Despite Mr Sunak's failure to protect against climate change, notably his failure to protect solar power in this country, let's remember that some Conservatives are jolly nice people who require only that their own decent neighbourhoods are protected against unsightly developments.

Despite Mr Sunak's failure to protect against climate change, notably his failure to protect solar power in this country, let's remember that some Conservatives are jolly nice people who require only that their own decent neighbourhoods are protected against unsightly developments.

We would need 29,690 km2 to home the panels.
In progress at the moment, just down the road from where I live, a huge solar farm plus battery storage unit, for when supply is is needed the most. When completed will have the capacity to produce 49.9MW, powering 27, 000 homes. This on top of the massive wind farm at Hornsea, biomass and landfill gas producing more electricity than anywhere else in the country. All my electricity is from green energy, is yours.
Did you know this country is also installing more solar panels than EU countries.2022. My brothers have a roof full of them, charging EV and free domestic use to. We may have a good way to go, but we'll get there. Oh and this is a majority Tory voting are.
Oh and sarcasm is the lowest form of wit,
Bye.

Many church roofs in staunchly Conservative areas of Norfolk are being fitted with solar panels. And of course we have offshore wind farms here which you can admire from the lovely north Norfolk beaches,

I am cross that Rishi has decided to backtrack on some of the climate goals.
Your OP is, however, incorrect, and the derision in its tone makes it hardly worthy of comment.
Other than to say that here in "nice" Devon on the edge of Dartmoor, we have a project going ahead for a solar park up to 42MW. The local state school is actually a partner in the venture in an attempt to take action on climate change and to reduce its energy bills. Oh, and this is a Tory voting constituency too.

Yet another goady tone thread, not worth further commenting on.

My late Mum used to love the windfarms off the N Norfolk coast. From upstairs she could see the distant turbines and she used to say in the middle of the night when they were twinkling she did not feel so alone. RIP Mum.

That’s nice Primrose. I don’t mind them at all.

Joseann,I live in a nice place too, albeit a suburb, but when halting climate change is the common goal, naturally I must accede to land use other than its visual amenity, as the alternative is too bad to contemplate.

Katie59 Mon 09-Oct-23 11:34:11

We don’t have wind turbines in this county, it’s against policy,
PP for solar farms are fought tooth and nail by the environmental loonies, definitely nimby land here. The other problem is the ransom that National Grid demand for a connection.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 09-Oct-23 12:09:35

I am on the South Downs and looking out to the English Channel can see what seems to be hundreds of wind turbines quietly going about their business of producing electricity.

Not a jot of pollution enters the air.

I love them.

Quokka Mon 09-Oct-23 16:05:59

I love them too WW2. They look majestic and peaceful.

Caleo Wed 11-Oct-23 15:25:05

The Conservative Party does not Prioritise measures to stop dangerous climate change. Scientists all say we are not doing enough and need a national policy to help us to do our bit.

That's lovely Primrose53

I love them. We have them offshore here. I think they're quite beautiful

We have no numerous wind turbines on our exposed windy moors. I love them

LizzieDrip Thu 12-Oct-23 08:30:24

Another admirer of wind turbines here. I like to think of them as modern windmills. There’s something strangely calming and reassuring about them. I live near a huge wind farm which I often drive past - love to see all the majestic turbines turning in unison.

ronib Thu 12-Oct-23 09:15:45

Well on wind turbines I am conflicted. Probably more cats kill birds than wind turbines do but still more needs to be done to protect our feathered friends.

Iam64 Thu 12-Oct-23 11:23:59

I am sure I have read that the carbon footprint of manufacturing and siting an onshore wind turbine will never be recouped by the amount of energy each one can produce during its estimated lifespan.

As siting an offshore wind turbine is far more complicated and expensive I imagine that is comparable.

(I will continue to look for the piece I read)

GrannyGravy13 Thu 12-Oct-23 11:29:30

I am not against them, I do hope that they can be manufactured and sited in a more ecological and carbon neutral way.

Iam64 all part of the birds’ literacy program?
I don’t think so …..

I wonder if Don Quixote will come along soon!

I don't understand why they don't put solar panels on the acres of roofs on industrial sites, ugly hypermarkets and factories. It may be a bit more difficult for retro fitting, but should be mandatory on new ones. Surely they could give an incentive to owners of these buildings to install them.

I am very pro solar and wind power, but can understand why people don't like having panels on fields.

Joseann Thu 12-Oct-23 14:48:39

Yes, I'm sure I remember hearing that solar panels are compulsory in all car parks in France with over 100 spaces.

Caleo Fri 13-Oct-23 11:37:41

Chough Dancer, I agree solar panels covering fields are not pretty. I think my attitude is similar to yours: solar panels on many fields may be the lesser evil compared with the climate going to pot.

To Grans who objected to my initial sarcasm: I think when adults are having a serious discussion present company is excepted so that we may be objective.

Caleo Fri 13-Oct-23 11:40:21

LizzieDrip, I applaud your upbeat tone!
