Yes, that’s why I posted the link - but recycling is a devolved issue, and I’m in Wales DaisyAnne, we do all this already and it’s absolutely not a problem.

Actually, if you count the small grey food bin as well as the larger food bin that goes out, that makes a grand total of seven bins! 😃

Entirely focussed on the General Election. It's after the G E that counts.

I had a survey done by a reputable firm to assess the costs of a heat pump and insulation. It came to about £15,000 for the heat pump and larger radiators and about £10,000 for insulation. The grant was £5,000. I put in a new condensing gas boiler at £2,000. Sunak's increased grant of £7,500 comes nowhere near persuading me otherwise. And there's all the decorative costs afterwards. He and the net zero lobby are out of touch.

Channel 4 commissioned a poll yesterday (Find Out Now), after the announcement. They sampled 2,000 people asking whether or not they would be more or less likely to vote for the Conservatives at a General Election if the Conservatives didn't stick to their current climate change commitments.

47% said it would make any difference to how they vote. 12.3% said it would make them more likely to make them vote for the Conservatives but 40.7% said it would make them less likely to vote for the Conservatives.

In the 2,000, of those who previously voted Conservative, 51.8% said it would make no difference. 27.8% said it would make them more likely to vote for the Conservatives but 21.4% said they would be more likely not to vote for the Conservatives.

Sunak in the press conference announced a ban on a number of things that didn't actually exist.

So

A ban on 7 bins - doesn’t exist

A ban in meat tax - doesn’t exist

A ban on a flying tax - doesn’t exist

A ban on compulsory care share - doesn’t exist

A ban on compulsory domestic insulation - doesn’t exist.

I can’t remember if there was anything else, but his whole speech was based on gas lighting the voter into believing stuff that simply isn’t going to happen.

He is pandering to the right wing of the Tory party. You can hear them purring.

As another poster already said ‘common sense prevails’ 👍🏻
As someone in an old terraced house with not much available cash I’m relieved with Sunak’s statement.You can’t rush these things, many other countries aren’t rushing either and have worse emissions than the UK.They are thinking of peoples lives.
For posters calling others far right or non thinking, just stop the insults. I’m a Labour voter and live in a Labour stronghold sort of area and many here will be glad to know things have been pushed back somewhat, and we have time to prepare ourselves for it.It’s still going to happen but not too rapidly.

I don't see what your problem is. Nobody is asking you to change your car or your central heating system right this minute.

Just do it when you normally would, at the end of its useful life, and replace with a system or vehicle which conforms to the requirements for achieving net zero.

Sunsk's statement changes little if anything. You don't appear to have understood this. Rather than being "crass", I would have thought it would help you to know.

After the changes to mythical laws yesterday, there is a better chance than before of a snap election - he is certainly attempting to prepare for something. That will change things again so I really wouldnt worry until we know how.

It’s expensive to install but ours, in a new build, is not expensive to run, slow or noisy. I’m not sure what a gas engineer knows about them as they run on electricity. I wouldn’t have any other means of heating now, provided it was installed in a new build with underfloor heating and, as they are ugly things, very unobtrusively positioned, as ours is.

No, he thinks they are hopeless, unless fitted in new builds, with underfloor heating etc.

My gas boiler (bog standard multi point) will need replacing next year, and I'm doing that.

I don't need the hassle, inefficiency and noise of anything else.🙄

Unfortunately Oreo it’s pretty typical of the lack of understanding shown to posters who have less money, or posters who have concerns.

A few years back the government mandated that all new boilers should be able to run on hydrogen, but their advisors forgot to mention that the gas grid was not suitable for hydrogen. Also no thought was given to where the green hydrogen was going to come from. There is a trial currently taking place to determine wether it is practical, using fossil fuel hydrogen.

It may well be that much improved insulation levels and renewable electricity without a heat pump proves the most economic

I agree with your last paragraph. Nobody is insisting that heat pumps are installed and EPC C is achievable without one.

Heat pumps work best with ground source and underfloor heating that is expensive and disruptive to install in an existing house. It’s best suited to new build houses on a fairly large plot, smaller estate houses would use air source heat pumps which are much less efficient, in fact they have to use heater elements in very cold weather. If underfloor heating is not used then double the number of radiators are needed, in all cases a high level of insulation is needed.

So although Heat Pumps “can” be efficient and cheap to run, often they are not if they are not installed properly

There should be a high level of insulation with double glazing anyway.

In my post, I was referring to bringing a house up to EPC C level, for which a heat pump isn't even necessary. EPC C isn't that high.

It's a disgrace that landlords can make a profit from offering properties, which don't have efficient heating systems.to renters, who often have no choice.

Not sure what you mean? The food waste bin is small, solid plastic and secure because it has a lock tight lid, and you don’t put any food waste in any of the other bins, so there’s nothing for foxes.
