It’s just been on the news that Charles has cancer and is not taking any duties for now

CoolCoco Mon 05-Feb-24 18:03:50

I don’t think this should be headline news. I don’t wish to know. Now we’ll have loads of speculation about his treatment etc. Should be private.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 05-Feb-24 18:03:54

Yes I’ve just seen that.

Always a miserable diagnoses for anyone.

Sparklefizz Mon 05-Feb-24 18:06:49

It will encourage people to get themselves checked. Well done to him for being so open.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 05-Feb-24 18:07:30

There would be speculation about why he wasn’t undertaking engagements. Good for him being so open about it. I hope he can be treated successfully.

CoolCoco Mon 05-Feb-24 18:08:21

Ok to be open but can’t stand all the speculation, blathering on about who is taking over his duties etc This shouldn’t dominate the news. This is just toadying.

BlueBelle Mon 05-Feb-24 18:09:04

Don’t agree coolcoco the amount of men who went for testing after he spoke out about his enlarged prostrate can only be a positive
Just because you don’t wish to know doesn’t mean the rest of the country shouldn’t know
I m not a Royalist at all but as a human being I wish him all the best in the world

Anniebach Mon 05-Feb-24 18:09:31

I so hope he will be treated successfully

henetha Mon 05-Feb-24 18:10:10

I agree Sparklefizz. Far better to be open and therefore encourage others to get checked.
Huge sympathy to the King for this setback and I wish him all the very best for full recovery. And to all who have cancer.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 05-Feb-24 18:11:06

So do I. He is our Head of State so of course it will dominate the news. I don’t know what’s toadying about it.

TinSoldier Mon 05-Feb-24 18:12:12

From BBC:

It is not prostate cancer, but was discovered during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate.

The type of cancer has not been revealed, but according to a palace statement the King began "regular treatments" on Monday.

It’s not toadying. People will be genuinely shocked and concerned. I know I am.

There will be far less speculation I the palace are open about this.

CoolCoco Mon 05-Feb-24 18:12:43

They haven’t said it was prostate cancer though have they? They’ve said they found a separate condition whilst doing the treatment for a benign condition, it’s all speculation and gossip. Yes, talking about cancer and encouraging checking is good, but the BBC news have only had this issue on for 10 minutes, you’d think there was nothing else happening in the world.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 05-Feb-24 18:13:33

I hope any treatment he is receiving will be successful.

This explains why William is returning to Royal duties earlier than expected.

henetha Mon 05-Feb-24 18:13:39

No one would 'toady' to the King. He wouldn't wish it.
Unkind right now, CoolCoco.

nadateturbe Mon 05-Feb-24 18:15:32

I'm not a royalist but he is a human being, and his family are going through a rough time at the minute. I just feel sympathy for them.
I think it's right that we should know.
I wish him all the best with his treatment, just as I do anyone with cancer.

Grantanow Mon 05-Feb-24 18:15:41

I hope his cancer treatment will be successful. I think being open about his hospital stay is a good thing as it encourages the public to think about prostate enlargement.

BlueBelle Mon 05-Feb-24 18:16:26

As you’re not interested Coolcoco why so many posts about something you’re not interested in 😂

varian Mon 05-Feb-24 18:16:35

I think they said it was not prostate cancer but another cancer discovered when he was having prostate treatment.

I think this reinforces the message to men to get themselves checked out.

Charles will have the very best medical care and let's hope that he does well and makes a full recovery, as most cancer patients do now.

rafichagran Mon 05-Feb-24 18:16:46

I wish him well. I also do not agree with coolgran Could you explain why it is toadying? If more men are checked, his announcement can only be a good thing.

Jaxjacky Mon 05-Feb-24 18:17:04

Change channels CoolCoco maybe watch a film.

Doesn't your TV/radio have an 'off' switch then?

CoolCoco Mon 05-Feb-24 18:18:41

Well I’ve turned the news off as it’s just repeating the same old stuff. I do wish him well, I know from my own family how much a cancer diagnosis affects everyone, I don’t want this constant over discussion about every minute aspect of one persons life.

tickingbird Mon 05-Feb-24 18:19:40

I wish him well and hope everything goes according to plan.

Hopefully Harry will stop causing anymore stress to his father.

rafichagran Mon 05-Feb-24 18:20:13

Sorry I said coolgran, should have beeb coolcoco.
