BBC reports that Prince William has pulled out of attending Greek funeral for personal reasons… any ideas?

rafichagran Tue 27-Feb-24 18:51:02

This, what business is it of anyone else.

rafichagran Tue 27-Feb-24 18:53:34

Sorry should have had a quote above my post.

Poor chap, he might just have a bad cold.

Then why not say so and nip any speculation in the bud?

Anniebach Tue 27-Feb-24 19:01:54

The OP is a question , people do answer questions

lemsip Tue 27-Feb-24 19:14:28

I believe it to be due to the sudden death of thomas kingston.. a shock, they were same age range and friendship group.

Casdon Tue 27-Feb-24 19:23:48

According to Sky News he died on Sunday. I feel sorry for Lady Gabriella, must have been such a shock.

The death has just been announced today of Lady Gabriella Windsor’s husband, Thomas Kingston, aged just 45.
Perhaps there is a connection?

Oh goodness, how shocking.
Terrible for Gabriella and the family.

I'm inclined to agree.
It was not a public engagement that he missed, either. It was a memorial service for a family member.

Anniebach Tue 27-Feb-24 19:33:54

Yet choose to read and comment

lemsip Tue 27-Feb-24 21:00:51

The 45-year-old, known as Tom, was a close friend of Pippa Middleton, the Princess of Wales’ sister, with the pair seen out and about together on numerous occasions. so he would have been well known to kate and her family as well as william.

Calendargirl Tue 27-Feb-24 21:45:59

Lady Gabriella’s parents, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, still attended though.

lemsip Tue 27-Feb-24 21:55:40

that is because Prince Michael'ss mother was related to King Constantine of greece. she was Princess marina of Greece and married the Duke of Kent brother of King George V1.

Anniebach Tue 27-Feb-24 22:15:06

Prince Philip was also related . So very sad to learn of the death of Thomas Kingston, suppose newspapers will hound friends

If William has gastroenteritis he hardly wants to share the fact with the world!

LadyGracie Wed 28-Feb-24 09:04:44

He could have had an upset stomach, the possibilities are endless.

merlotgran Wed 28-Feb-24 09:17:53

Apparently it was a private family occasion so William doesn’t have to justify his absence but any cloak and dagger stuff from the RF inevitably leads to speculation.

Andrew certainly seized his moment! 😂

Anniebach Wed 28-Feb-24 09:21:02

So much criticism of Andrew , he attended a private memorial
service , Sky news desk horrified, the Palace should have stopped it

It’s not a good look though, Annie. A disgraced royal, grinning like a Cheshire Cat, striding out in the lead….

Curiouser and curiouser.

Bea65 Wed 28-Feb-24 09:36:49

I felt surprised at the short notice of PW not attending his Godfather’s memorial service which has now been reported on
Also, yes it’s his perogative to say for personal reasons but it’s a concern as this is our Royal Family and we care

Should cameras been allowed there ?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 28-Feb-24 09:42:53

It was not a public engagement.

As much as I dislike the alleged incidents which Prince Andrew has been accused of, I see no reason why he shouldn’t go to a private memorial service for a family member.

Grandmaofone Wed 28-Feb-24 09:43:01

Perhaps ? the attendance of Andrew did not sit right with William possibly being overruled by KC, meant he could
not be there?
Who knows.
Prince and Princess Michael showed up.
William conspicuous by his absence.
Surprisingly little journalistic space for Constantine’s widow, Queen Anne-Marie and family.

Yes it was private, but a large gathering of Royalty will always elicit attention, partiularly when led by the bellwether Andrew.

The line between State and Private is a fine one for working Royals, perhaps a dichotomy for William as PoW or Godson.

Either way, numbers 1&2 out of action gave Andrew, as the
next adult in line, a hopefully, unique moment.

Probably the likeliest scenario with three primary school age children.

I think Camilla led the RF at the service. In a very big hat.
