Hamas has attacked Israel

As if Lebanon didn't have enough troubles of its own already now Hezbollah have decided to join in too. Rockets are going over the border into Northern Israel.

Hamas have betrayed the Palestinians in Gaza. they must have known that the attack on Israel would result in drastic repercussions but seem to have made no provision at all to have water and food for the population. The Hamas leaders aren't even in Gaza - last seen somewhere in Qatar I believe.

It's very bleak.

Yes they are the same! the barbarity of ISIS took us right back to Medieval times. We want to think that we are living in a far more enlightened age. Sadly the dark side of human nature is still very dark and still very present. It's beyond me, whatever side, those who believe in a God, can think that their almighty would ever be with them when they treat their fellow human being with such cruelty.

Hamas and ISIS are the same in all but name.

Much the same aren’t they? They go in for barbaric killings, rape, burnings and beheadings.Shooting people isn’t enough for them.

I had left this discussion as I didn’t like the way it was going, but glad to see the many supportive posts to Israel.
Happy about the positive messages from Starmer and Sunak too and the lit up Israeli flag on number ten and blue and white lights on Parliament.
Noticeably, the Scottish government are refusing to do this, about what can be expected of them!
The sooner people in Scotland vote for Labour the better.

We have already had pro Palestinian marches here in Australia and tonight there is a pro Israel one. Division and hatred already.

If I had any say in the matter and was an Israeli politician, I would make urgent arrangements for Palestinian children badly injured to be cared for in Israeli hospitals. Of course they may not accept the offer, but it would stand as long as necessary. There is no war with innocents.

Iran is not going to start a war with Israel, sponsoring other rebel groups is their intent, China is funding it, the west is standing by and watching.

I don't think the Israeli government are acting in anyone's best interests in razing Gaza to the ground, why aren't they trying to negotiate on behalf of their hostages. That whole adage of "an eye for an eye" is too vengeful under such circumstances, the ordinary people of Gaza and the fate of their own hostages needs to be considered.

I am thoroughly disgusted by the medics within the NHS who have voiced their opinions that this attack on innocent civilians is justified, the murder of babies really! really! what kind of person can contemplate that, maybe saving lives isn't their vocation

I think it’s referred to as open air prison because the people inside have no freedom of movement without permission from Israel or Egypt who have now closed their gate due to bombing from Israel and fear of reprisals presumably,
Their access to anywhere is limited including the sea. They can only fish close to shore and a recent programme by Simon reeve showed him on a fishing boat which after a day caught no fish. Drones overhead watch them all the time and will shoot at any boat which goes out further than allowed, he risks it sometimes just because he needs to feed his families and others as they have to rely on aid to provide 80% of their needs.
As far as I know Palestinians have no citizenship. So are refugees in their own land.
I have no connection to anywhere or anyone in the Middle East but have followed the situation from afar for over 30 years. Most people wherever they are from are good people who just want peace and freedom to live their lives and I know there are many organisations and individuals in Israel who have friendly links with Palestinians and can only hope that one day good will and sense will prevail.

What did Hamas expect from a foolhardy action killing civilians at a festival and in a kibbutz. Gaza will now be destroyed for the Palestinans; Isreal will wipe it out and eventually move in. Cause and Effect, all the time.

I don’t like the way things are going - we are evacuating our nationals now. I feel really nervous about this, worse than the Ukrainian situation to my mind. We will no doubt all get dragged into it it and it is so dreadful for those poor innocent people living there ( both sides ) .

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant doubled down and said: 'Hamas wanted a change and it will get one. What was in Gaza will no longer be'.

The media always refer to Gaza as a refugee camp it’s not sustainable on this own, any other refugee camp would have been depopulated decades ago. The population could be resettled in other Arab countries or even the West Bank but nobody wants them, is there no humanity in the Arab world?.

Because Hamas is in conflict with another Palestinian group, Fatah.
Sadly, Hamas cares not for the Palestinian people, they are driven by hatred of Israel and their aim is to eradicate the State of Israel.

Absolutely spot on Candelle the world needs to educate itself and separate facts from propaganda.
Fancythat, if our discussion here helps us understand by sharing reliable sources then it’s not wasted and I hope that uniformed biases can be challenged as they have been on this thread.
There needs to be a more balanced discussion in the media about the situation. Hopefully this will happen now.
It’s just heartbreaking that these horrific events had to happen before people really look at the facts and maybe understand that Israel is tiny (about the size of Wales) and needs all the support it can get.

If I were a Palestinian, I most certainly wouldn't want to live in Iran. Iran isn't even an Arab country and people speak a different language for a start.

No but you know perfectly well it is a Muslim country and it is funding aggressive expansion of Islam in many parts. Your argument is nonsense because ask a Palestinian if they would like to come to Europe they would say yes please.

No, it's nonsense. No Palestinian would want to live in a country with a different language, religion, ethnicity and history, which represses its own citizens. Palestinians are a different nationality, whose families have lived in the country where they now live for generations.

If Palestinians were given a choice they would want to stay in their own country, but might choose the UK because we don't repress our people the way Iran does.

Well said Franbern I do not support the actions of Hamas in any way ,I also do not support the treatment of the Palestinian people since the inception of the Israeli state .Its has been decades of abuse ,largely ignored by the world .I march with Jews in a Solidarity for Palestinian group .I am not anti semitic I am ANTI the Israeli STATE goverment with appears to get more fascist year on year .There are Palestinian schools ,hospitals bombed often there are Palestinian youths shot dead on the streets atrocities committed against old people and young mothers .It gets NO COVERAGE form the media .These people are expected to sit down and shut up and accept the vile treatment with no recourse to justice .
