I think Trump will win so fasten your seatbelts! For reasons best known to themselves the Democrats haven’t replaced Biden and Trump must be rubbing his hands in glee.

I’m not a supporter but I won money on him last time and lt looks like the same will happen again.

There really should be an upper age limit for political leaders. I'm all for elder statesmen, they bring wisdom and experience, but don't think they should be able to hold the "top job".

I was thinking 65 but maybe 70 for the age limit at inception. We would be accused of ageism, though. Most people think the Democrats would win if they had a half decent candidate so I wonder what is going on behind the scenes. My theory is that Biden is a puppet of someone who is actually in control. The question is, who ?

maddyone Sat 16-Mar-24 00:35:00

Oh please NO. But Biden’s too old so not a great alternative.
350 million people and those are the two America comes up with.

Syracute Sat 16-Mar-24 02:25:57

This idea of Biden being someone’s puppet is straight from the ultra right wacko playbook ! Sure he has a team that he works with but that’s how it works ! If you took the time to watch his most recent speech, I think you will see he is more than capable .

Yes

Oh please. The throwing around of the word far right is one of the reasons Trump will probably win. It's been rendered utterly meaningless.

Curtaintwitcher Sat 16-Mar-24 06:53:17

American politics is much more complicated than ours. It does seem strange that the country has ended up with these two oldies, almost as though it was intentional.
At least there is no sign of Hillary Clinton....it was very satisfying watching her lose after she took it for granted she would be the first woman president.

Urmstongran Sat 16-Mar-24 09:09:08

After she called Trump supporters “a basket of deplorables” I think she caused a vote surge for the Republican Party!

flump Sat 16-Mar-24 10:38:13

From The Concise Oxford Dictionary; deplorable = deserving strong condemnation; shockingly bad.

Don't see how that's far from the truth.

Of course, that does depend on what "truth" one believes!

But calling a whole swathe of Americans a basket of deplorables wasn't going to go down well, was it?

It wasn't the smartest thing to say.

flump Sat 16-Mar-24 11:01:48

Probably not. However, if anyone has seen Trumpists being interviewed, they don't seem to be the most erudite or intelligent people on the planet. They believe falsehoods and lies promulgated by the right-wing media. This is shockingly bad and rather sad.

nanna8 Sat 16-Mar-24 11:39:35

I’ve been called many things in my life but never, ever ‘far right’ before. I must stop voting Labor immediately, wouldn’t want to disappoint. Oh, and the time I went for the socialist candidate must have been a complete and utter mistake. No, I really do think there are unknown people behind Biden. He is not capable of leading on his own. Wake up for goodness sake!

I'm not disagreeing but then calling other voters (and there are a lot) by such a name doesn't seem erudite or display much intelligence either.
Of course, the rumours about the Clintons seem to be somehow suppressed.

I’m watching Trump on twitter, and it is all getting a tad worrying.

He is talking about there being a blood bath in the event of him losing and the latest footage shows him standing to the USA national anthem and saluting the 6January “hostages”

I hope the courts get to grip with him before he causes a major insurrection - because that is what it is beginning to look like.

nanna8 Sun 17-Mar-24 12:30:42

He is very dangerous, not a good time for American politics. I really think he’s going to win and the US will pursue isolationist policies, God help us all.

nanna8 Sun 17-Mar-24 12:32:16

Please don’t underestimate his supporters. They are not thick, they know exactly what they are doing.

foxie48 Sun 17-Mar-24 12:45:00

WWM2 is he on Twitter or is it Truth Social? The BBC is saying he's not used X since he was allowed back on.

Ummm, no they don’t . They just get riled up by Fox News and other right wing outlets. They have a series of right wing tropes they like to repeat . None of which makes sense .

I honestly find that quite alarming. But what is even more frightening is that people cannot see that the man is basically suggesting that he, and only he, has the right to become President. And at the same time, ensuring his supporters are whipped up into a frenzy at the mere prospect of him losing. Some have even said that they believe he is God's choice!

Him and his bloody ego - his massive, massive ego, that has to be pandered to all the time, is probably going to hold the most powerful position in the world. He cannot even handle the tiniest bit of criticism without getting into a rage and posting on Truth Social sometimes during the middle of the night. These are not the reactions of a stable personality, he's unhinged - to put it in non-scientific terms.

And this is the nation that we are going to form stronger ties with, forge a trade-deal (ha!) with because we didn't want to be told what to do by 'Bwussels' - does anyone seriously believe that America will, under Trump, focus on the needs and requirements of the UK, as opposed to its own 'America first' in any deal? America will say "jump" and we'll ask "how high"? So much for our sovereignty - which we ditched the EU to 're-gain'!

Well I haven’t noticed, but it if it isn’t him, it will be either a supporter or the Biden camp making a point.

Several people are posting what POTUS Trump has reportedly said at his most recent rally.

He himself has not posted on Twitter X since 2021 other than to post his police mugshot 25/08/2023

He does talk about bloodshed some are attributing it to if he loses, others are attributing it to a^ bloodbath in the car industry^ if POTUS Biden wins and pushes the green agenda.

foxie48 Sun 17-Mar-24 16:12:20

Trump was speaking at a campaign rally in Ohio, got totally confused and talked rather a lot of incoherent rubbish. It is so worrying. He's totally unfit to POTUS. Below is taken from the Guardian report.
"At other times during an often wild 90-minute address, Trump tossed out personal insults at political opponents. He called Biden “stupid” several times; made a vulgar reference to the first name of Fani Willis, the Georgia prosecutor in his criminal case for trying to overturn his 2020 election defeat; called Democratic California governor Gavin Newsom “new-scum”; and attacked the personal appearance of JB Pritzker, the governor of Illinois, the New York Times reported."

Whitewavemark2 Sun 17-Mar-24 16:39:24

His Incoherent rubbish seems to be getting worse.
