To be appalled by the latest execution in the US.

The US has aspects of its national behaviour that are in some ways similar to some of those countries I think Terribull. Death penalty, gun laws, etc. We have much more in common with Europe. However I would take the US over all those countries mentioned and have been grateful for its presence in the last few months.
I have always found the death penalty appalling.

Yes one execution that didn't work causing post traumatic stress and then this.

State execution is something I associate with countries such as Iran, Saudi, China, all who have appalling human rights records it seems incongruous that the beacon of the free world, the US still has it, albeit in some states not all.

I'm not a proponent of capital punishment anyway, but USA seems to take it to the lowest depths. How on earth can this 'experiment' be justified? Callous in the extreme. And I'm not interested in the details of his crime. A life for a life is barbaric anyway but this is so wrong

I agree. And the fact he was in prison for over 30 years waiting to be killed, and suffered one execution that didn't work, makes me even more appalled.

Well any execution really, but the man it seems was used as some sort of guinea pig in the administration of this new method, death by nitrogen. His death was supposed to have been instant, but witnesses say he struggled for minutes. Barbaric were my thoughts.

I know such people have done dreadful things, but I can't get my head around capital punishment, state sanctioned murder, just so cold blooded and there have been at times great miscarriages of justice, when innocent people have been executed.
