn't look like a mug shot.
