That’s sad, no one seems to be interested or have an opinion on this. Oh well.

Well Dubai is the host, they have the oil and they have the money.

Many nations including the UK are borrowing a great deal to meet climate targets, the oil producing countries are going to supply much of that cash. Oil price is also in their hands, I fear we are all going to be greatly indebted to big oil.

To me Al Jaber seemed a sinister character who knew he had a very strong hand in negotiations and was going to use the power. Oil producers are very prominent sponsoring sports and the media, so we can expect more influence.

On BBC news this morning, I heard Dr Sultan speaking in reply to a question about this. He doesn't come across as sinister but defended himself by explaining that science has always informed his career and will continue to do so. It is worth listening to what he has to say if it can be accessed on catch up.

The problem of COP is that ALL the nations have to agree the draft. The discussion is likely to overrun and be resolved at the last minute but if some holdout (because it's not strong enough or not weak enough) then there won't be an agreement. My guess is there will be some last minute horse trading but the outcome will be automatically condemned by the climate activists.

The trouble is that the vested interests are far too powerful and their voices carry a lot more weight than anyone else's. I find the whole thing terribly disappointing and frustrating and all I can do is my own little bit while our grandchildren will have to live with the awful consequences of global inaction.
