So very heartening to see so many people in the public eye who have taken to Twitter to protest at Bravermans racist homophobia.

In normal circumstances, ministers making these speeches are proselytising government policy, and her speech has gone world wide. She has yet again broken ministerial code as well as ignored collective responsibility. This should be her death knell but it won’t, Sunak is too weak

My grandsons girlfriend is from Egyptian parentage and Christian, (well a humanist actually but from a Christian upbringing)

The other point of interest was that the more affluent, well educated families were more likely to be open to females participating in the workforce.

Yes, our experience when we lived in Lodon, although the women we knew of worked.
DH's firm employed several women from Pakistan, although they had limited English they were good workers but their husbands would meet them from work and also would insist on collecting their wages on pay day.

In contrast our neighbours, Indian, Ugandan Asian, spoke excellent English, were career women and did not appear to be dominated by their husbands in any way, even though one had an arranged marriage.

You don't know where they were living, nor how affluent their families were. Nevertheless, they were immigrants and are still Muslims.

I think that we might get an idea at the party conference - and I agree about the final nail.

What imo the Tory party needs is a middle ground, intelligent non- grandstanding type of person.

They would give labour a run for their money then.

I agree, but not sure who would want to come forward at the moment.

I think Labour will form the next Government, then it will be the time for someone to step up and regroup the Conservatives.

I don't suppose there's any chance that Braverman will lose her seat at the next GE, is there?

For her to say, with her background, and looking at the current tory Cabinet, that 'multiculturalism isn't working', can only be described as 'gobsmacking'...

The answer to keeping people in their own countries is for the richest countries in the world to support those countries to develop viable economies, not to withdraw aid and pull up the drawbridge.

A very long time ago, my dissertation was on settlement of migrants in one particular town in the UK. I remember being surprised that some females were not learning English and were very much home based. There was no integration of females into mainstream English culture at that time and that traditions and culture were followed from the home country unsurprisingly. It seemed to me that male children were favoured over female ones in traditional families.

Yes, Brits go and live in Spain (for a ‘better way of life’) and many of them don’t integrate at all. They create Little Britain, expecting Spanish locals to speak English. We even refer to them as ex-pats because it sounds much more ‘acceptable’ than immigrants. I no longer use the term ex-pat - they are immigrants. Of course, anyone wishing to come to the UK for a better way of life is now demonised as an economic migrant! Isn’t Braverman fortunate that the UK was still a tolerant, welcoming country when her parents came here ‘for a better way of life’.

Turn the clock back in the uk. My Mum was one of ten children where the 2 boys were fed before the girls, received all the money from the company they ran and were sent to the ‘best’ schools. They were British people living in Yorkshire and their family had been there for hundreds of years. All a matter of perception and none of the females questioned how it was and certainly didn’t think it was ‘unfair’.
