I see from the DT that yet another Tory MP is under investigation.

I’ve just been browsing the most recent polls and whilst I don’t for one minute believe that Labour will get a 270 majority as predicted, it does seem a huge mountain for the Tories to climb.
They are clearly hanging on and on in the hope things will start to improve, but every new initiative just seems to make it worse.
What on earth do Tory supporters think will save them from a wipe out?

I reckon that if Labour do win the election, there will be a massive spike in optimism, then a huge and horrible dawning reality at what the Tories have actually done to our country and the enormous hill we have to climb just to get us back to normality.
It will be much easier if the future is seen to be fair even though sacrifices are made, increasing taxation on the wealthy and increased minimum wage, will make a great many more optimistic for the future

And the last thing the UK need in my view is a mixed ragbag of Labour Lib Dems Greens SNP running the country.
Hoping for a big majority for Labour, then they can govern on their own.
I hope for a Labour majority too and hope for a much fairer deal for the less fortunate, but it doesn’t change the problems we have. Maybe this time next year we can begin to be optimistic.

What Democracy? The very last thing the UK needs is the dreadful, extreme right wing (yes, xenophobic) Reform Party, and the likes of Tice and Farage, and co
.
I'm late to the party but please put me down for the Caribbean island. I'll bring the rum.
The Reform Party are the only party that can save us from global control. They are not at all xenophobic and have some good policies, we need common sense back and to get rid of all the woke rubbish and net zero burdening everyone. We need a party like Reform who will put British citezens first. One size does not fit all. Our history is being eroded and our way of life. Ben Habib of The Reform Party talks a lot of sense. Our democracy is hanging by a thread. We need to urgently leave the WHO and ECHR and keep our Sovereinty. We are sleep walking into global control. I really fear for our Grandchildren's future in this country the way it is going! I shall certainly be voting for the Reform Party. That is my view.

The Tories need at least 10 years in the wilderness to rethink and I think the electorate will give it to them.
Depends on how well Labour do when they are in Government.
If no noticeable improvements or beneficial changes are made, the Conservatives could be elected after one term of Labour.
We all know it will be very hard for Labour, or anyone else, or a coalition. Because the Tories have destroyed the economy, put the country in massive debts which are massively expensive to repay due to high interests and very low Sterling values. But we will also know why, and who is 100% guilty of sucking the country dry and filling their own pockets. A la Mone and co.
Or democratic like
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Benin, Chile, Costa Rica, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and dozens more countries with effective governments.
I don’t know why so many people think the UK could only ever do things badly.

What will save the Tory party?
Nothing, I hope.Surely, we need a strong opposition regardless of whoever wins the next election?
Why this obsession in the UK with 'opposition'- see saw politics, one extreme to another. So destructive always. Why not a Government with more cooperation and consensus? I would love to see a coalition of Labour, Lib Dems and Greens.
As for the Tories, they are doomed and will not be in any position to 'oppose' effectively at all. And they have to get rid of the massively extreme faction that is the ERG, which has led the country in a disastrous Brexit, and the destruction of the 'One Nation' Conservative Party. We have many friends and relatives who have always been Conservatives- but no longer. Disgusted by the antics of the last decade. All intend to abstain of vote Lib Dem. NONE, thank goodness, intend to vote the Extreme, inhumane and ridiculous Right.
Democratic just like Israel, more likely an unholy alliance, PR is not a panacea, if there is no majority the extremists exact their price.

We need electoral reform. Proportional Representation.
The Labour party could split into left, far left, very far left and centre left parties.
The Tory Party could split into their "five families"
There could be a new far far right party to out flank UKIP (or whatever they ca;ll themselves now)
The Liberal Democrats and the Greens would get votes from all of those who supported them but had reluctantly voted either Laboiur or Tory -(whichever they considered the lesser of two evils) because they did not want to "waste their vote"
There would be no safe seats.
Everyone would have the same power to affect the result.
We would almost certainly end up with a coalition government, but it would one be backed by a majority, not a minority , of those who voted.
Would that not be far more democratic?
Completely agree Varian especially with regard to Lib Dems and Green Party

On the latest The Rest is Politics Alastair Campbell recounts a conversation he had with Allan Clarke in which the latter said to him 'you'll be in power for at least ten years because we f*****g hate each other more than we hate you'. Sounds, hopefully, as true now as it did back then!

Does anyone know why the Liberal Democrats are so very quiet these days? It’s almost as if they have gone away.
What I do know is that the Lib Dem’s are working very hard in their target constituencies, I’m in one and they are buzzing around like busy bees. I suspect their campaign will be very focussed on winnable seats.

Nah. I prefer the Caribbean island... 😂
So would I, but they might not have us in the Caribbean.
I'll play my 'Jamaican heritage' card 😁
I can’t stomach the way that she keeps saying she speaks for the people of this country. She doesn’t speak for me.
