Hamas has attacked Israel

It’s being reported that Hamas has launched 400 plus rockets into Israel along with its men shooting Israeli civilians in the streets.

Israel has retaliated with extreme force, are we heading for yet another all out war in the Middle East?

I was scrolling X (Twitter) and found the most appalling video posted by Hamas showing a dead Israeli women, stripped naked and being driven around whilst her body is being abused.

I do not think I can ever remove those images from my brain, yet again women being abused/defiled by men as an act of war.

Exactly GG13, that's a question I've asked on here, but got no replies. As you say, all these weapons, training for para gliding, fuel for motor bikes and so on, but the poor people who will be on the receiving end of retribution? Nothing. Theyve already run out of fuel!! It would appear that no stockpiling or preparation for what was undoubtedly coming took place! What appalling people Hamas are.

Jaberwok Thu 12-Oct-23 08:25:54

All the more reason to open up our own oil and gas fields! This country has to look after itself and not rely on others all the time.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 12-Oct-23 08:23:57

I have been pondering, Hamas managed to get 1,000’s of rockets, drones, powered gliders along with ammunition and hand held weapons into Gaza.

Why didn’t they also get food, medicines, medical supplies, fuel and water?

I have come to the conclusion that Hamas do not give a flying fig for the citizens of Gaza, they are intent on causing death, destruction and annihilation to the citizens of Israel…

Egypt has closed its border with Gaza, maybe they do not want to take the chance of Hamas terrorists entering their Country.

Jaberwok Thu 12-Oct-23 08:22:21

As these terrorists have clearly spent enormous time, trouble and money preparing for this attack which was directed not at a military base, but at helpless civilians, particularly families and young people, I don't really think that the Israeli government would have deliberately encouraged such an awful event. Truth to tell Israel was caught on the hop and foolishly disregarded any warnings, or perhaps warnings were intercepted? Who knows.

Urmstongran Thu 12-Oct-23 08:19:12

If Arab oil becomes less available, the West will be more than ever at the mercy of Russian oil and gas supplies.

Iam64 Thu 12-Oct-23 08:04:41

Fleurpepper - you seem to believe the Israeli government knew the attack by Hamas was coming. It ignored the warnings , so war and destruction could follow.
Do you also believe the USA and the Israeli’s/the Jews were responsible for 9/11 - or other conspiracy theories

Overnight reports of threats to the British Jewish communities are increasing.

Do neither side never think what God would think, just the opposite of what's happening.

Katie59 Thu 12-Oct-23 07:33:45

I would be surprised if there is a full scale invasion of Gaza the casualty rate for Israel will be too high, more likely they will blockade and bring Gaza to its knees. That will force the moderates to get rid of Hamas and bring in a proper relationship with the rest of Israel.

This episode has proved that Gaza cannot trusted to run itself so there will need to be some form of Israeli oversight in future. In the meantime Gaza will suffer a great deal.

^its just horrendous but their people in Gaza are just collateral to Hamas^
And now thankfully people are waking up to the fact.

Not to the anti-Semites.

We can weep for the people of both Israel and of Gaza.

These terrorists do not care.

Sadly, this is what happens to much of international aid and charitable donations.

Maybee
Should humanitarian aid never be given to deprived countries because it might be used by terrorist organisations?
I don't know, it is a dilemma. We send charitable donations, aid, because we want to help the people who are suffering, then it ends up in the hands of terrorists, corrupt officials, warmongerers.

Callistemon21 Wed 11-Oct-23 20:11:14

What sort of people behave like this to their own citizens? God help those captives. Hamas are totally to blame for this particularly vicious war and their leaders are allegedly sitting comfortably, out of harms way in Qatar brave hero's that they are

Well said 👍

Vintagewhine - who could mediate? I wish I could think of an individual or group that could get these two sides to seriously find a way to coexist

Goodness knows but I don't think Hamas is open to negotiation nor the current Israeli govt. Netanyahu is trying to form a coalition govt in preparation for a full scale invasion of Gaza, I think. The cynical part of me thinks that Netanyahu already wanted a reason to invade and was complicit in allowing Hamas to commit these atrocities. Nothing like war to prop up a shaky govt.

