The accounts make interesting reading - particularly the I & E account on page 13 and the support costs of £465,090 on page 19. This is further broken down into different categories on page 20.

During the 18 month period covered by these accounts the income received was £402,854 of which £190, 899 was the cost of 2 employees for fundraising. On top of that management fees were £160,812.

It's an easy read so do have a look.

The point is he didn't set out to raise a massive amount of money. I suspect he was as surprised as everyone else that the sum was so massive.

It is always difficult - although IMHO asking for £18k for an appearance is quite ridiculous, and no wonder people are angry.

I think people like local charities becasue they think they can see where the money goes (and indeed that may be why the Moore-Ingrams were reported). But I agree it isn't always the case. And I have to say that there are a couple local to me that I think look like vanity projects.

Of course death threats are criminal.

Yes it is

Captain Tom raised about £39 million to go towards NHS staff and charities; it was not intended that the money should go towards propping up the NHS.

The money from his books was in a separate fund.

What his daughter has done is foolish, if it was not specified where the revenue from the books was to go, but she and her children do not deserve death threats.

People who makes those kinds of threats are worse.

I think I read that there is a much needed garden for patients and staff to rest and relax in at a hospital in Bedfordshire that was funded from money raised by Captain Tom.

The money was never intended for ‘the NHS’. It was for NHS Charities Together, which was set up to support staff, patients, aand communities, so that’s where the money he raised went.

I think (and would be interested if anyone knows otherwise) that the Charity Commission got on to her quite quickly.

Unfortunately this happens so often with what might be called "private" charities. Donors often prefer to give to a small local charity rather than the large ones such as Oxfam and Save the Children etc in the mistaken belief that the overheads are excessive, which they are not.

In 2022 SCF raised £294 million. Expenditure on charitable works was £251 million and fundraising costs was £31million.
If my calculator got it right the later was 10.54% of the total raised.

I'm surprised they've done this interview really . Piers Morgan won't have done this for their benefit.

So I think the OP was right.

She also was paid 18 grand to do a talk but only gave the charity 2 grand.

Her behaviour hasn't been great. But she certainly doesn't deserve death threats.

I think that she is saying that the £800k was from the sale of his books and that he'd wanted them to have that money. Her OH is saying that she's been ill. (Saw a preview this morning)

This has been rumbling around for a while, a very greedy woman.

Poor man, I always felt he was being exploited.

He interviews some interesting people in the news on Piers Morgan Uncensored so I record it anyway. That way I don't miss any of them.

She comes across as a bit grubby grabby and has tarnished his considerable efforts somewhat.
