Even in 'happy' families with children who grow up to be well-adjusted adults, siblings will have completely different memories and perspectives of childhood.
Good Morning Thursday 7th May 2026
Brianna Ghey the young trans gender girl murdered at a local beauty spot, her killers have been named today.
Do you think it is right that the Judge has released their names? I think of the knock on effect for their families and siblings.
This was a truly dreadful crime and deeply upsetting as in my home village from a long time ago,
I have to be honest struggle to understand trans gender and we hear so much of it now but NOTHING warrants being murdered in such ghastly way.
My husband thinks old enough to do the crime then they should be named and shamed.
What do others think?
My thoughts with Brianna's family today.

I don’t see that naming the perpetrators serves any useful purpose. “justice being seen to be done” comes from an era when there was no or minimal press reporting of court proceedings. We know the sentences. Why isn’t that enough?
Listen to what the judge said.
winterwhite, I’d like to think the announcement of the names will shorten the endless requests for names, which would undoubtedly have been dragged up every year until they reached 18.
Hopefully the endless analysis of their family backgrounds, and speculation about what made them do it will also be shorter.
More important to me is that the need for passing of information from one school to another is studied.
Personally I don't think the two minors who killed Brianna should be named.I think it is very hard on the parents and siblings and my heart goes out to them. I was impressed by the way Brianna's mum spoke. Hope they can all start to slowly rebuild their lives.

This is very important indeed.
Why should a school be expected to accept a child who had drugged a younger child without the relevant information being made available to the Head Teacher and relevant staff? It's a safeguarding and health and safety risk.
I agree Mollygo. That’s a very important point.
I don't see how naming the murderers will cause more problems to their families/siblings than had they not been named for a year.
Everyone in their community knows which families are involved. They may try to move away but that information will follow them. At some point they have to learn to live with it. They would have been living in dread of the names being released next year anyway, best to get it out there and over with.
Brianna's mum was on BBC this morning. Such a brave woman. She was sympathetic towards the parents of the killers who she said were devastated and had lost their children too.
Brianna had trusted the girl who killed her and thought her a friend.
Her mum, unsurprisingly, had no sympathy for her child's murderers and is glad they will be serving long sentences.
She said she didn't think either of them would cope well in prison.
Ms Jenkinson’s mum has released a statement saying that she agrees with her daughter and her accomplice being named and with the sentencing.
She also said that the last twelve months have been extremely difficult for the family, especially when the full horror of what her daughter had done.
The thing that is running around my head is that the killers are the same age as my DGD. I think of her and try to imaagine, her, or her close friends, even beginning to think, let alone act like these two did. She too is a clever girl and comes from a stable loving home.

I believe the Judge was right to identify them. It’s hard for their families but my thoughts are with Brianna’s family
This.
My thoughts are not restricted , parents and grandparents are grieving loss of a child

The parents of Scarlet Jenkinson are separated, she lived with her mother in a £250000 house, her parents are directors for
engineer firms, the name of village where she lived is given to,
this helps to understand why !
Facts vary so much. This from the Liverpool Echo

Depends which paper , doesn’t make it right
The judge thought it right to name the killers and the female killer’s mother also agrees. Why is it ‘not right’, Annie? Why do you consider your opinion to be superior?
GSM when have I claimed to be superior? Are you superior when you disagree with anyone ?
You keep saying it’s wrong despite the judge and the girl’s parents saying that identifying them was right.
In my opinion it’s wrong, looked at Tic Tok this morning for jokes about Wales and Six Nations rugby, there immediately was film of the police carrying out the arrests

Chances are that footage would have done the rounds on social media whether they had been named in the courts or not.
Thought police couldn’t release such things unless decreed it was in the public interest, judge thought it was, I don’t
It came with ‘Princess of Wales had face lift’

It must have taken some courage for her to release that statement. The fact that she agrees with them being named and with the sentencing speaks volumes.
My heart goes out to Brianna’s family. What those poor people must be going through. I’m also not sure that it was wise to name them as it has a knock on effect to their family. They cannot be blamed for what these kids did. It was the evil’s girl’s mam who turned her into the police, from what I have read. They will be a target now. I feel so sorry for them all but not the evil killers.
I think the judge was right to name them too.

They are quick enough to name, innocent until proven guilty rapists and others, but not to name murdering thugs, whatever age. Sorry but they need to be named, other murderers are why not these. There is a knock on effect, on families, whoever the guilty are, whatever the heinous crime, of whatever age, so no difference really.
