A wise move? Or will he come to regret it?

The way things are going, sceptic that I am, I think I might vote for Keir Starmer after all😂

Can a non member of parliament take up a ministers post?

I’m confused!

I was thinking that too.
I have a feeling that Blair had someone in cabinet who wasn’t an MP. If I’m remembering correctly, then yes, a non MP can take up a cabinet position, but I’m not sure whether I’m right.

Health Minister and Schools Ministers both quit.
Rearranging the deckchairs day.
Sunak is a disaster.

I heard a rumour that it will be Gove.

Her attitudes are not very British. Not much tolerance and understanding, what has the place come to that people like that hold power?

Reading some of the responses on here I fear that your idea of what is 'British' isn't a universal quality. 😟

So it's all our fault for not being tolerant and understanding of the actions of this apparently deranged woman, is it, MaizieD?

Absolutely the right decision and IMO the only one. No one should condone the actions of this woman as Home Secretary. She deliberately and publicly caused more division by referring to the Palestinian march as a "Hate" march and publicly critised the police. No Home Secretary has ever behaved like this. She may believe she speaks for the silent majority but even if she does (and I doubt it) in her position she should have kept her mouth shut and done the job she was being paid to do, not use it to try to further her own ambitions.

Granniesunite Mon 13-Nov-23 09:03:53

Her reckless comments and total disregard for the police officers on the front line of a difficult situation was to say the least childish and petty.

She showed her true colours. A petty and childish individual with no thought for anyone else’s safety just but her own ambition. She leaves a legacy of hatred and mistrust.

She really should be ashamed.

Remember when we thought nobody could be as bad as Priti Patel, and then we got Suella Braverman? I shudder to think who we'll get next.

Loyalty works both ways, eazybee, and not even the most dedicated right wing Tory could accuse SB of being loyal to her Prime Minister!

BlueBelle Mon 13-Nov-23 08:58:16

My Goodness Kadinsky is that a joke ! I do hope it is she is a vile woman without an ounce of compassion in her bones

westendgirl Mon 13-Nov-23 08:56:33

I don't think it's hasty at all . I would think that he has had it at the back of his mind after every time she opened her mouth.
Indeed according to news he has been under great pressure.
Don't forget Braverman was sacked previously.

Smileless2012 Mon 13-Nov-23 08:56:14

The right decision IMO but he was always going to be damned if he did and damned if he didn't. Her supporters wont be happy and if he hadn't sacked her, he'd have been seen as weak.

spottybook Mon 13-Nov-23 08:56:08

Not a good move. Rishi is a wet rag with no backbone.

Kandinsky Mon 13-Nov-23 08:55:14

Hopefully she’ll come back as leader.

eazybee Mon 13-Nov-23 08:54:21

A big mistake, but then, Sunak has no idea of the concept of loyalty, having fomented dissent in Downing Street for the past two years for his own advantage, and now proving daily how inadequate he is.

Grannynannywanny Mon 13-Nov-23 08:53:34

Snap Urmstongran ! We started out threads at the same time. I’ll ask for mine to be removed to avoid confusion.

BlueBelle Mon 13-Nov-23 08:52:58

She’s gone at last thankful for small mercies
Let’s hope her miserable bile and division of the country dies with her lost position
