Michelle Mone has finally admitted she lied about the tens of millions of pounds profit they stand to make from their shameful PPE deal

She said her life had been "destroyed" by allegations about their PPE profits, even though "we've only done one thing, which was lie to the press to say we weren't involved".

She remains adamant they did nothing wrong and lying to the media isn’t a crime. Baroness Mone is also under investigation by the House of Lords for failing to declare an interest in PPE Medpro.

A truly odious pair of money grabbers who are now expecting sympathy for their plight.

Brilliant hey!

It's disgusting that she presents herself as a blameless victim. Most of all it's disgusting that the government appears to have handed out these contracts to party supporters and donors, ignoring legitimate and experienced providers in order to fast-track their cronies. They created an atmosphere in which it a probably seemed quite ok to behave in such a way. There are no doubt many other stories like this, so the spotlight shouldn't just been on this couple but on all those people who took advantage of a terrible crisis to line their own pockets.

I don't have any sympathy whatsoever for MM and her husband but I do not agree with them receiving death threats and the like. She should be stripped of her peerage and then they should be left alone in disgrace. Unless, of course, there is found to be a criminal case to answer.

Fleurpepper Mon 18-Dec-23 20:55:36

Don't you think she should pay back? And for safe disposal?

Siope Mon 18-Dec-23 23:36:53

And now Lord Bethell, who told the Covid Inquiry that he couldn’t access his WhatsApp messages from 2020 due to phone changes, is tweeting what appear to be WhatsApp messages he received from Mone is 2020.

They are totally beyond the pale.

Toetoe Mon 18-Dec-23 23:41:46

They should repay the money into the NHS

I so hope they are forced to pay it back

CoolCoco Tue 19-Dec-23 06:39:02

A national emergency shouldn’t be an excuse for excess profiteering. Reminds me of wartime spivs selling black market goods. You can get sanctioned for making a mistake on your benefits, but Sunak has written of over £4bn Covid loan fraud and nothing is done about Mone or Harding who have pocketed millions of taxpayer money and delivered a substandard service. All because they are Tory donors, it stinks of Tory sewage.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 19-Dec-23 08:05:07

It seems that certainly Gove and likely Sunak are fully in the PPE scandal frame now.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 19-Dec-23 08:56:45

Good to see my granny's belief - there's no honour amongst thieves - being proved correct.

If the PPE was “unusable” I’m wondering why they were paid at all, normally if a product is not up to specification you don’t get paid.

Someone must have approved and accepted the PPE why was it not rejected at that stage?.

Well, MedPro is being sued by the government for repayment of the money they took for faulty PPE, plus, I think, for associated costs.

I thought that govt was notoriously slow at paying its bills, so it does make you wonder if the VIP lane lot had special fast payments arrangements.

^How did she get into the lords? probably by contributing to Tory funds. A disgrace.^

It was Cameron who elevated her to the Lords. For her services to the Lingerie industry, perhaps.. wink grin

How on earth does she deserve a peerage? Why did Cameron elevate her? It again makes nonsense of the whole system which underpins the House of Lords.

Eloethan Tue 19-Dec-23 10:14:32

I agree the money should be paid back but it seems to be that there is little shame or honour here, and it may require legal clarification as to whether they can be forced to return the money. Morally, of course, it should be returned.

Tm Peck has a brilliant article in the Times

It doesn’t appear to be paywalled - just close the subscribe pop up.

She’s already spent the money on yachts and plastic surgery and handouts to her children

Whitewavemark2 Tue 19-Dec-23 10:23:58

What does need to happen is the prevention of the wealthy using the legal system to prevent journalists quite properly pursuing what is in the national/taxpayers interest.

I do wonder what else is not quite properly coming to public attention because a notice has been slapped on investigating journalists.

Money is in trust for the children. If ever there is an example of unearned income and the argument for proper taxation - this is it.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 19-Dec-23 10:36:46

This is probably suited to a separate thread, but i do wonder what Mariam Cates plus 8 other Tories have done to “bring the Houses of Parliament into severe disrepute”

It never stops - there won’t be a single one left soon who hasn’t done something disreputable.

Grantanow Tue 19-Dec-23 11:09:42

Looks like the Tories are trying to put, er, clear blue water between themselves and the noble Baroness.

There is no such thing in this country! It is full of sewerage.

Siope Tue 19-Dec-23 11:28:55

Mone is doing her level best to make sure they don’t succeed in that. I have no time for the woman at all, but am enjoying watching her trying to bring down the government.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 19-Dec-23 12:34:33

WWM 2 - MM lives on the Isle of Man , which has no inheritance tax, no capital gains tax and a top rate on income tax of 20%. Of course she lives there for the views, the climate etc..

MayBee70 Tue 19-Dec-23 13:49:36

To be fair to her she has said she’s been made a scapegoat. Which is true because everybody was at it!

If she hadn't kept on denying her involvement, and sending legal threats to journalists, she might have been treated a tiny bit less harshly by the public..

MayBee70 Tue 19-Dec-23 15:07:40

She’s like a naughty school kid petulantly saying ‘but he did it too, miss’.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 19-Dec-23 15:52:34

I see Gove is treating the House with contempt by announcing policy in a speech outside of parliament.

They consider themselves above the accepted rules don’t they?
