I’m surprised but delighted! A man after my own heart. He said ‘I just want my country back’.

One more step and he will be back in the Labour party.

Exactly, Callistemon. You are certainly not seen as a racist Iam. I understood precisely where you were coming from, quoting the language of the time. Obviously someone failed to grasp that.

The irony of those 'wanting my country back' reporting someone for alleged use of racist language is exquisite.

Just to clarify (FWIW) I have never reported anyone, ever. I knew what you meant Iam and you don’t have a racist bone in your body. Same here. I just don’t like extremism nutters (polite term) of any stripe.

Iam64 Tue 12-Mar-24 12:36:42

Thank you Callistemon. I hope I’m not seen as racist.

Thanks nicenanny for reminding me about my deleted comment.
My comment set out my wish that our history be taught well. I referred to some Brexit voters in my northern, former mill town believing leaving the EU would put an end to the numbers of immigrants of Pakistani Muslim heritage coming here. These racists clearly had no understanding or acceptance of the impact of empire or the fact these skilled cotton workers were invited here in the 50’s and 60’s because we needed their skills.
I apologise for using the derogatory word used by racists to denigrate these people. I can only assume that led to me being reported.

Iam64 used a particularly nasty racist word for a Pakistani I'm not surprised it was deleted.

Yes, but she did not mean it in a derogatory way herself, she was quoting the type of racist rhetoric used by some people.

Perhaps a mistake as it will have been seized on by some who do not understand the context.

Do any of you Reform supporters have direct experience of the situations you are talking about? Any of you been shoved by an angry Islamic mob? Any of you been denied housing at the expense of a 'bogus' asylum seeker? Any of you been to a council meeting and seen it taken over by Muslims? Or is this just stuff you have been told by that nice Mr Tice?

Maybe I live in a bubble, but despite several recent visits to London, family and friends working there (live in a commuter area), DS & DiL living there, despite having a university with many overseas funded students here, DH attending council meetings in his role as Parish Councillor........I have never felt unsafe, never felt 'outnumbered', whatever that is. The only self imposed 'restriction' is keeping out of the town centre on a Saturday night due to the loud drunken behaviour.

It casual "misinterpreted" comments like that which are the reason racism is perpetuated.

rather like being told, when offended by a vulgar or gross comment, that it is 'only banter' and that the fault lies with the offended party.

Nicenanny3 Tue 12-Mar-24 12:03:58

I've just seen Iam64 post has been deleted although Growstuff repeated it, yes racist comments need to be deleted.

Getting a grip on immigration has nothing to do with the form of racist and othering comments we are seeing on this thread.

Conflating the two is typical of racist rhetoric.

Surely if there are racist comments here they will have been reported and deleted the only post to my knowledge that was deleted was by MaisieD.

My deleted post was questioning Ug's tenuous grip of 'our proud history'. Nothing at all racist about that.

I don't think that Iam64's deleted post had anything to do with racism, either.

It's very strange that some people can post ignorant twaddle and be immune to challenge...

For 'free speech' lovers there are some very sensitive souls on here..

Actually Casdon I think Reform are polling nearer to 13% - higher than the Lib Dems at present. They seem to be taking a dive. And Brexit? Pah! With an 80 seat majority to ‘get it done’ the government should have hit the ground running. They didn’t. Hence my comment about a ‘squandered vote’.

This is the latest poll I could find specifically for Red Wall areas.

I live in a " red wall area". Lots of investment in green energy for starters. Funny I never get asked to poll or take part, neither have my friends. Short memories of the mess the last Labour Council got us in. Took 4 years to clear it up.

One poll may be inaccurate, but repeated polls by different companies with different people taking part, over a period of time, do tend to be accurate however. It’s not about who we know, because we often mix with other people who reinforce our own beliefs, it’s generic, across all age groups and political persuasions.

From the Telegraph today:

“… getting a grip on immigration is not an extreme policy but a promise on which this Government was elected. Unless it starts to deliver the controls that people expect and does so soon, the advance of Reform will be hard to hold back.“

In one.

Correct Urmstongran, I'm fed up with the far left trope calling everyone racist if they are concerned about immigration legal and illegal, honest hardworking people have genuine concerns and for the record I have mixed race grandchildren Indian and Asian who were born in this country.

GB News live just a few minutes ago.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 12-Mar-24 11:21:41

Perhaps you could give a link to your ‘breaking news’. There is another thread about allegations of BJ taking over from Rishi - ridiculous.

Nicenanny3 Tue 12-Mar-24 11:16:27

Breaking news Boris Johnson staging a come back to keep the Red Wall seats just seen on GB News 😂 don't bother Boris you squandered those votes. Vote Reform UK

Whitewavemark2 Tue 12-Mar-24 11:14:30

Your rhetoric is right out of the racist playbook - we are all more than aware of this form of othering.

It is despicable and nothing to do with reality.
