this thread is literally reason why i continue telling old people in my age that you shouldnt wear expensive watches, if gangs can make robberies like these, they can easily steal your watch, for example i simply bought rolex sky dweller replica and im happy with it and im not scaried for my life.

Totally agree with your post MOnica. I shall wear my expensive watch which was a gift, my having that watch is not harming anyone else, it wasn't bought with proceeds of exploitation or abuse of anyone else's life, it is not an indication of my privilege, it is a gift from my family and I am entitled to wear it without fear of theft. The law is for everyone.

There seems a common belief pervading GN at the moment that anyone who has anything that is valuable in anyway it is sign that you are 'rich' and therefore some miscreant against society who deseves to lose everything they have. Have a nice watch and wear it - serves you right if it is stolen and why should the police bother to catch the thief.

Have a house with valuable things in and you deserve everything you get if someone breaks in and steals it.

People seem to be forgetting that the main victims of crime are the poorest and most vulnerable in society and there is no break between those who batten on the most vulnerable and thoase who steal from the rich, crime is crime, and criminals do not do an identity and income check before attacking people.

We are all equal under the law and any society that deviates from that is heading for the worse kind of inequality.

I would never, ever go out with designer items on show, you are asking for trouble. Even if you are wearing fake designer items, jewellery, bags etc. the burglars do not know that until they actually get it in their hands. Do not make yourself targets.

As for the break ins at footballers and celebrities homes the burglars know there will be items of value waiting to be stolen.

NO anyone should be able to go out without the fear that their watch, handbag, jewellery which has been purchased legitimately will be removed from their possession by some lowlife scum of the earth who cannot be bothered to get a proper job…

I wear my Omega, with diamonds around the dial, every day and have done since I was given it. My husband only wears his solid gold Omega when going out somewhere special. But why should we not wear them? What is the point of having something nice if you never wear it outside the house? I expect we all wear our engagement rings when going out, and I wear my mother’s diamond eternity ring 24/7. I will not live my life in fear of these guttersnipes.

When in a shop one time a salesman trying to sell explained to my husband and amused self how watches spoke. Salesman like himself knew who to bother with. But moreover he said amongst one another the watch on your wrist told who you were and what was your status to others around you.
I don’t wear one, he wears a Fitbit one not sure how they work in this instance.

No. And the more a watch is worth, the more money goes into the drug trade and, of course, keeps these despicable individuals. I am tempted to question whether they are all residing legally in this country. This is the sort of thing that failed/escaped asylum seekers get drawn into.

I agree, violent street crime is frightening and the value of the item stolen is irrelevant. We should all be able to wear what jewellery we like, use our phone or whatever without risk of attack, and I don't agree with the implication that 'posh watch wearers' somehow are less of a victim. I too have a valuable watch, bought for me as combined gift from DH, DS, DD and my late DM, and I should be able to wear it when and where I wish.

This is not the only undercover team they are operating. Are you not concerned about what the criminal fraternity are doing with the proceeds of selling these watches on?

Cartier are £2,500-£250,000! Of course a watch is far more important than animal abuse, child abuse, rape etc. Couldn't expect anything less from the police!

Catching the posh watch thieves is good. I hope the Met will be as assiduous in catching those who knowingly falsely prosecuted the subpostmasters. They are talking about a two year investigation after the public inquiry reports. The media circus will have moved on by then.

An expensive watch is not necessarily flashy, in fact, quite the opposite, people only 'flash' watches when they want to impress, and that often means they are fake.

Theft is theft, whether the victim is homeless or lives in a mansion, and the people who steal their goods are thieves and should be arrested and imprisoned.

I agree. I have a lovely Omega which was a 50th birthday present from my husband and he has had a solid gold one for many years. We both wear our nice watches when we go out and I wear mine every day. Why should we not do so just because these people (see photos in article I posted and make your minds up) would like to rob us, maybe with violence, to make money for drugs?
