Undoubtedly he has reached the age for retiring. But he should be going with acknowledgement of the many years service he has given the party. Instead he has been suspended from the LP for 15 months and has had no results. Surely any enquiry should have a time limit. His lawyers have advised him that the process has become so complicated it is inadvisable to carry on. I would imagine there is a financial cost as well.
Because the issue has not been resolved he will not be able to join the party as an ordinary member. It is a shabby way to treat someone with 40 years service to the party

Has he fallen on his sword? If there was nothing to fear and he’d done nothing wrong why not stay and fight his corner?Maybe he’s happier retiring.

Another thinly veiled attempt to have a go Glorianny. I’m not going to argue with you about this case, there are as many holes in what he has said about his resignation as there are in Granny’s net curtains, and as you already know there’s an independent complaints process in the Labour Party now.

I’m glad he’s done the decent thing.

He was under investigation re allegations made 25 years ago, was he not forced to ‘come out’ 25 years ago ?

I am guessing he was on the left of the party.

Nick Brown MP who has served as the Labour chief whip under several Labour leaders and has been an active MP since 1983 as been under investigation for an unknown complaint since last September has now said he will not stand at the next election. He says the complaints process is a "complete farce" and akin to a "mismanaged golf club". What is going on? And how did the LP reach such a stage, where it seems more like a Star Chamber than a democratic party
