I agree with this statement. There sometimes seems to be, on these threads, an inability to understand that Jewish people are individuals, with differing opinions on all sort of matters.

Yes it has been clear since Oct that there is very little understanding on these threads of the myriad opinions amongst the Jewish community. As an example my Jewish friends totally disagree with Netanyahu, would never consider seeing Israel as home and are devastated at both what happened at the music festival and since in Palestine.

What I would like to say is that as much as I abhor Galloway and his politics, I think that Sunak is wrong to suggest that democracy is under threat and juxtaposing Galloway’ win in the bye election. We might not like it but it is democracy in action.

Sunak of course was never voted in so I think that he is on dodgy ground when he talks about threats to democracy.

You do realise we vote for a party, not a PM. If a PM resigns, during said party tenure, then another is chosen by the Party, not the public. We have never voted for a PM.
Brown was handed the reignsby Blair without even MPs voting.
As for Democracy,Parliamentary rules were followed.

Re Galloway. He is not an MP but a self publicist. Sitting him down to listen to your tales of woe about Rochdale's problems will not be easy. He will not be there.

Invite him to give a talk on his view on Gaza and he might be, if the cameras are there….

I really don’t believe Galloway’s ‘ rhetorical skills’ will leave Sunak or Starmer squirming. They’re both more than capable of dealing with the snake potion salesman. I wish he’d not won the election. He’s a firebrand who sells his soul to psychopathic leaders. He is not and I don’t believe he ever will be a peacemaker. Yuk

Once Galloway has secured a ceasefire in Gaza, perhaps he can turn his attention to the total lack of women's rights under Hamas. Women in Palestine live under strictly enforced Sharia Law administered and determined by Hamas. They are some of the most repressed and under represented women in the whole of the Middle East.

I could give a list of examples but these include marital rape and rape in general, the inability to receive an inheritance, inability to divorce without paying your husband (which basically means you can't). The situation is heartbreaking and appalling.

If any good comes out of this situation, it will be a free Palestine in every sense of the word.

He's just an attention-seeker intent on self-aggrandisement. He's not interested in the people of Rochdale, just in promoting himself; there's nothing substantial about him.

How they feel about Gaza IMO is not a factor that should be deciding who represents a constituency in Britain.
Perhaps we should be like Australia, everyone has to vote there.

Sorry where is your information from? Most sources say Palestinian law is a complicated mix of Ottoman law, British Law, Sharia law and other components. And there are many brave and outspoken Palestinian women.

Galloway could no more secure a peace in Gaza than I could! He has no intention of doing anything except being divisive. He's good at that. If you look at his past record there's no way you could support him. As for him furthering women's right... The man is on record saying the most vile things about women.

There are many brave, outspoken women in Iran as well but that doesn’t mean they aren’t oppressed

Totally agree Glorianny There's enough misinformation around without adding to it. the "marry your rapist" law was repealed in 2018 and not a moment too soon although whether it was in use is questionable!

I think that Gaza is in some ways just a measure of how far the LP has moved away from its ideals. There was a time when the LP stood for human rights and its MPs were outspoken about war and the arms trade. Think of how many voted against the Iraq war. Sadly that no longer happens and Galloway becomes the only option.

Or to put it another way, the Labour Party has matured, and is better at handling the nuances of human rights issues than it was in the past, now preferring conciliation to partisan approaches. Those who prefer the Galloway approach will no doubt have an opportunity to vote for others of the same ilk, I doubt that they will be heavily supported.

Glorianny, I believe most people can see that protecting human rights is indeed nuanced. People who see the world in black and white like yourself are in the minority.
