I have never seen such a bloody shambles ever!!

This could have been parliaments finest hour, when they came together and showed the world the adults in the room.

Absolute failure.

You are so right Whitewavemark. They have acted like a lot of children who don’t like the way the game is being played and have thrown the board up. The difference being that these are human beings and not counters and they put a chance to protest as one Parliament to one side because of their inability to see or care about the bigger picture rather than their own party politics.

My “oh dear” was for urmspost and bringing Farage into it.

Groaned at the same time as your “Oh! Dear. Farage is the last name I want to hear in this discussion.

"Othering" when applied because of race, religion, gender etc can be illegal, disagreement because of different opinions is not. We should be clear about this and not confuse them.

Yes, that’s very true.

Yes

racism is never acceptable

Absolutely. Never under any circumstances.
I think it is getting worse as Whitewave says. Unfortunately the Israel/Gaza situation has been like a tinder box re racism, but I think it was getting worse before.

As for othering it happens all the time even on GN, the left others the right, pro Brexit others those who wanted to remain, rich other the poor, all the above also happen in reverse…

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Feb-24 07:26:43

Whitewavenark racism is never acceptable.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 23-Feb-24 06:32:40

Both anti-semitism and Islamaphobia have both spiked enormously since October.

We see this and read it everywhere, it is widespread on social media - giving anonymity (including GN) I have family members and neighbours who experience it.

The most surprising people express views that are shocking, divisive and entirely unacceptable.

Othering is a device used by governments and uncritically accepted by the populace. People of colour, people of white origin, and people of faith, people of a different cultural background all suffer.

We are not the civilised nation we like to think we are.

I watched the whole of the debate yesterday and the only person to speak gains a ceasefire was Miriam Cates - she is also being investigated for bringing parliament into disrepute.

Was this because it wasn’t safe to speak against?

maddyone Thu 22-Feb-24 22:51:20

I’m glad you’re back Grany.
You were missed.

maddyone Thu 22-Feb-24 22:50:32

I find this unacceptable, extremely inappropriate and culturally inflammatory

So do I GrannyGravy.

Anniebach Thu 22-Feb-24 22:15:29

They are acknowledging them 😲

Galaxy Thu 22-Feb-24 22:05:51

Crikey the BBC are actually talking about the threats, and the safety issue.

Anniebach Thu 22-Feb-24 21:35:18

I saw a photograph, don’t know how to post it sorry

Glad to see you back Grany you say what you think without ever making any nasty or snide remarks to or about other posters.

Galaxy Thu 22-Feb-24 19:31:01

Yes that will absolutely happen grin.
We have missed you in a bizarre way.

Just to say I don't like Starmer he is a liar like Boris he does what the Isreal lobby want.

Al Jazeera Investigation.

Good to see Labour Files getting richly deserved international recognition. It shed disturbing light on those who now run Labour and may soon run the country. British media silence remains a disgrace.

The Truth Illusion won Gold in the Social Issues category and Silver in Current Affairs category.

A Crowdfund has raised £1000s since Andrew Feinstein has agreed to stand to unseat Starmer in Holborn and St Pancras, where Andrew as lived for 20 years.

Andrew Feinstein, former adviser to Nelson Mandela, is authentic, straightforward and principled. This is why he is so dangerous to Keir Starmer, who has none of these qualities.
I write for Middle East Eye: Peter Oborne

I accept it is unlikely - though not impossible - that he will defeat Starmer come the next election. Starmer won 64.5 percent of the vote in 2019. But I believe he can set the groundwork for a new political party that can set the agenda in the years ahead.

Exactly GG13. All these anger towards the speaker yet this goes unnoticed

GrannyGravy13 Thu 22-Feb-24 18:52:48

It was on the Elizabeth Tower

GrannyGravy13 Thu 22-Feb-24 18:49:59

From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free was projected on to the Houses of Parliament last night on a loop

I wonder who allowed this to happen?

Iam64 Thu 22-Feb-24 18:41:34

I’m planning to watch ch4 news. On what I’ve heard on various radio reports, and read in newspapers,I’ve revised my view on the speaker.
It would be a shame to see him lose his position over this. I believe him and Starmer when they deny Starmer ‘bullied’ him. Hoyle spoke with genuine emotion about the threats he knew were being made to mp’s. He talked about his duty of care influencing his decision, which on reflection he acknowledges was a mistake
Imagine that, a politician acknowledging a mistake and apologising for it\
FWIW I preferred the Labour position over the SNP who along with the govt are making merry over a terrible situatom

westendgirl Thu 22-Feb-24 18:36:28

Exactly, Paperwhite.I saw their London leader baying hysterically on the news.It was definitely a deliberate political move on their part.
