I’m surprised but delighted! A man after my own heart. He said ‘I just want my country back’.

Do you mean the intelligent people who keep marvelling at how thick people are and then are surprised when votes dont work out in the way they expected - Trump, Brexit, etc.

If it wasn't racist why did GN delete it then 🤔

Do you understand how these sites work?

I doubt GNHQ has the capacity to read every single post, and
there are algorithms designed to detect racist terminology because GNHQ don't have someone sitting there combing through them, so they install an AI 'scanner'.

If I use a racist insult, it will be singled out and the post automatically deleted.

But the AI isn't sensitive to context, so it doesn't scan and 'say', "oh, hang on a minute, this poster wasn't being racist, she was just attempting to remind us of the awful insults that racists actually do hurl at people".

Or - someone reported the post and GNHQ deleted it because the word is offensive, and they are duty-bound to remove it.

So that is why it was removed.

Not because Iam64 is racist. That, she most certainly is not.

I would be astounded if GN are using AI, they arent usually at the cutting edge of tech, and I say that with fondness smile

It will be some type of algorithm much like the ones used on neighbour sites like “Next Door”

Galaxy Tue 12-Mar-24 17:49:48

Crikey maybe I am wrong and they use AI and it's gone rogue.

Nicenanny3 Tue 12-Mar-24 18:01:05

No thank you I've seen your posts calling Lee Anderson a thug.

Nicenanny3 Tue 12-Mar-24 18:02:25

My post was to 17:16TinSoldier. The quote facility doesn't seem to work.

TinSoldier Tue 12-Mar-24 18:03:36

I may be mistaken but I think Iam64's deleted post has been reinstated - on page 7.

MaizieD's post just above it remains deleted when all I think she questioned was OP's grasp of history about slavery or wtte.

I can guess - and who was responsible.

He is. I'm familar with his well-documented behaviour. The Michael Crick documentary is a good example of how dishonest he is but I acknowledge you using this as excuse not to debate the Reform UK Emergency Health and Social Care Plan or any of its other policies.

Galaxy Tue 12-Mar-24 18:12:32

As far as I understand it, moderation is via reporting. So I am pretty sure it is reporting that is happening. If it was tech led then other comments on this thread would have been deleted. 'You sound like a silly schoolgirl' is a personal attack under the guidelines but it hasnt been removed because people havent reported it.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 12-Mar-24 18:14:26

I doubt anyone will be willing to engage in debate (as we know it) of any of Reform’s ‘policies’. It’s difficult to engage in meaningful debate about anything which is nothing more than a headline. For debate, one needs substance.

TinSoldier Tue 12-Mar-24 18:18:34

I agree and it isn't going to happen as, from what I have read so far in this discussion, the protagonists are only interested in one issue whereas government is about so much more.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 12-Mar-24 18:24:27

I agree.

I understood from what one of the mods who came onto a thread last year said, that when a post is reported they took a look at it and then decided if it should be deleted or not. That they rely on posters to do this, so no algorithm or other AI.

Thanks TinSoldier - yes my post is reinstated with the offending word now set as P* - which is what I’d have asked gransnet mods to do if any poster had asked me not to use the offensive word as it was often used during the ~Brexit campaign.
I don’t know why Maizie or GSM have been deleted.
It begins to feel personal. That’s against guidelines. As is referring to other posters as behaving like school girls.
Pathetic.

... well, I did wonder, but know that there are some not-very-sophisticated algorithms around (MSN use them) - does GNHQ totally rely on posts being reported?

Because I'm sure no-one is trawling through them otherwise!

OK! No algorithms - so it was a reported post.

I’m such a silly girl it didn’t occur to me to report it! I also don’t really care what SOME people on this thread think of me, it’s water off a ducks back grin 🦆

Cossy Tue 12-Mar-24 19:39:44

You are completely correct Iam64 it’s utterly pathetic!

GSM no prizes for guessing who!

Hear, hear.

I think I'd even vote Conservative if they came up with a leader and cabinet dedicated to being honourable and truthful, focused on the needs of the nation as a whole (that wouldn't be easy, I admit), and stopped the populist, dog-whistle politicking.

... even if I didn't necessarily agree with all their policies - integrity counts for a lot these days. It seems so rare now...

That kind of "AI" which isolates single words in social media posts has existed for decades. Essex County Council installed it in its schools' networks. "Sex" was identified as a banned word, even when it existed as part of a word. Unfortunately, it mean that anything with "Essex" was banned, which was inconvenient, to say the least.
