For some time now my daughter has been building a new computer program which they hope will speed up the system.
Bereavement wipes out everything
A wise move? Or will he come to regret it?

Apologies if this has been mentioned but, am I right in thinking that, if someone who has been sent to Rwanda is given settled status, they still have to remain in Rwanda, they can’t have settled status in the UK? I have a friend who works with people in a local detention centre and the stories she tells of how some of those young men came to be here are heartbreaking.
A good move. Someone with gravitas who is already well known on world stage.

I'm interested to see David Cameron has returned. He was hardly the best leader but it appears he's here to save the Conservatives. I don't hold out much hope for them. Why they just don't admit defeat, call an election and go to grass for a few years
It’s a bit like Bobby Ewing emerging from the shower in Dallas isn’t it ? It was all a dream and now he’s back to save the day. The middle England die hard Tories will love it, as will brexiteers. Just hope enough people see it for what it is.

Can a non member of parliament take up a ministers post?
I’m confused!
Yes, he’s a peer.
It looks to me as if Sunak, the unelected PM, has realised he cannot win without centre or at least centre-right votes.
The question is, can he win with them? And will they be moved to vote for them by an ex PM going to the Lords in order to be brought back into government.
It seems that the far right of the party are meeting this afternoon, and I assume they will decide whether first they will launch a Braverman leadership bid and if they intend to make life difficult.
However there is the assumption that the traditional conservative MP will be sufficient in numbers to see them off.
I’m sure he’s gambling voters going to reform against the blue wall who are draining away.

I assume part of the reason Sunak has appointed Cameron is because Cameron can never be his rival for Tory party leadership.
We seem to have a leave-remain split at the top of the government again, and since so many Brexit related issues are still to be resolved, that seems either very statesmanlike (not a characteristic I associate with Sunak) or a sign that Sunak recognises the current hardline approach is failing.
Related to that, I wonder if we are seeing Sunak recognising that the culture war nonsense is not winning over the wider electorate, and preparing to step away from it ahead of an election.
David Cameron new foreign secretary
Do you mean all mouth and no trousers? Or fur coat and no knickers?
We were told that Brexit would give us control of our borders, yet immigration has increased, and instead of people coming here to fill much needed vacancies, we have people we do not allow to work and are a drain on resources. None of SB's proposals would put a dent in those numbers. We were offered to build a processing centre in France and turned it down. SB is all mouth and no knickers. No - forget that mental image.

An unelected Prime Minister and now an unelected Foreign Secretary, perhaps Sunak thinks its a smart move, but I don't think the voters will, but what do I know 🤔 I'm finished with the Conservatives I'm voting Reform at the next general election.
I am assuming that the PM thinks he has made a smart move in appointing Cameron because the new Foreign Secretary cannot be scrutinised by our elected representatives. Hopefully, you are correct and the electorate won’t agree. It seems to be a very odd appointment though.
Sorry, MaizieD, so I have 💐. It occurred to me when I was out that I must have misinterpreted you and when I came back, saw your reply. I should have known that you are not one to be on that side! I'll try and pay more attention before posting!
No worry, Wheniwasyourage
I was just a bit startled 😂

I agree with Kandinsky. I hope Braverman is the next leader of the Tories, since I think the consequence of that will be she’ll be leader of the opposition for a very long time.
Brilliant!

The Rwanda policy was purely performative. Is that why Italy has just signed a deal with Albania to build asylum processing centres there? Or why France is discussing building immigration centres in key transit countries, such as Niger, Libya, and Chad? Or why Austria also wants to have an immigration application centre in Rwanda? Are they all purely performative or simply countries who feel that they cannot continue absorbing the huge influx of mass migration?
Denmark are also looking at Rwanda.

Her attitudes are not very British. Not much tolerance and understanding, what has the place come to that people like that hold power?
Reading some of the responses on here I fear that your idea of what is 'British' isn't a universal quality. 😟
So it's all our fault for not being tolerant and understanding of the actions of this apparently deranged woman, is it, MaizieD?
I think you've put me on the wrong side.

The centres in Albania will not be like the centres in Rwanda. They will be for people en route to Italy, not those who make it to shore. People will be able to apply for asylum. Albania won't be a final destination, as Rwanda would be.

Why yes? I said she was unelectable.
I don’t for one nano-second believe the right-wing of the Tory party and their ilk are representative of the wider electorate.
There are currently 350 Conservative MPs. Not one of them fit to be Foreign Secretary ? Nothing shows the state of our current government as clearly as this. 350 elected MPs incapable of doing the job. Clearly Sunak realises that they are a useless bunch and then he brings back the man who gave us austerity and Brexit. We can see what those policies have done for the country. Is there one thing that the Conservatives have done successfully over the last 13 years? What is their legacy ?

Yes if Suella is the next Tory leader I would vote for them but I can't see it happening. I think the next leader will be Cameron.
