To cut off funding for millions of sick and starving people because 12 people out of thousands who are working fir UNWRA were involved on 7 October is just wrong.
They have been sacked and being investigated so to stop
vital finding because of a handful who have been dealt with is immoral.
This! Yes!

Will Israel comply to the ICJ ruling?
(196 Posts)So the ICJ has stopped short of demanding a complete ceasefire, saying that Israel has a right to defend itself, but has ruled that South Africa does indeed have a plausible case under the Genocide Convention 1948. The ICJ roughly agreed with all 9 points of the South African case.
So the call is for Israel to immediately
Stop killing Palestinians civilians
Take immediate and effective action to give humanitarian aid to the civilian population, including water, food and medical aid.
Amongst other issues.
Will Israel comply?
They have a month to report back to the ICJ.
What’s going on in this war is just appalling innocent civilians being killed, on both sides, every day.
For a total ceasefire BOTH sides need to agree and comply and Hammas are unlikely to agree nor to release their remaining hostages.
Whilst I do not support Hammas I support all races/ nationalities having a safe place to live and in this case neither “sides” are going to win.
It’s terribly sad.
Will Israel comply? I fear not.

Of course had Israel not driven Palestinians from their homes and blockaded Gaza, controlling every aspect of life, so there was no possibility of it ever becoming self sufficient, never mind prosperous, there would have been no need for aid or UNWRA.
If people in the UK think the UN is useless imagine how someone growing up in Gaza must feel. A third or fourth generation refugee dependant on aid, seeing UN resolutions ignored time and time again by Israel. And that is why Hamas can recruit and will continue to do so.
Israel left Gaza in 2005 taking any settlers with them. Just imagine how prosperous Gaza would be and have been if Hamas hadn’t taken the money and built tunnels with it and bought arms.
Jaberwok
Russia also committing war crimes by their illegal unprovoked attack on Ukraine, but international organisations aren't too bothered about that, only the hated Israel. No one else ever seems to incur any wrath with anyone at all, no matter how many laws they break or how heinous their crimes to humanity no one cares.
You’re right Jaberwok, always Israel I wonder why?

I doubt very much that Hamas will comply with the ICJ and release the hostages.
That’s if they’re all still alive.
Given that the UNRWA was set up to help only Palestinians, it is unsurprising that there are individuals sympathetic to the Hamas cause.
However, I think caution must be exercised over the Israeli report, before coming to a definite conclusion.
Israel/Netanyahu has no wish to see the Palestinians supported in any way. Careful consideration must be given to their report, which no doubt has an element of truth but to jump from that to ceasing to support UNRWA seems exceedingly excessive, given the expected outcome if aid is no longer available to millions of Palestinians.
Netanyahu said or Netanyahu said as much ?
The Israeli govt knew that money was being syphoned off the aid budgets back in 2019. Netanyahu said as much in a speech to Likud but saw it as an acceptable cost of strengthening Hamas so it was a balance to Fatah. I've posted this link on several occasions on different threads and it has never been challenged! This has been brought up now because of the latest UN ruling. As Hamas has been running many of the schools, hospitals, food programmes etc in Gaza, it's hardly surprising that some of the UNRWA employees have links with Hamas but it doesn't make UNRWA a corrupt organisation.
Israeli v Hamas truth

Don’t forget that the first victim of war is truth.
And that brings us full circle to numbers of casualties.
And Israel v Palestinian “truth”

ActionAid doesn’t support your view of the IMF being invaluable

But before we become gung-Ho demanding it’s sacking, we must think very carefully about what we are trashing. In my view if the UN didn’t exist it would have to be invented.
Absolutely agree Whitewavemark2
Reading the posts concerning the UN, they appear all aimed at the UN Security Council, and it’s decline in relevance over the years, largely as a result of the widening ideological block, and increasing power between China/Russia and supporters v USA/Europe and supports.
The result is that the 5 veto bearing members - USA, Russia, U.K. France and China use their veto to prevent so many decisions being carried through. So if it’s primary purpose, is still to maintain world peace, then the UN has spectacularly failed.
But without doubt the UN has been successful in a number of areas - sustainable development goals is one that is working well, and the feeding and vaccination programmes have saved countless lives - I am sure that those who have benefited from its administrations do not think it is irrelevant. The climate change forum needs an agency at supranational level and the UN has provided valuable service in this area. The WHO has also been invaluable. The ICJ is another major success. The IMF - invaluable, ICAO - invaluable and vital. So many others which we forget about.
I do, however think that there is an urgent case however to look at the clear slowness and inefficiency, the need to have a much higher level of housekeeping and clear out corruption and cronyism (where have we heard that before?)- it certainly needs a root and branch overhaul.
But before we become gung-Ho demanding it’s sacking, we must think very carefully about what we are trashing. In my view if the UN didn’t exist it would have to be invented.
I agree Maddyone the UN needs to go
GALAXY , as for the chap from our footy club , he has died for his believes . You never know who lives amongst us .

If my words have no impact on you why are you responding ???
Your also right I don't understand your situation as I don't live in your boots , but I am happy to listen to different views even though they may not meet with mine that way we learn and gain understanding .
Given it’s total uselessness it probably should be disbanded now. It’s outserved it’s purpose.
That is all truly shocking and begs the question - what is the point of the United Nations?
A useless, toothless talking shop which appears to exists for its own benefit.
The United Nations (UN) was set up in 1945 as an international umbrella organisation with several objectives primarily including the prevention of war and maintaining peace in disputed areas.
It certainly does not fulfil its aims.
12 epic failures by the UN.

152 UNRWA workers have been killed in Gaza. Of the 12 accused by Israel, 9 have been fired. 1 is dead and the others are unidentified.
Israel has long had problems with UNRWAs work in Gaza.

That's a very high proportion!
As I said Wherever there's an opportunity, there is evil.
Also if your football club is involved with terrorists you may need to act.
I think our government have sent huge quantities of aid to Gaza. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