It is almost impossible to even begin to consider. Ad yet, more and more- I think you are spot on on this.

Looks as if you could be correct in your thinking!

If Qatar is supporting Hamas the the airline needs banning today!

Fleurpepper Wed 11-Oct-23 18:19:58

Huge question marks here. Why? From BBC News.

Israel was warned by Egypt of potential violence three days before Hamas' deadly cross-border raid, a US congressional panel chairman has said.

House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee head Michael McCaul told reporters of the alleged warning.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu described the reports as "absolutely false".

Israeli intelligence services are under scrutiny for their failure to prevent the deadliest attack by Palestinian militants in Israel's 75-year history.'

the result will be the total and final destruction of Gaza and the Palestinians- something Netanyahu and his ilk have wanted for a very long time.

Bagpuss123 Wed 11-Oct-23 17:51:14

Looks like they’re waking up to the realities of where the donations are going! . Naive was just being polite.
The world is beginning to realise just how evil this extremist regime can be.
Dangerous to assume that just because the West is liberal and civilised a terrorist organisation like Hamas will use donations for the benefit of its people. Unbelievably gullible.
Big mistake!

So should the people in Gaza have been deprived of water? Should humanitarian aid never be given to deprived countries because it might be used by terrorist organisations?

In a word Yes.

Send in aid agencies to provide what is needed, not just hand over money with no guarantees of how and by whom it will be used.

This should apply to any Country by the way, far too much aid finds its way into corrupt politicians pockets.

Well meaning but naive?

“JOE BARNESBrussels Correspondent
THE European Union helped to build more than 30 miles of water pipelines for Palestinians despite Hamas terrorists telling of their ability to make home-made rockets from the pipes.

Brussels has poured almost €100 million (£86.3 million) into the projects in territories controlled by the Islamist group over the past decade, an analysis by The Daily Telegraph of the bloc’s foreign aid found. The revelation comes amid a mounting international row over future handouts to Gaza amid fears humanitarian donations could fall into the hands of Hamas.

EU foreign ministers last night held emergency talks over aid worth €295 million a year to Palestine after the European Commission announced that the donations had been placed under review in response to attacks on Israel.”

Louella12 Wed 11-Oct-23 17:14:07

Netanyahu has announced an emergency 3 member unity government.

I'm not sure that this is for any reason other than trying to overcome this horrendous attack from Hamas

Good news for the majority of people in Israel.

A unity government is being formed. Let us hope that the existing security minister looses his post.

I think a statement is being made tonight.

This is from an article in Mondays Times. Netanyahu will now not be held responsible for the wasps that Israel’s security has been breached… “One option Netanyahu is already exploring is inviting the former prime minister Yair Lapid and former defence minister Benny Ganz, leaders of the two main opposition parties, to join an emergency cabinet. They are open to the idea of a unity government but want assurances that the role of Netanyahu’s far-right coalition partners would be minimal in the new cabinet.
“They will make a mistake if they join,” one sceptical opposition member said. “Netanyahu won’t listen to them — he doesn’t listen to anyone. But he will use them to spread the blame around.” What a horrible, horrible mess this all is. sad

Jaberwok Wed 11-Oct-23 16:43:11

Totally agree with you Bagpuss123. The only people responsible for the plight of the Palestinians in Gaza at this moment in time are Hamas. If they cared one jot about the civilians under their rule they would at least have made SOME provision for their safety and well being knowing as they clearly do that their terrorist attack would reap a terrible harvest. Kidnapping children, murdering Grannies, beheading babies, mowing down young people, burning people to death in their homes is not going to go down too well with any civilised government. What did people including Hamas think Israel was going to do? wring their hands, look to God? 'Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do'??!! Realistically? I don't think so! Hamas have spent months and much money planning this attack, but it would seem, no money, or time on providing additional supplies, bomb shelters or any kind of defence for these poor people. No stockpiling of any kind. What sort of people behave like this to their own citizens? God help those captives. Hamas are totally to blame for this particularly vicious war and their leaders are allegedly sitting comfortably, out of harms way in Qatar brave hero's that they are.
