So in the last week Prince Harry has been ordered to pay court costs of £50,000 and within a few days, been awarded damages of around £130,000.
Interesting times indeed.

CoolCoco Sun 17-Dec-23 16:46:48

Some people obviously have been influenced by the scurrilous press whose main aim is to sell papers, printing sensationalised stories. Harry = bad whatever he does seems to be the belief of many.

Casdon Sun 17-Dec-23 16:47:18

Yes and no eazybee. This is a pretty unbiased account of the implications for Mirror Group from Reuters.
www.reuters.com/world/uk/daily-mirror-says-prince-harry-verdict-will-limit-its-phone-hacking-bill-2023-12-15/
It’s not just about Harry, by any means. The implications for the other tabloid press who are also accused of phone hacking are significant, this is in a sense a pathfinder claim.

Anniebach

Criticism of a liar who tells the world his brother has been circumcised is ‘bashing him’

It is when the thread is about the security libel case and phone hacking Anniebach, it may not be on a thread which is about Harry personally.

Anniebach Sun 17-Dec-23 17:06:24

Yes, but there has been praised for Harry on this thread, you didn’t criticise that

Iam64 Sun 17-Dec-23 17:11:10

Harry bashing is something many seem to get pleasure from. Whether he’s a ‘nice person’ or not is irrelevant. He was hacked and vilified in the mirror/mail etc. they seemed determined to polarise him as bad son with William as good son. That continued with their wives. Whatever people believe, this is a family in distress. Estrangement hurts everyone involved

Anniebach Sun 17-Dec-23 17:14:38

Did William not receive a large sum for the same actions as Harry ?

Casdon Sun 17-Dec-23 17:26:20

I’m not pro Harry Anniebach, I just think talking about his personal behaviour is not relevant on a thread that is about these court cases, that’s all.

Who was this written about?
the Prince and the Princess complain loudly about the intrusive nature of the press, although it quickly becomes clear that both of them and their friends have further fanned the flames of controversy by leaking information to reporters, including the authors of these two books. Indeed, some of the most embarrassing material in "The Prince of Wales" comes from the Prince himself. One of his diary entries, made during a tour of duty in the Navy, reads as follows: "I tried to tickle a belly-dancer last night at a hotel where we were having dinner! She came up to me and wobbled everything at me and so I ran my fingers up her tummy (rather hot and sticky!) and she hit me on the head with her castanets! I think she rather liked it . . .!"
It wasn't Harry.
It was his mummy and daddy.
So let's be clear he was born into a family which used the press. Both his parents collaborated with writers, revealing intimate details of their lives, and castigating each other. So he's just following in daddy's footsteps.

Well two wrongs don't make a right Gorianny; never have done and never will.

Anniebach Sun 17-Dec-23 19:13:02

Thankfully his brother doesn’t

Ilovecheese Sun 17-Dec-23 19:30:20

I hope that this victory for Prince Harry and others will be the beginning of the end for the shameful practise of phone hacking for gossip.
Hopefully the Daily mail will be next to be exposed. All good luck to him and Elton John and the others that have sufffered at the hands of gossip press.
I know many of you enjoy being unpleasant about him but there really was no need in this case, if indeed there ever is.

Anniebach Sun 17-Dec-23 19:38:13

I can recall anyone saying they enjoy being unpleasant about
Harry

But some wrongs are apparently forgiven and forgotten and others are just gone on and on about.

Iam64 Sun 17-Dec-23 21:31:07

I agree I love cheese, I hope the Daily Mail is also exposed.

Mollygo Sun 17-Dec-23 21:32:35

Weird excuse.
If you know somethings’s wrong, do you blame the fact that you’re doing it on someone else?

Smileless2012 Sun 17-Dec-23 23:10:50

Yes, Harry does go on and on doesn't he Glorianny.

icanhandthemback Mon 18-Dec-23 11:35:07

Just about everything we think we know about the Royal Family has been coloured by the press and their PR. We have no idea how awful or good any of them are really. What it does make me think is that it is a good thing that a lot of GN won't be on a jury. They've made up their mind regardless of the evidence.
I expect all of us would have difficulty remembering the finer details of our teens. Research shows that our memories are not that reliable so if people get things wrong, it doesn't necessarily make them liars.

Babamaman Mon 18-Dec-23 11:41:28

OS has admitted lying! He knows nothing of our Royals! Total disgrace as are his publishers and all the book shops stocking his trash!
What has happened to our judiciary?

Sparklefizz Mon 18-Dec-23 11:47:55

Scobie apparently remembers something he overheard in a busy office 22 years ago! What a good memory he has in certain instances - pretty poor in others.

eazybee Mon 18-Dec-23 12:04:12

I remember thinking earlier in the year how pleasant it was that there were few stories about H & M and they seemed to have faded from public view; one could almost believe that they were happy and satisfied with the life they had created.

Obviously they were simply marshalling their troops.

Mojack26 Mon 18-Dec-23 12:26:13

Don't care a stuff about Harry or Meghan. They have plenty money. He comes over as a petulant child.

Dillonsgranma Mon 18-Dec-23 12:42:54

To be honest i feel that prince Harry has behaved like a spoilt brat all his life and continues to do so . I wish he and his awful wife would just shut up and go away . America has had a bellyful of them already apparently

I don't know how he remembers something overheard 22 years ago, he only looks about 14.

Smileless2012 Mon 18-Dec-23 13:45:04

He'd have been 20 at the time HPQ and remembering something that was overheard 20 years ago, does seem to be stretching reality a bit doesn't it.

Some think Harry and others taking action are in fact doing the job the second part of the Leveson Enquiry was supposed to do until Hancock abandoned it. Yet another example of what a dreadful government this is. I wonder if the people who hate Harry voted them in? www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/dec/17/observer-view-prince-harry-court-victory-mirror-group-newspapers
