Islamaphobia is getting out of control

We have Braverman and Anderson stirring up the most awful Islamaphobia.

I don’t think that we have ever had British MPs saying such racist and hateful rhetoric since Mosely. They are being backed by the worst sort of editorship. It is so redolent of the 20s and 30s.

Jewish and Christian leaders are calling for it to stop, as well as Tories who see this as a disaster for their party, as it will never ever end well.

Rory Stewart

This idea that “London is in the grip of Islamists” is deluded and it’s awful - an obsession that thrives among a bizarre and dangerous coalition. No conservative MP should ever be spouting this stuff.

WW we can only live in Hope 🤞grin

Savid Javid is furious and is definitely speaking out.

I wonder what Anderson will be doing this time next year? Perhaps he will be existing on 30p meals as I can’t see him getting elected again.

Casdon Sat 24-Feb-24 16:37:26

What’s strange is that there’s been no word from Sunak about this all day, I wonder why?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 24-Feb-24 16:35:46

My question now is - why hasn’t Braverman not suffered similar sanctions?

That's the woman who questions her who says she is a Muslim. She follows Rachel. The other Muslims present do not. There was no "group of women" just one Muslim woman.

Were you there Glorianny? Why was it filmed? Why was the camera solely focussed on Rachel Reeves? How could you see who was behind the woman who asked her the questions?
I forgot, you have hidden powers, one of which is that you have the real facts about everything, unlike we poor fools who just watched what happened and drew our own conclusions.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 24-Feb-24 16:33:57

Anderson lost the Labour whip for racism when he was a councillor.

A real charmer

Glorianny you were not truthful re the video of Rachel Reeves, if as you say the women were canvassing for Rachel
Why ask of their constituency and why the reply ‘I am Muslim,
a tax payer and I live in this country,

Keep refusing to acknowledge the truth

I haven't a clue why the women replied as she did.

However, Reeves was not out of order to ask whether she was a constituent. She told her that she had surgeries for constituents. She doesn't have to reply to people who aren't constituents.

Anniebach Sat 24-Feb-24 16:31:36

If one woman why does she say ‘we want to know’ ‘we sre really concerned’ ‘ we have been trying to see you through the
mosques’

30p Lee has just had the Tory party whip removed. What's the betting he goes over to Reform?

Yes maybe - I think it depends on how the far right of the party reacts. There are people who would support him, like Braverman, Truss, the popcoms etc.

There is a massive civil war going on. I think that the far right of the Tory party have much in common with parties that LePen or Wilders represent.

Probably the best place for him! All Reform will achieve is a split Tory votes especially in strong Tory strongholds.

Anderson has had the whip removed, a good decision.

Only decision that could have been taken.

Anderson has had the whip removed, a good decision.

The decision to sanction Anderson gives the correct message to all those trying to excuse his behaviour.

It is not acceptable.

It is not correct

It shows a degree of ignorance that no political party should find acceptable.

The fact that he felt able to make his comments on GBNews should alarm many bells, when the owner a right wing activist who has made outrageous comments on Twitter is also trying to buy The Telegraph.

No point in trying to find his comments - he has “hidden” them and in quite a few post has deleted them.

How you can’t see from the YouTube film that that was a set up beats me Glorianny.

What does it matter if it was a "set up". Are all the Muslims present harassing Rachel? Or are some of them canvassing for her? It isn't even her inability to answer a question that is important. If all those people had been white and without headscarves do you suppose anyone would have posted "British women followed her"

Casdon Sat 24-Feb-24 15:57:54

That was the only outcome possible.
And a thought provoking piece by Laura Kuennsberg on the threat MPs face.

There's a parliamentary protocol that MPs don't (and shouldn't) respond to general questions from people who aren't constituents.

Fair enough but she was not as has been stated on these threads harassed by a crowd of Muslim women. One woman followed her. If you look carefully you can see many of the others are wearing red badges they were actually canvassing with Rachel.
But they were Muslims, so of course they must have been threatening her musn't they?

Anna Soubry was jostled and shouted at by brexiteers. I don't remember the same outcry about that.

In the street.

Rachel Reeves was canvassing for the Labour Party, a group of women followed her demanding she speak to them, she was working, she asked if they were from her constituency, reply - ‘no, I am a Muslim, a tax payer , I live in this country’

Threats and attacks on politicians have become more commonplace as we all know as are gangs of protestors outside MPs private homes.

It is no wonder politicians don't want to engage with people shouting and demanding they speak to them in the street.

One woman followed her asking her to answer questions. Rachel's answer seemed to be that the woman wasn't a constituent. Interestingly if you watch carefully many of the people standing there (some Muslim women and a possibly Muslim man) are not actually lobbying Rachel. They are there to canvass for her. The woman asking the questions asks them at the end "How can you support her?" A classic example of a group of people all being labelled as something simply because of their appearance. Islamophobia in action

The video upset me, the women followed Rachel down a road
asking ‘do you have a daughter Rachel’ , someone in the group
video it and put it on uTube , so all planned

Being a muslim doesn't mean being a particular race, so how can it be racism?

There is only one race - the human race.

However, it's true that Muslims aren't one nationality.

There is only one race - the human race.

Biologically, yes but sociologically, of course there are different races although some may disagree about classification.
If it were not so, there would be no need for Race Relation Acts.
