It’s just been on the news that Charles has cancer and is not taking any duties for now

TerriBull Mon 05-Feb-24 19:20:17

I wish him well and hope that his treatment is successful. I imagine it is hard to talk about such a personal and worrying diagnosis and make it public, but I think in doing so he is trying to head off any obfuscation, but also to raise awareness.

BlueBelle Mon 05-Feb-24 19:18:47

There are many, many very kind people on here Helen and you will miss that as you want to leave, and that’s up to you but I actually feel you are strangely siding with the person who was the rude one
But it’s entirely up to you of course just a word of warning don’t wander onto Mumsnet 😀

keepcalmandcavachon Mon 05-Feb-24 19:17:49

I am saddened and worried for our King and his family at this time. Just like any other family they will have to come to terms with the news, make changes and hope for the best outcome, But for them it will all be in the glare of publicity. I wish His Majesty a speedy recovery.

I’m new to gransnet. This will be my first and last post as I’ve been reading the forums for the last few days and don’t like the tone many of the comments take and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s definitely not the site for me.
Coolcoco, I’m sad to see that you are getting barbed and sarcastic comments for your post. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions which others may or may not agree with and healthy debate with one another is great, we can all learn from debate. I don’t feel that this is a discussion, it’s more like playground bullies ganging up against someone they don’t like or agree with. I’ve noticed this trend on several threads. My mum used to say ‘if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all’. Some people on here would be wise to heed that advice.

Perhaps Coolcoco should heed the advice from your Mum. Lots and lots of great people on here, lots of diverse and interesting debates and opinions, lots of support when one really needs it.

Absolutely no need to announce your departure, slip quietly away in a dignified manner!

Oldnproud Mon 05-Feb-24 19:15:20

I think it is right that the king has allowed this to be made public, and I am pleased that it is being reported on TV BUT I think that they are going way over the top with the coverage given to it. We have already been told all there is to know, so why are so many channels spinning this out to ridiculous lengths with little more than pointless speculation and empty drivel?

Aveline Mon 05-Feb-24 19:15:00

merlotgran- spot on.
Good for Charles making this public and saying that it's something that affects so many people round the world. I hope he makes a rapid and full recovery. No need to force himself back to work on principle though. He's not in the first flush of youth and needs to give himself time to recover.

luluaugust Mon 05-Feb-24 19:14:51

I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. Our family has gone through this recently and we wish him well

Freya5 Mon 05-Feb-24 19:12:24

CoolCoco

They haven’t said it was prostate cancer though have they? They’ve said they found a separate condition whilst doing the treatment for a benign condition, it’s all speculation and gossip. Yes, talking about cancer and encouraging checking is good, but the BBC news have only had this issue on for 10 minutes, you’d think there was nothing else happening in the world.

Oh dear. You know what, he is our head of state, it matters to many. Ten minutes, that's all. You didn't have to listen to it, there is an off button , I use it frequently.

varian Mon 05-Feb-24 19:10:51

I admire the way he has gone public about his prostate and now about his cancer.

HM reminds me of our wonderful SOOP who some time ago told us all about her medical problems.

It is brave to share such intimate information, and I'm sure it does help many others who are tempted to ignore symptoms.

karmalady Mon 05-Feb-24 19:09:45

I am so sorry to read about this diagnosis. I hope he recovers well.

Cossy Mon 05-Feb-24 19:09:10

I’m not sure why it’s “toadying”, people will speculate, it’s the nature of humans to be curious.

Wish him a speedy and full recovery at this worrying time and good to read Harry is flying across to see him.

Not the place nor the time for a post like this imo sad

Whitewavemark2 Mon 05-Feb-24 19:04:33

I am a Republican by my head, but I actually think KC is OK.

Whenever I watch and listen, I find myself so often nodding in approval at what he has achieved over his lifetime - given his limitations.

Serendipity22 Mon 05-Feb-24 19:04:16

Ohhhh you get used to it.....
We're not all like that.......
Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion...... 😃

Kandinsky Mon 05-Feb-24 19:04:03

Wishing our king all the very best.
Hopefully they’ve caught the cancer early and he’ll make a good recovery.

Serendipity22 Mon 05-Feb-24 19:00:35

Oh I saw this on the news.... i admire him for wanting it to be public.

We watch and see.

I do wish him a speedy recovery......

Well thanks for the lecture. Don’t let us keep you.

You could always turn it off. But then you wouldn’t have anything to grumble about.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 05-Feb-24 18:54:55

Opinions should be tempered according to the matter under discussion. This is a very serious issue and if Coolcoco doesn’t want to know about it the solution lies in the off button. I would agree that Gransnet is probably not for you if you think posters have acted like playground bullies. They are concerned for the King’s health and someone who says they don’t want to know about it is upsetting.

Labradora Mon 05-Feb-24 18:51:58

All sympathy to King Charles and best wishes for a good outcome.
All sympathy to cancer sufferers everywhere.
King or no King and notwithstanding his apparently stoic upbringing and nature, these diagnoses are always a bloody awful shock.
It's natural that the Media would be interested. He's not only our Head of State ( and of about 14 Commonwealth countries as well ) but he and all the British Royal family are celebrities in this era , whether they like it or not. I don't think anyone is toadying.

LadyGracie Mon 05-Feb-24 18:51:19

I wish him well and respect his openness in letting everyone know about his diagnosis.

dogsmother Mon 05-Feb-24 18:49:35

Oh Helen, coolcoco said something that wasn’t very nice.

I think we all join in wishing him well and back to good health in the near future. I think it was brave of him to make the decision to share his news with the whole world.

LovesBach Mon 05-Feb-24 18:38:26

I wish him well; he has always seemed to be a good man who tries to do good things. By publicising his health condition he will encourage others to make enquiries for themselves - this has already proved to be a positive with his prostate investigations.
