It’s just been on the news that Charles has cancer and is not taking any duties for now

Iam64 Thu 08-Feb-24 18:35:08

Several couples in our adult children’s friendship group have married in recent years. Big celebrations, bride in beautiful ivory or white gowns and ver often the couples children as bridesmaids or pages.
Thank goodness it isn’t 1953 - I liked Meghans dress and honestly, what reason could there be to criticise her for wearing white. Divorcee - who cares

MissInterpreted Thu 08-Feb-24 18:33:08

Why? Shouldn't a woman marry wearing whatever she wants? Your comment comes across that it's somehow shameful for shock horror a divorcee in her 30s to wear white? I really thought we'd moved on from that kind of attitude these days.

Anniebach Thu 08-Feb-24 18:31:24

Can’t agree

MissInterpreted Thu 08-Feb-24 18:30:01

Anniebach

Yes Misinterpreted a bride , mid 30’s, divorced wearing virginal white whilst walking down the aisle doesn’t fit the mould,

Maybe because we are now in the 21st century?

Anniebach Thu 08-Feb-24 18:23:47

Agree , but it’s so wrong that the press has built on the pining love story

MissAdventure Thu 08-Feb-24 18:20:13

Well, then the book is probably best not used as any proof of anything.
Either way, Diana is long gone, and Gladys and Chuck (?) are happily married.

I imagine Charles would want nobody else other than Camilla at this time, because they seem to be an excellent fit for each other.

Anniebach Thu 08-Feb-24 18:15:51

Ok Miss Adventure Andrew Morton wrote what Diana told him on tapes ,I was told in 1973 by someone at the wedding, then there was no talk of Charles and Camilla then

MissAdventure Thu 08-Feb-24 18:08:16

Oh, so only parts of the book then?

Sorry Annie, I seem to be disagreeing with you all the time now I'm back.

It's not intentional or just for the sake of it. flowers

Anniebach Thu 08-Feb-24 18:05:25

I believe the family member who showed me photographs of the wedding

MissAdventure Thu 08-Feb-24 17:46:45

Andrew Mortons book said she got fed up with waiting around for Charles and married the other man because of that.
Either way, I'm glad if anyone is happily married, and they certainly look to be.

I've quite warmed to Charles these days.

Anniebach Thu 08-Feb-24 17:43:39

Camilla married twice for love , I am glad the second marriage is so happy

MissAdventure Thu 08-Feb-24 17:29:57

Love.. not live. angry

MissAdventure Thu 08-Feb-24 17:29:23

Well, that's all of the royals married for live then.

Just that some took longer about it than others.

Casdon Thu 08-Feb-24 17:27:51

I give up (again) Glorianny, you are now tacitly admitting that Charles did marry Camilla for love.

Anniebach Thu 08-Feb-24 17:15:58

Glorianny obviously you are not a member of the Anglican Church

Harry told the world male members of his family married to suit the mould but he married for love

I'm no fan of Harry (or any of the RF, if I'm being totally honest) but I think there's more than a degree of truth in that particular statement.

I don’t think there is. If that were true why did Charles marry Camilla?

Because the first wife proved more difficult to shape to the mould than was expected.

Your logic defeats me as ever. So Charles married Camilla, a divorced and independent woman, who still now retains her own home, and who had two children, against the wishes of many, because he had failed to mould Diana to conform.

After maintaining a relationship with her throughout his first marriage of course.
And I don't know what form that relationship took.
But it went on
That's why they couldn't marry in church. There has to be no involvement of the second spouse in the failure of the first marriage.

Rose Tinted Glasses - like it MissInterpreted. Your name sits well in this discussion, where ‘some posters’ seem to have their own rock solid interpretations of who said what and when within the RF
They’re a family who because of their role, live out much of their lives in public. I find it hard not to feel a degree of sympathy for all of them, particularly given the King’s cancer diagnosis.
I’ve no difficulty in believing that Camilla worked hard with her advisors in attempts to get the public to see her more favourably. Whatever they did was effective as she’s generally accepted as the wife of the King

Indeed.

I feel sad King Charles, who seems gentle, eco-friendly, sustainably forward, has cancer. I can easily feel sympathy for the King's cancer, apart from his family matters - which I'm actually not privy to anyway.

It seems Camilla, given years, has morphed from unacceptable to being accepted as Queen. The late Queen was ok with her, good enough for me.

Maybe he did say something to them and wasn't listened too Glorianny but that doesn't excuse broadcasting it to the whole world does it.

William clearly married his wife from love.

Or maybe because she just kept hanging around!

Some quote what members of the family say ,some choose to believe anything in the press

MissInterpreted Thu 08-Feb-24 16:34:16

Indeed, Iam64 - I always find it amusing with any threads on here about the RF, because there are always posters who claim to 'know' exactly what members of the RF say and think, even behind closed doors.
