Garden Shade Dilemma - Ideas Please
So the ICJ has stopped short of demanding a complete ceasefire, saying that Israel has a right to defend itself, but has ruled that South Africa does indeed have a plausible case under the Genocide Convention 1948. The ICJ roughly agreed with all 9 points of the South African case.
So the call is for Israel to immediately
Stop killing Palestinians civilians
Take immediate and effective action to give humanitarian aid to the civilian population, including water, food and medical aid.
Amongst other issues.
Will Israel comply?
They have a month to report back to the ICJ.
foxie48 I agree
Ok well then wait until Hamas releases all the innocent Israeli hostages, which of course was the start of all this along with the horrific slaughter of citizens.
The deaths in Gaza are dreadful, especially those of children who of course are innocent, but Hamas is solely responsible for the devastation.
They have fully admitted that they are hell-bent on eliminating all Jews, so Israel therefore is fighting for its very existence.
Then of course there is the aspect of how many Palestinians are still Hamas supporters.
foxie48 yes.
Israel won't comply with the ICJ ruling. Neither Netanyahu and his right wing govt nor Hamas want a two state solution so the war in Gaza will continue and innocent women and children will continue to die. Netanyahu's desire to kill as many Gazans as possible outweighs his desire to get the hostages freed. He has been very clear about this right from the start. The fact that a small number of Palestinians (12 out of a workforce of 30K) will be used to justify stopping aid going into Gaza. tbh I am shocked that so many countries are using this as an excuse to stop funding UNRWA, it is a cruel over reaction and IMO, a cowardly political response. It is not possible to justify the actions of Hamas on 7/10, nor is it possible to justify the actions of the IDF in Gaza, both are inhumane acts that should be condemned by the whole world.

Hamas says it will abide by any ICJ ceasefire order if Israel reciprocates. Jan 25 (Reuters) - Hamas said on Thursday that if the International Court of Justice issues a ruling calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian movement will abide by it as long as Israel reciprocates.
I don’t understand why Israel who were attacked in October is asked to stand back but no request to Hamas, because Hamas wouldn’t stand back?

I can't understand about everyones squabbling about how many people have died or injured. The fact is there are TOO many innocent people dead , too many parents have buried their children , too many children have buried their parents . Dose it really matter what the number is ????
Also both sides have done atrocities, neither of them are squeaky clean .
I don't understand it either

I find it bizarre that there are arguments about how many deaths there are and how few visible men. If it was my family even one death would be too many.
I have seen plenty of men, in fact whole families trying to shelter, or trying to get food for their families. What is the assumption behind emphasising lack of visible men, that they are all secreted in the tunnels, but women and children have to take their chances dodging bombs?
Gaza is being razed to the ground and fellow humans are clearly dying in their thousands, accurate numbers or not.
What if it were us?
‘From the river to the sea’ isn’t a cry for genocide ?

I don't know if Israel or Hamas will comply with the ruling (although I do wonder if the hostages are still alive and if anyone knows where they are)
I do hope the UK will stop supplying arms to Israel so facilitating this genocide. It is not genocide, it is war, started by hamas. Will you ask Iran to stop supply arms to them, guess not.
The ICJ ruled
At least some of the acts and omissions alleged by South Africa to have been committed by Israel in Gaza appear to be capable of falling within the provisions of the (Genocide) Convention," the judges said
I don't live in Iran I live in the UK and I object to supplying any weapons to a country that can even be suspected of genocide.
65KL Unfortunately the images of people in distress in Gaza are real !
Of course they are. But they are also carefully chosen and edited by people with motives and viewpoints that may or may not coincide with yours or mine.

This problem has dragged on for too long and a solution needs to be found. The leaders need to get together and come to some agreement. Slaughtering each other achieves nothing but more hatred.
I'm surprised at the Israelis. They are known for the efficiency, but seem to have allowed the Hamas to gain strength. Unless that has been their intention...the massacre on 7th October might have given them the excuse they needed to start bombarding Gaza.
The Arabs and Jews both claim descent from Abraham, and he settled in the land which became Canaan/ Palestine/ Israel. It belongs to both and they should learn to live together in the same country.

We can just express our concerns about using information from Hamas. If its sits uncomfortably for you to do this just find a way to deal with it.

Figures of deaths given by Hamas and HRW !
Unless there are others that is all we have to go on. If it sits uncomfortably then find other ones.

^as far as I’m concerned a two state solution should have been negotiated years ago^
What a shame they didn’t ask you to negotiate it then, because by now it would all be sorted.
Oh dear! 😄
I refer you to the numerous efforts since the 1920s - which suggests that the two state solution will be the only answer to the appalling level of death and destruction.
2007 was looking so hopeful - but seem to fall by the wayside through lack of effort.

40% of Gazans are children so 30% are women making the+majority 70% women and children. ,
That leaves 30% men so it’s obvious more women and children will be killed because there are a lot more of them..40% of Gazans are children
Compared to an average of about 18% in the UK and a global average of about 25%.
Why?
Population age structure varies largely according to the status of the country, - so developing countries tend to have a much younger age bulge than developed countries like the U.K.
Effective governance and stability also plays a part.
With regard to the death toll in Gaza. Historically Hamas HM have always provided the figures which have been proven pretty accurate in past conflicts, however, there is no denying that they have a clear incentive to inflate the figures.
So with this in mind, a number of agencies including Human Rights Watch and others, have used other information to try to judge the accuracy of the Hamas data, and have all concluded that the figures are as accurate as is possible given the chaotic nature of the situation. In past conflicts there has been up to 8% inaccuracy - either way at any one time.

This from www.learnreligions.com may help;
'Ever since its creation, there have been debates and disagreements about the nature of the state of Israel. Formally, it's a secular democracy where Judaism is privileged; in reality, many orthodox Jews believe that Israel should be a theocratic state where Judaism is the supreme law of the land.'
So, like most other things, is as clear as mud then!
No - until the Knesset decides otherwise, Israel is a secular state. It became a secular state at its formation.
However, it also sees itself as the national state for Jewish people, and this I think is what is muddling people.
Not every individual in Israel is a religious person, indeed at least 45% of Israeli’s of Jewish descent declare themselves as secular.
Just like the U.K. , Israel has no written constitution, but it is clear from its written law that it is a secular state where there is freedom to follow your chosen religion. However, more contentiously, whilst an individual is free to follow her own religion, those of Jewish descent are not recognised as secular under the law - so family law, in particular, is affected. You must go through a religious ceremony when you are married, regardless of preference. These ceremonies are carried out by orthodox rabbis - rabbis of other branches of Judaism cannot conduct marriage ceremonies. The orthodox rabbis do not recognise any marriage not conducted under their auspices, but the state does - E.g. any marriage outside of the Israeli state.

The ICJ have said that they have concerns that there are areas of the genocide law that they ARE crossing over into, we will see what their final ruling is
The problem is the ICJ can't do anything to enforce their rulings . It's basically just for show , again a bunch of people sitting round talking , pretty much a waste of time

Watching the 11,00pm news, certainly a shortage of men , a woman with 5 children and pushing a cart loaded with possessions, followed by several more women lots of children,no men
The people I've see in videos collecting aid have been nearly all men. Maybe that's what they're doing.
