Will Israel comply to the ICJ ruling?

So the ICJ has stopped short of demanding a complete ceasefire, saying that Israel has a right to defend itself, but has ruled that South Africa does indeed have a plausible case under the Genocide Convention 1948. The ICJ roughly agreed with all 9 points of the South African case.

So the call is for Israel to immediately

Stop killing Palestinians civilians

Take immediate and effective action to give humanitarian aid to the civilian population, including water, food and medical aid.

Amongst other issues.

Will Israel comply?

They have a month to report back to the ICJ.

65KL that’s awful. I suppose we never really know do we? I try to donate to what I believe are reputable organisations, but I think we never know for certain. I have a few favourites, The Poppy Appeal is another of my favourites and I think many of us Gransnetters donate each year to that. I have a few favourites and some I now avoid. What a sad world that so many charities and public and private organisations have so many greedy and corrupt people in them, often sadly, at the top.
The UN however, is funded by governments. I’ve always had faith in the UN, but I’m losing faith in it now.

Galaxy Sun 28-Jan-24 22:23:16

65kl I am not sure you quite understand the situation for many of us now. Your words have absolutely no impact on me at all.

65KL Sun 28-Jan-24 22:18:07

Oh also my local hospice shop , couple volunteers were skimming off the takings

65KL Sun 28-Jan-24 22:15:52

Thats good , pleased you have a moral compass and only donate to what you believe to be trustworthy organisation's, what I'm trying to say is to rule out all organisation's that have bad people in them we wouldn't have many left . Including all church organisation's all government organisation's,all governments, my local fotty club !!!

Anniebach Sun 28-Jan-24 22:06:25

maddyone 👏

Yes, if there are found to be bad people in an organisation, I’m sorry, but that makes the organisation bad.
I refuse to donate now to any organisation that has been shown to have bad apples. OXFAM is a case in point. After the horrible goings on in that organisation came to light I now refuse to donate to OXFAM. I won’t even take my no longer wanted clothing to their shop. I take them to The British Heart Foundation’s shop instead, or to the shop of our local hospice, where my friend recently died.

Can all the hostages be released any longer? I suspect many might be dead. I’ve seen it reported that some have died in bombing raids, others murdered by Hamas. Who knows? None of us.
I do think of those beautiful little boys taken with their mother. They were not released when the other children were released. Hamas say they’re dead. Again who knows?
And all the beautiful children killed during the bombing raids. The Israeli children who were murdered, the Palestinian children killed by bombs. It’s all so sad.
However, unlike many on here, I know who has caused all this misery. Hamas! They have caused it all.

Sadly there are bad people in every organisation in the world , dose that make the organisation bad ?

The U.N. didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory in Bosnia.
Too many people have forgotten that horror.

Galaxy Sun 28-Jan-24 21:50:59

If any organisation I worked with had links with terrorists I would be leaving immediately. I am afraid whatever you say has no impact now, I am not sure people understand what has happened to peoples faith in these institutions. It's been happening for a considerable time now.

Barmeyoldbat Sun 28-Jan-24 21:40:52

If all hostages are released Will Israel stop the bombing, I think not

Glorianny Sun 28-Jan-24 21:32:43

152 UNRWA workers have been killed in Gaza. Of the 12 accused by Israel, 9 have been fired. 1 is dead and the others are unidentified.
Israel has long had problems with UNRWAs work in Gaza.

Galaxy Sun 28-Jan-24 21:08:10

No I am not in the slightest bit surprised but there is real danger in people being unable to trust institutions, the position I now find myself in.

petra Sun 28-Jan-24 21:06:16

Sad to say but I wasn’t surprised. After the Oxfam scandal broke ( which a priest had warned me against 40yrs ago) I don’t trust any of these agencies.
Whether it’s a case of terrorist infiltrating the agencies or good people going rogue, I don’t know.
But all in all these are very serious allegations.

Wherever there's an opportunity, there is evil.

maddyone Sun 28-Jan-24 20:57:25

Good. It seems the people involved have had their contracts terminated by the UNRWA. That says it all.
Thank you for the link Callistemon.
I hope further action will be taken.

Who can be trusted?

maddyone Sun 28-Jan-24 20:40:05

Despite currently being here in New Zealand, I actually saw that reported last night Annie.
I had written on here some time ago that it had been reported that a hostage had been held in the apartment of a UN representative. This information presumably came from a released hostage. I was roundly ridiculed for reporting what I had seen reported. Whilst none of us can believe everything we see/hear/read, I was concerned about this when I initially heard it. Now it seems that people in the UNRWA are indeed being investigated, which I find extremely troubling.

Anniebach Sun 28-Jan-24 14:40:03

More members of UNRWA are being investigated

Ok well then wait until Hamas releases all the innocent Israeli hostages, which of course was the start of all this along with the horrific slaughter of citizens.

The deaths in Gaza are dreadful, especially those of children who of course are innocent, but Hamas is solely responsible for the devastation.
They have fully admitted that they are hell-bent on eliminating all Jews, so Israel therefore is fighting for its very existence.

Then of course there is the aspect of how many Palestinians are still Hamas supporters.

Israel is a secular state according to previous posters. Accepting this, then I am free to criticise Israeli actions and positions without being anti-semitic. How can it be otherwise if Israel is a secular state?

Farzanah Sun 28-Jan-24 13:46:36

Agree 65KL.
Agree too with foxie48.
I urge people to donate via Medical Aid for Palestine.

Rightly or wrongly the only hope of getting hostages back is for a ceasefire to occur
That call is Netanyahus

I wonder why do you assume the hostages are still alive?
Do you think that Israeli bombs somehow only kill Palestinians?
Or that the hostages will not be subject to the same starvation and thirst Palestinians are?
For that matter with the total lack of communication in some parts of Gaza do you think Hamas even knows if they are alive or not?

Anniebach Sun 28-Jan-24 12:19:29

JenniferEccles I agree

Listened to Lily Evert, she saw October 7th the same as she witnessed when her mother and siblings were taken to death camps, murder and rape.
