Glenys Kinnock passed away peacefully overnight. She was an inspirational women who campaigned against poverty and women's rights tirelessly.
I thought looked like a lady you would get on with and always had a lovely smile. She has been battling Alzheimer's since 2017.

So very sad for the family. I expect she had a lot of love and care.
She had a great life and what appeared a happy marriage of 2 minds.
I hope her last few years were not awful for her. It is a disease everyone dreads and is so random.

None of those measures will prevent Alzheimer’s but they may reduce the chances of it developing. In any case they are good things in themselves, so people should aim for them ‘just because’, and if they have a protective effect, all the better.

GK’s Alzheimer. Am I the only one that now seriously questions the advice on preventative measures such as: high level of education and intelligence, good extensive social networks, engagement with current events, sense of purpose, supportive loving family and so on. Sadly did not appear to have worked this time. Makes one lose faith with all the usually highly advocated measures.

A lovely lady and a politician who differs so much from the I'm a Celeb variety of today.

Mett Glenys several times, she was indeed a lovely lady

Metra

I was at uni with Glenys and Neil Kinnock. Glenys and I studied the same subjects in the first year but I wasn't in their set. She was always friendly and very popular with everyone. She and Neil's political views sometimes differed but she was always supportive whilst pursuing her own path. Alzheimer's is such a cruel disease which seems to strike indiscriminately. We were the same age and my memory isn't what it was.....

That's lovely, their son Stephen is our MP now and I think doing a fantastic job.

She was a very decent person and a woman to look up to. Sad she had dementia but we were lucky to have her in our lives and I send condolences to her family . May she rest in peace

welbeck Tue 05-Dec-23 11:49:29

gosh, so they were together all that time, that's rare now, esp in public life.
did anyone else meet her in real life, what was she like?
sorry to hear of her passing.
condolences to the family.

Oh that’s sad, more that she suffered from the awful illness prior to death. It’s a huge dread of mine. She was an example to women in my opinion. Both doing her own thing and supporting her husband. Rest in Peace.

So awful that such a vibrant lady (and indeed anyone) should be struck down by a condition that is no more and no less than a living death. So very sad.

R.I.P. what a terrible thing to happen..it seems to be intelligent people who take altzheimers/dementia...not always but quite a large percentage..such a terrible dissease...i remember crying for months before my dm passed away. THE LONG GOODBYE..X😰

I was sorry to hear this and hadn't realised she had Alzheimer's, so unfair.

I remember when she came to present certificates at school, her speech was inspiring, especially for the girls.

RIP Glenys

I suddenly remembered last night that I sat a row behind them on a flight from Paris CDG, 1990s. They looked smart, but very relaxed.

Very sad news. I always admired her, if Labour had won that election, she’d have been a good support and role model.

Georgesgran Mon 04-Dec-23 07:52:53

She’d been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2017 and I’d seen a few interviews given by her husband on the progress of that awful illness.
I think they were a strong couple. RIP

Doodledog Sun 03-Dec-23 23:40:15

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, and that she’d been ill. I was very disappointed when NK lost the election and got the impression that Glenys would have been very supportive. RIP.

I'm sorry to hear this. She seemed a lovely lady and a champion of women's rights. I had great respect for her. R.I.P.

A true fighter for justice. A life well lived.
