Or not?

I think he should, then I think he shouldn't.

Should he be forgiven in the light of the excitement prevailing at the time? Or not?

When I was 17 an oldish man did the same to me only worse he managed to prise his tongue in. I've never forgotten how bad it felt.
This guy is using his position and power to be a letch just like
The orange face American ex president.
They both need to be replaced, it's a new world of etiquette.

I haven't read all the thread, but have just seen the picture, this has probably already been pointed out, but he had his hands so firmly holding her head in place whilst he was planting the unsolicited kiss, she couldn't have escaped if she wanted to.

Sorry I got it wrong it's the President who has resigned. Can't keep up with football www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/luis-rubiales-resignation-spanish-fa-b2399588.html

Mollygo Sat 26-Aug-23 13:38:27

What’s strange about this statement by Rubiales?
“My desire in that moment was exactly the same as if I'd have been kissing one of my daughters,"

This team has wom twice- the championship and saying stop to sexual harassment and assault and uncover the culprit

The second is way bigger than the first, imho

Even my dh who is bit of a dinosaur thought it was awful and certainly inappropriate. He was really annoyed by it.

Ailidh Sat 26-Aug-23 12:14:11

I've moved from "disciplined but not sacked" to "sacked ASAP".

Like so many incidents with men who cannot admit they might have done something wrong, if he'd apologised appropriately, that could have been the end of it. Instead he's accused the player of lying and caused pressure to be brought on her to change her story to one that suits his narrative.

So not just sleazy but a bully too.

Ilovecheese Sat 26-Aug-23 12:00:43

Men will feel that they can get away with this behaviour as long as women collude in minimising it.

I have found a clip of the crotch grabbing and clearly his passions were aroused. Perhaps he has a reputation of inappropriate behaviour around the female players and this has been the final straw. He quite rightly has to face the consequences of his subsequent arrogance.
Is it the way of the world now that when, at the very least, a person should show some humility and offer an apology, they refuse to acknowledge wrongdoing and turn the tables by accusing the complainer of lying? Hell mend us if we support that state of affairs.

Wyllow3 Sat 26-Aug-23 11:39:36

It has that feeling of things having come to a head that have been rumbling away. Probably not just one person, more a culture.

I have been sexually assaulted many times at Wales/England rugby matches and didn’t know

Louella12 Sat 26-Aug-23 11:20:48

It's one sorry mess and will tarnish their win

Callistemon21 Sat 26-Aug-23 11:18:52

Streaky

It is now being reported that the Spanish FA are taking legal action against the player for lying. Unbelievable!

He's trying to claim she lifted him by his hips off his feet 🤨 but the video quite clearly shows him lifting her off her feet!

Wyllow3 Sat 26-Aug-23 11:15:13

What an awful mess. would we tolerate it in the UK? No!

but girls and women should not have to even have to worry about it to enter the sport, imo. a quick and wholehearted apology immediately and clear guidelines on sport straightaway could have made a difference?

It looks as if the turmoil is as much to do with the need to change attitudes on society and has stirred a great deal up.

Mollygo Sat 26-Aug-23 11:12:37

At the very least he should have apologised. Yes, but that would have meant admitting he shouldn’t have done it.
Re the placement of the slap - are we now to accept that it’s OK for men to hit women anywhere on their bodies, even disguised as congratulations.
Also, crotch clutching hands then touching my face . . . Eeeuw!

Smileless2012 Sat 26-Aug-23 11:11:02

Look that way doesn't it Callistemonsad.

What?! 😲

Honestly, this is becoming a complete farce. It's as if Spanish men begrudge their women's football team winning the World Cup.
How to tarnish their moment of glory!

merlotgran Sat 26-Aug-23 11:01:29

He hasn’t resigned.

Katie59 Sat 26-Aug-23 10:55:53

At the very least he should have realized he was wrong and apologized, it shouldnt have happened a kiss on the lips is intimate.

The media reaction is over the top as usual, his position is impossible either he resigns or he will be sacked, but if anyone thinks mens attitude will change they are mistaken. Those in the public eye will be more careful, the rest will carry on as before.

Oh, I hope he has.

Smileless2012 Sat 26-Aug-23 10:42:41

It'd amazing what some people can do to cover up their upset and embarrassment henetha, especially when they know it being filmed and showed all over the world, and of course they had just won the world cup hadn't they.

I wonder if she felt like slapping his face; would no doubt have been charged with assault if she'd done so.

Pleased to hear he'd stepped down. So much for his arrogant "I wont resign, I wont resign, I wont resign".

Rosie51 Sat 26-Aug-23 10:36:39

Can you link to the announcement please Glorianny as I can't find any mention of him stepping down?

I noticed that too, Glorianny. Also, as she emerged from his embrace she was smiling broadly. Just saying.
I'm not condoning his behaviour though. He should have restrained himself. I found his crotch grab unpleasant too.
