I’m surprised but delighted! A man after my own heart. He said ‘I just want my country back’.

Urmstongran Tue 12-Mar-24 15:52:55

I remember years ago a poster who came onto some thread or other and told us they very rarely posted but often reported. As though it were a badge of honour.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 12-Mar-24 15:55:45

You are not a racist Iam, nor was your post racist. The word was used in a particular context. The mods should have been able to understand that. Someone has reported and doesn’t have the courage to own up.

Who knows indeed, Nicenanny.

Callistemon21 Tue 12-Mar-24 15:55:52

Iam64

Thank you Callistemon. I hope I’m not seen as racist.

We know you are not, Iam64.

It is context that is important and we who know you understood the context.

Exactly, Callistemon. You are certainly not seen as a racist Iam. I understood precisely where you were coming from, quoting the language of the time. Obviously someone failed to grasp that.

The irony of those 'wanting my country back' reporting someone for alleged use of racist language is exquisite.

I think we have an idea who is was.

And who it wasn't.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 12-Mar-24 16:00:25

Yes.

I googled Reform’s ‘manifesto’ - someone said it resembled a primary school project. If I were the school teacher I would be running out of red ink pointing out the grammatical and other errors. I stopped reading after just one page. Dreadful.

Oh, Germanshepherdsmum you're not allowed to now! Using too much red ink and pointing out spelling and grammatical errors inhibits their imagination.

If it wasn't racist why did GN delete it then 🤔

Just give it a rest, for pity’s sake! Also, not sure your current name really does you justice!

I have no idea.

Oh dear, Callistemon. I still inhabit the days of red ink and ‘See me’. I will change what I said - if I were a bank manager and they were applying for a loan on the back of a business plan like that I’d show them the door.

Callistemon21 Tue 12-Mar-24 16:35:10

grin
Well, they're going to need a very large loan to bring NHS waiting lists down to zero in two years.

In fact, zero is not a good idea because most people wouldn't manage to get to the appointment in time.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 12-Mar-24 16:51:40

If they were in power so many people would have slit their throats that there would be nobody on the waiting lists, few entitled to pensions or benefits …

Well I'll post my quote again from WW11 "When you start taking flax you know you're over the target". Why are some posters on here so up in arms about things if they think in their words Reform UKs manifesto is no good and they have no chance of getting into power or at least gaining some seats why are they so bothered. Or are you secretly worried about them taking seats from the Tories or splitting the Tory vote that's it I think.

foxie48 Tue 12-Mar-24 17:10:59

I think the thing I really hate about populist politics is it is designed to take advantage of ignorance and that feels very wrong to me. It's all words with nothing behind those words just like Reform's manifesto.

TinSoldier Tue 12-Mar-24 17:11:50

It’s going to be done by exempting all medical staff from basic rate tax for three years so they will all want to work longer hours in gratitute -assuming they aren't already on their knees with exhaustion - and others will want to come flocking, or flocking back to the NHS to look after the people who are having all these operations over two years. No mention of training or bed numbers or operating theatres.

And its all going to be financed by … wait for it … Corona bonds ... which don’t exist! They were an EU proposal to issue collective debt among member states to combat the economic impact of the coronavirus.

Ironic coming from the former Brexit Party.

I’m still waiting for the fervent Reform fans to come and explain all this to us or indeed to talk about anything else other than immigration.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 12-Mar-24 17:16:05

Oh I didn't say that the manifesto was " no good". I said it was poorly written, not costed, and not supported by any data.
It may well be very popular.

I don’t think anyone has made a secret of anything and I think most of us think they will split the story vote.

Maybe it’s just that many of feel that we don’t wish for even more dubious political figures, especially those who feature highly in the media, than we already have.

I don’t think many of us believe Reform UK will EVER be in power or that they’ll exactly get many MPs. But time will tell!

That's a ridiculous argument.

I am inviting you to discuss the Reform Party policies particularly the Emergency Health and Social Care Plan because that is one of the things you will be voting for.

Cossy Tue 12-Mar-24 17:16:42

Siope Tue 12-Mar-24 17:22:51

Even more ludicrous: a large part of its NHS recovery plan is that the private sector will perform an 3 million additional NHS-contracted operations in 2 years. No mention of where the capacity for that might come from, and astoundingly, they have confused the private healthcare sector with a charity, and expect it to charge the NHS just £3,000 per operation.

TinSoldier Tue 12-Mar-24 17:27:59

Yes, Siope. The "Bold Plan": says:

More private healthcare use by NHS in UK and overseas.

What does that mean?
