Thankfully there will be a general election before too soon and I hope that Labour will put up a decent candidate who is not an anti semite like their last offering.

So highly unlikely that it is purely a Muslim victory.
It is a wake up call for Starmer and the LP headquarters. Firstly that he has to stop sitting on the fence about Gaza because people in the UK care about innocent people being slaughtered, and secondly that he has to stop interfering in local LP politics and deciding who can stand. I hope he gets both messages,but I very much doubt he will.

According to Wikipedia, the constituency is 29.6% Asian. If even half of those are Muslim it is 14.8% Muslim, not 0.3%.

For the town of Rochdale itself, the ONS says that in the 2021 census 18.8% identified as Muslim.

So it really shouldn’t be surprising that Reform see him as a potential candidate.

This is what happens when people don't bother to vote. However, at the moment, there isn't much of a choice.

I think you've misread the list, Skye17. The percentage figure comes before the name of the religion.

Islam is 18.8% in the town ofRochdale, as both yours and Glorianny's posts state.

Well let's knock that on the head for starters. Pro Palestinian marchers are not marching against Jews. Indeed many of the people on the marches are Jewish. They are demonstrating for a people who have been oppressed for decades who have been imprisoned, killed, raped and are now being murdered by a repressive regime that many Jews despise. And any one who is describing these as anti-Jewish demonstrations. or who is classifying all Jews as agreeing with the state of Israel, is in fact guilty of anti-semitism. Because assuming that all Jews think alike, or that all Jews approve of the mass murder of Palestinians is wrong . And is precisely what anti-semites have always done, dismissed Jews as thinking uniformly, whereas they are as diverse in their thinking as any other group of people.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of Starmer's supposed 'support' for Corbyn, for the situation in Gaza to be resolved the parties involved ultimately will have to talk to each other.

When I looked at the history of the activities of both sides during the 'troubles' in NI what was done was appalling, but in the end it was resolved by talking, not by terror and bloodshed.
