Should the President of the Spanish FA resign

Or not?

I think he should, then I think he shouldn't.

Should he be forgiven in the light of the excitement prevailing at the time? Or not?

BlueBelle Sat 26-Aug-23 18:22:49

I am not defending the man but I do not believe his actions were for a sexual thrill
I m afraid you are defending him Anniebach and his overt control and sexual superiority
And why the crotch pulling / touching / grabbing just prior
that’s not sexual either I guess !!!

Anniebach

She had both arms free but no attempt to push him away

I admired her for that. She put herself in a good light and she didn’t have to show him up as he managed that all by himself.

Most unusual for almost an entire staff to resign. This all suggests people are believing their eyes and the player.

I doubt they would resign over the one incident. On I player there are descriptions of his history - previous complaints and bullying allegations

Yes I agree. I posted too soon and didn't bother with a second post, but thought it suggested this was the final straw.

And look at the hug he gave her.... it went on and on and he practically lifted her off her feet. She's standing on tiptoe.

Sparklefizz Sat 26-Aug-23 17:39:57

Yes, Ilovecheese, so depressing.

He did it because he knew he could get away with it and she wouldn't want to make a fuss while the cameras of the world were upon them. There are many men like that. It's all about control.

Anniebach You may have been lucky enough not to come across men like this. Unfortunately I have.

His sense of entitlement and sheer arrogance have spoilt the team's triumph. Shame on him.

These sort of excuses for men are just so depressing.

Sparklefizz Sat 26-Aug-23 17:29:12

Anniebach He was controlling and gave her no choice.

We can never know that, but he clearly invaded her personal space, more than with just a congratulatory hug.

Anniebach Sat 26-Aug-23 17:07:51

BlueBell the win had no effect on the man ?

GrannySomerset Sat 26-Aug-23 17:07:34

And meanwhile one man’s sense of entitlement over-rides an amazing female achievement!

Oh Annie come on you re in the middle of the euphoria of winning a huge game there are thousands and thousands of people watching hes a very forceful man (there has been trouble with him in the past) and you expect her to say ‘stop it boss I don’t want you to kiss me’ pleeeeze
Get real

Wheniwasyourage Sat 26-Aug-23 16:44:37

Perhaps he said, as he should have done, “Congratulations”. That is not the same as “Stand still while I kiss you while holding your head”.

Anniebach Sat 26-Aug-23 16:40:53

Why are you looking for excuses for this man Glorianna it was unnecessary and all it needed was a humble (a lot of men don’t do humble) apology “ I am really sorry, in the heat of the moment and excitement I went a step too far” that was ALL that’s was needed but his over inflated ego and his self importance wouldn’t let him do that
As for the crotch clutching…. yuk

My friend who is 87 told me that once when she was a young teen an elderly uncle of hers at a family do grabbed her pulled her into a kiss and stuck his tongue in her mouth. She bit it. I doubt I d have been that quick thinking or dare to do it she said he never bothered her again 😂

It's not an excuse. It is a fact. As I said I have no idea what he said. I know what he claims he said and I know there are many posts on this thread saying he hadn't time to say anything, but he plainly did.
I don't like accusations which ignore or dismiss the truth and I don't care if it's a man or a woman involved.
I agree he could have apologised.
But it seems obvious that he is going to claim he asked permission. Perhaps a good lip reader will explain his words.

He’s now claiming he asked for a quick peck and she agreed. I’ve seen a brief video of him repeating he won’t resign. The men in the audience applauding enthusiastically. The few women not.

I've had another look t this and he definitely says something to her before he pulls her forward to kiss her
What it is I can't tell.

I noticed that too, Glorianny. Also, as she emerged from his embrace she was smiling broadly. Just saying.
I'm not condoning his behaviour though. He should have restrained himself. I found his crotch grab unpleasant too.

Well of course she was smiling broadly - her team had just won the world cup!

... doubt it was because he'd kissed her on the mouth.

Let's face it - the only way the the misogynists and those who make excuses for them would be happy is if she did what so many women do when having to suffer unwonted 'affection' by men,,, suck it up and stay quiet.

If you speak out - there will always be a barrage of the, "oh, for heaven's sake, it was only"... euphoria / fun / an affectionate gesture / whatever. Then the 'poor man' will become the victim because he had to resign, and he didn't mean any harm... you can't say or do anything these days without the feminazis taking offence. It's all so predictable.

We raise our daughters and they raise their daughters to believe that they have the right not to be touched intimately - and a mouth-kiss is intimate - without consent, by anyone, and then blow me, it happens on the world-stage and so many are bending over backwards to find the "yes, but... angle.

One thing I must smack myself round the head for is that I didn't watch the video - instead I accepted the reports, on here, of the 'pat on the bottom' which will teach me in future to examine the evidence myself. But the head-clasp was real. At least the man had the sense not to do that.

Iam64 Sat 26-Aug-23 14:54:48

BlueBelle - I’ve had one face grabbed, pulled down held while the man planted a long kiss on my closed lips. It was towards the end of a long drink taken meal with a group of 18 friends. I was walking past him on my way to bed, I’d had 1 glass of wine, most others including him, drank more. I managed to pull away, he said loudly, I need more sex. I told him - you aren’t going to get that from me”. I looked round, no one appeared to have noticed or heard anything. My husband was across the table, deep in conversation. I decided not to ‘make a fuss’ though I was livid.
I told 4 female friends the next morning, 2 said he’d done similar to them. One said ‘he wouldn’t dare do that to me’ - putting the 3 of us firmly in our ‘easy victim’ place.

BlueBelle Sat 26-Aug-23 14:41:17

He’s now saying I asked her if she minded a little peck and she said fine, now that’s a load of bull, there was no conversation between them, and no time for one, he kissed every other girl on the ear, side of the face, but with her he grabbed her head with both hands and kissed her full on the mouth she could not have escaped, she was clearly embarrassed in front of so many thousands and just smiled as she walked off that does nt make it right or mean she was comfortable with it.
It happened three times with me when I was young
One man pushed me in the little tearoom at work and pushed me against the wall and kissed me I wriggled out of his grasp away, he was a friend of my dads I never told my dad he would have been angry
The second time I was working as a chamber maid in a big hotel while the children were at school an old man probably well into his 60 s + asked me if I could help him move a mattress up to the attic rooms I never dreamed of anything bad and said ‘of course’ we carried the mattress up the stairs and as we laid it on the floor he pushed me down onto it luckily I was young and nimble enough to get up before he got down and I ran The third time was a different job and the boss whose wife worked there as well was always making situations where he would pass me closely so he could rub his body against mine, but I needed the job and didn’t want to upset the wife so I just kept my wits about me and made sure I was never in a position for him to do it
This is not as it should be at all
The man is a dinosaur if he thinks any of that was right

Iam64 Sat 26-Aug-23 14:14:58

90 days? Let’s hope that’s time to gather the evidence to sack him

Wyllow3 Sat 26-Aug-23 14:13:35

Luis Rubiales has just been suspended by FIFA (the international body) for 90 days.
