gwyllt see my previous post that was his next gaffe

The Home Secretary felt comfortable telling rape jokes at a Number 10 reception.

The Home Secretary, the person with ultimate responsibility for the detection and investigation of sexual crimes in this country, thinks rape is funny.

Thinks it is so funny that he had no problem expressing how funny it is in public at a formal government event. On the day his junior minister announced a 'crackdown' on spiking, the very behaviour he was joking about.

There is absolutely nothing defensible about this. Anyone defending this needs to have a long hard think about any other serious violent crime they think would be suitable for the Home Secretary to joke about in public.

I think the whole comment said something about if she saw more clearly she would look for someone better

The fact that his wife has been battling breast cancer makes the comment even more vile. A letter I’ve just received from my MP says that Cleverly denies saying sh*****e which is wrong for a start because he now owns up to saying it but said it was aimed at the MP for Stockton, not the place itself ( then again she lied about several other things I’d written to her about).

OMG poor woman. I didn't know that.

Nothing the man says can surprise me now.
It is absolutely appalling.
I can't imagine what his wife must feel.

RosiesMaw Sun 24-Dec-23 11:40:58

It’s not joking, there’s no “jest” - just appalling.

And another of his little gems of wisdom
He also laughed that the secret to a long marriage was ensuring your spouse was “someone who is always mildly sedated so she can never realise there are better men out there

Exactly I don’t care who s wife/girlfriend/mother/neighbour he was talking about blxxdy disgusting

Time he went with the other trash

nanaK54 Sun 24-Dec-23 11:37:42

Why would it even enter his mind to say such a thing?

Juliet27 Sun 24-Dec-23 11:33:06

Let’s face it there will be no end of different versions of what he said in countless reports but whatever it was…it’s disgraceful.

BlueBelle Sun 24-Dec-23 11:28:10

James Cleverly has apologised for joking about spiking *his wife’s drink with a date rape drug in comments made at a Downing Street reception*

Can’t really see your point Juliet should he be joking about spiking the cats mothers drink ???

Juliet27 Sun 24-Dec-23 11:24:27

I read that he said the ideal wife, not his wife.

BlueBelle Sun 24-Dec-23 11:21:09

What is it with this man and his runaway mouth
So it seems in ‘private’ and ‘in jest’ it’s said this man has joked about giving his wife Rohypnol ‘in a small amount of course hahaha’
Can he really stay on with so little thought in what he says
