Is this ironic or what? Suella's speech

As Suella Braverman rants about gender ideology and people being "disciplined for using the wrong words" a quietly spoken man in the audience says "It's trash." He's immediately surrounded and escorted from the conference by security and policemen. He has been a member of the Conservative party for 50 years and is the chair of the London Assembly. Seems you can be disciplined for using any words in the Tory Party.

The High Court has granted Liberty permission to take legal action against Suella Braverman for unlawfully introducing new anti-protest legislation which had been democratically rejected by Parliament.

Thank goodness for organisations like Liberty. We need someone to stand up for democracy.

Who have you reported??

Oh dear - not here. I posted a link to News report, which reported the event!

Oh I see!!

The heckler today wasn’t exactly a heckler. He went on the stage when nobody else was there to address the audience, but as there was no microphone nobody could hear him. He was gently escorted back to his seat - having made a bit of a plonker of himself to be honest. Here’s a filmed version of what happened.

GrannyGravy, yes to this and I think you’ll find several posts from labour/left learners who agree times have changed. The potential risks sadly mean what could be thought of as excessive caution to protect our politicians

Labour Party Conference today

Callistemon21 Sun 08-Oct-23 21:30:11

Even though it probably wasn't.

Very unfortunate!!

Lovetopaint037 Sun 08-Oct-23 21:24:27

It was not a good look for the Tories. It appeared to be the extreme right wing in action. Terrifying.

Fleurpepper Sun 08-Oct-23 21:09:02

Reported as totally out of hand here.

Anyone who is anyone at Conference would have known who he is very well, and no terrorist threat!

Callistemon21 Sun 08-Oct-23 21:02:09

totally out of proportion behaviour by security.

Security! Yes!
That's what we all thought 🙂
Even Suella Braverman thought he should be allowed back in.

Galaxy Sun 08-Oct-23 21:01:47

I agree.
I obviously disagree with him but he had every right to say that and we should be fighting for the right to speech of those we disagree with.

Surely it was a bit more than 'muttering'? If he only 'muttered' something, who'd have known apart from his close neighbours?

He says very quietly "There's no such thing as gender idology" Braverman doesn't hear. I doubt if many heard. Thought I posted this before you can see him being spoken to, then hauled out by security and a policeman.

Thank you for this Glorianny- NO HECKLING and totally out of proportion behaviour by security.

The heckler isn't just anyone, he is a well known member of the party the chair of the London Assembly- A possible bomber!!! Oh come on!

This indeed!

What is ridiculous? Are you able to tell a heckler from a murderer? Do you have some kind of sixth sense?

This man is a well known and long time supporter of the Conservative Party, and well known to many attending. That is what makes your statement ridiculous.

Yes, David Amess. Yesterday’s mild heckler can be today’s murderer. Remember also the Brighton bombing - these events provide an opportunity for those who would do harm and risks can’t be taken.

Don't be ridiculous!

Really?

Perhaps you've missed some of the news here over recent years.

Baggs there seem to be two officials standing near him, one is a woman. They speak to him first then security and a policeman arrive.

Baggs Thu 05-Oct-23 15:23:53

BTW, did SB actually mention "transgender people" as Boff is said to have claimed in a Guardian article I just read, or did she talk about "gender ideology"?

Asking because "tansgender people" ≠ "gender ideology".

Baggs Thu 05-Oct-23 14:37:44

Which, in my opinion, is disgraceful and mega-intolerant.

I don't seem to be able to play that, Glorianny. If he really spoke quietly I reckon someone reported him to the security toughs.
