Aid for Gaza

Is there a logistical reason food and drink could not be supplied by Allied aeroplanes and parachutes dropping these by airlift to Gaza?

I said Hamas.

Hamas accepted a two state solution in 2017. Israel didn't.

Whatever is done to them by Hamas they will return tenfold seems to be their credo. I don’t think things will change. Both sides want to totally annihilate the other. I don’t think they are capable of coexistence.

The Palestinians do not want to annihilate anyone. They are mostly composed of third and fourth generation refugees who understandably think they are entitled to claim back some of the land which has been stolen from them.
They have accepted a two state solution many times. Israel has always refused to comply.

I think Israel works on the basis that they can do certain things and then just sit and refuse to be moved, hoping that with time what they have established will come to be regarded as the norm. You can't really blame them. The land they snatched in 1948 has become theirs, so has the land they occupied in 1967. They have successfully blockaded access to Gaza, and controlled the country by a series of bombing raids. Why would they negotiate when they. just need to sit tight?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 11-Feb-24 07:54:05

It seems to me that Israel’s biggest supporters - USA, U.K. etc are saying that the two state solution is non-negotiable - it must go ahead and in fact Cameron had gone further to say that the Palestinian state should be recognised immediately.

Well, that is all fine and dandy, and if it works will bring huge rewards for both sides. But my goodness the world is going to have to work hard to get to that point and my question is - does it have the focus and stamina to see this through.

Honestly - I doubt it.

No he doesn’t, Netanyahu has only ever paid lip service to rescuing the hostages. They have never been his priority.

The Israel government, has a lot of questions that its citizens will need answering.

Why did Netanyahu actively encourage the funding of Hamas?

How was such a high security fence - so easily breached.? Where was the army?

Why after all this savagery does Hamas still exist?

How does Israel recover from its shattered reputation, which wasn’t shiny before the October events, and after Rafah - if the rest of Gaza is to go by - will be at rock bottom.

What now?

I have been following and praying for news of Hind’s rescue - a little 6 year old girl who phoned begging for help - Red Crescent workers got permission and coordinates were agreed with the Israeli military.

Hind was found - shot to death, and the ambulance that went to rescue her was burnt to the ground.

Israel is not complying with the rules of war is it?

The unspeakable barbarity of the attack carried out by Hamas on innocent Jewish people will not be assuaged by slaughtering 6 year old Palestinian children.

I don't think Netanyahu cares one jot for the rules of war - nor the remaining Jewish hostages.

Oh no, I was hoping she'd been rescued.
😥
Just an innocent little girl caught up in men's hatred for each other. 🤬

If the UK and the US threatened to stop supplying weapons there could be an immediate ceasefire.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 10-Feb-24 21:14:31

Lord Cameron is calling for an immediate cease fire.

I was just listening to Lucy Williamson telling Hind’s story this morning on R4. I hadn’t caught up with the news that she had been killed. And the two paramedics in the ambulance that was supposedly cleared by the Israeli forces to go in and rescue her. It is unbearable, even to know this is happening. I can’t imagine how those in Gaza hold onto any hope and humanity.
I also fear for the young soldiers forced into taking part in this obscenity. Even those who feel bound to ‘defend’ their homeland, will have to live with what they have done on the orders of their government.

Sorry, this is really a reply to subsequent comments on the thread, Caleo but I think your question was answered, in terms of how the US and UK are ‘playing it’. The fear of ‘making things worse’ is on everyone’s mind but personally, I think the US, supported by the UK and EU, will have to use their greater strength to force a ceasefire, if one cannot be agreed.

I’ve read that too. I was hoping the poor child had been rescued. Her poor mother spending all the time on the phone trying to comfort her.

Netanyahu said in his speech on Tuesday? that he would continue to restrict aid, because he claimed that most of it is going to Hamas - he didn’t provide evidence for this statement.

I wouldn’t really expect him to if it is classified information.

Well that gives him carte blanche doesn’t it - and he is certainly using it as an excuse to starve the Palestinians.

I wouldn’t trust him no further than I could throw him, and as I couldn’t lift him that is not at all.

Glorianny Sat 10-Feb-24 11:09:11

This is a comprehensive assessment of the destruction of Gaza. No other conflict comes close to the levels inflicted on the Palestinian people. Even if the war ended today most have no home, no hospitals, and no schools to return to .

How anyone can view what is happening as anything less than genocide I don't know?
It's time the UK made a stand and condemned this mistreatment of civilians. Palestinians moved south because Israel told them they would be safe there. They are not safe anywhere.

So, where are the Palestinians to go now that Netanyahu has threatened to reign down terror on Rafah?

There is nowhere left is there?

Apparently they are grinding down animal feed because they are so hungry.

For a real account of what it has been like this nurse from "Doctors without Borders" describes her experiences and how it was the people in Gaza who helped and protected her . edition.cnn.com/videos/world/2023/11/08/american-nurse-gaza-emily-cali-callahan-intv-ac360-vpx.cnn

Thanks for posting that link. A different picture is painted, isn't it?

Following along the same lines, it's also worth noting that the Washington Institute (a pro-Israel think tank) conducted a poll in July 2033 which found that 62% of people in Gaza supported Hamas maintaining a ceasefire with Israel - and 50% of Palestinians agreed that "Hamas should stop calling for Israel's destruction and accept a permanent two-state solution based on the '67 borders."

It means what it says on the tin. You are not coming into my airspace.

Thanks petra!

I didn't think it needed elaboration

There was a lady on ITV breakfast news who had just returned from Gaza after being there in her role as a midwife.

Every piece of equipment or drug they wanted had to be applied for to the Health Department which is run and operated by Hamas for these items to be released from a warehouse…

Yes, that is what you would expect.

Glorianny Fri 09-Feb-24 15:50:42

And if you do I will shoot you down or use the missiles I have to intercept and destroy you.
