News flash just now but she says she feels really well and she looks it.

Starting chemo soon. The abdominal surgery found cancer.

I'm so sorry that your daughter has cancer , Calypso - may she recover .
I'm sad for you Pinkprincess and I hope that you get well too .

I'm really shocked that The Princess of Wales has cancer .
I wondered what her surgery was for and concluded that it was her private business .
I hated the invasion of her privacy and absurd reaction to that photograph -she's a young mother with a family , frightened and putting a brave face on it and hoping
that she sees her children grow up .
I'm saying a prayer for her and one for you Calypso and one for you Pinkprincess .

I'm ashamed of how our American press handled the ridiculous conspiracies. Comedians poking fun at them, it was absolutely cruel.
How heartbreaking that she should have to make a public statement regarding her health, that every soul has a right to keep private.
When I was diagnosed with cancer I was not even sure I wanted to tell my family. It's hard to wrap your head around and it takes time to absorb it and make sensible treatment choices.
May Princess Kate heal quickly and have a long and wonderful life.

Wishing her a complete recovery. I felt very moved by her quiet dignity yesterday, feeling that she had been forced into making a statement whilst recovering to quel all the swirling rumours. Very hard for both Catherine and William dealing with her illness, endless speculation and trolling whilst simultaneously trying to reassure and shield their children.

flowersflowersflowers to Calipso, Bluebelle and silverlining.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Kate’s cancer but this sounds like preventative treatment. I certainly hope all those vicious horrible trolls out there will shut up now. Love to her and her family and others suffering with cancer and other ailments.

Calipso, Pink Princess and Katy1949 I send you my very best wishes, also anyone else in similar circumstances.💐

Let's hope all the mentally deranged conspiracy theorists and those who feel they have a right to know the intimate details of her health will all crawl back under their stones. I hope they feel shame for the unacceptable speculation that must have caused her and her family so much upset but I doubt it. There will be some who think yesterday's announcement is another cover-up.

If you'd just paused for breath before posting you might have got the facts right. She started chemo last month.

That comment wasn't really necessary, was it? This is not about point scoring off other GNetters; this is about a young woman who has discovered she has cancer and our reactions to that.

RosiesMaw

"You are not alone"
Brave words from a courageous and caring young woman thinking of all those in her situation.
I am reminded of Queen Elizabeth's message to the country during Covid "We will meet again".

Watching Catherine inform the world about her cancer diagnosis reminded me of the Queen as well, RosiesMaw. Especially that calm, positive speech to the nation during the covid period

What an impressive young woman Catherine is

Unfortunately, the Royal Family are not afforded the right to privacy. I think it took a toll on Catherine's well being to make that video because she looked and sounded frail. The late Queen's trademark was to put duty above all else in a seemingly selfless manner. The public now has to get used to a Royal Family who put family first. It is right that the Wales parents wanted to break the news to their children in private before the start of the media frenzy so now that the truth is out Catherine and the King should be left in peace to recover from their treatments.

Well they've certainly gone very quiet on gransnet haven't they, which is odd because they had such a lot to say earlier this month. Not a peep out of them since their sly, mendacious innuendos about William and Catherine's absence. Perhaps they're still under their rocks? hmm

I’ve now watched Catherine’s statement. What dignity, warmth and emotional intelligence she continues to show, even at this most difficult time.
As with other posters, my children and grandchildren are similar ages to Catherine, her husband and children. So young to be dealing with such difficult issues, and with pressure from the media. In their friendship group, they also have friends in cancer treatment. Again, young, fit, healthy people with unexpected devastating diagnosis.
🙏🏽

These are exactly my thoughts. I totally agree with Iam.
My own children and grandchildren are also similar ages and it is heartbreaking to think it could be them, and heartbreaking that Catherine has had all of this to deal with, with so much media speculation. The furore over the photograph was ridiculous and cruel. Apparently many journalists are now hanging their heads in shame, and I hope all the ones in America are ashamed too, because I believe much of the worst press has come from there. Owen Jones has apparently apologised for whatever it is he has said, I don’t know what that is as I don’t read his articles or do Twitter, but if he feels the need to apologise then whatever he has said must be bad.
I wish Catherine and William, and her family, especially her parents who must be beside themselves, all the best, and a complete recovery for Catherine.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 23-Mar-24 09:11:20

I had a tear in my eye watching the Princess of Wales, so calm and full of poise.

I hope the vultures will now stop circling, the family needs time to process the diagnosis and heal.

Joseann Sat 23-Mar-24 09:18:20

Really, PuddyCat, as someone has just said here, this is not the time to be point scoring off other GNetters. I have led the way to an apology on another thread about my silly jokey comments on the actual photo (without the dog) or William's tummy bug (which I regret suggesting). I feel rather ashamed.
Some people may have more to apologise for than others. Those gossiping more slyly about William's affairs and Catherine's work shyness will no doubt check their own consciences.
I hope this brave family will be left alone by all now. They must be devastated and I too include Catherine's parents and siblings in my best wishes.

Iam64 Sat 23-Mar-24 09:28:35

Well said Joseann, point scoring, smug sneers are the last thing needed

PuddyCat Sat 23-Mar-24 09:36:58

It wasn't the time to be making snide and spurious suggestions as to the reasons for Catherine's absence when she'd already begged for privacy. The only difference now is your embarrassment.

Gossamerbeynon1945 Sat 23-Mar-24 09:41:20

How sad. I wish her a speedy and complete recovery.

And I for one hope they stay there!

JenniferEccles Sat 23-Mar-24 09:55:14

I think the final straw for poor Catherine must have been discovering that some members of staff at the London Clinic had been trying to access her private records.
Suddenly, she wasn’t just trying to ignore hurtful media speculation, but was facing the real risk that full details of her health were about to be leaked.

I hope the hospital staff involved have been dealt with properly.

Kate1949 Sat 23-Mar-24 10:01:16

I never understood the conspiracy theories. Why on earth would she disappear from the public eye unless there was something very, very wrong? Maybe these people are lucky enough to never experienced serious illness in their families.

Kim19 Sat 23-Mar-24 10:36:09

I think the most caring and respectful thing would be if threads like this didn't exist.

I’m not embarrassed. I didn’t make conspiracy posts and my desire for Catherine to get well, be given privacy and properly protected by her team hasn’t changed.

I think the most caring and respectful thing would be if threads like this didn't exist.

I've asked if some of the other threads with uncalled for nasty posts be removed.

I think it would be better if they were deleted in light of this news but GNHQ must not agree as they are still there.

There cannot be many of us whose lives have not been changed by cancer, most of us have great empathy with what they are going through.

This is a family coping with even more devastating news
I feel quite ashamed to belong to a forum which thinks those threads should remain up.

lemsip Sat 23-Mar-24 10:48:59

i have asked for this thread to be deleted out of respect for Catherine and William.

in my report I stated that I don't suppose it will be. maybe others with any feeling should ask the same.

It's the other threads which concern me lemsip.

I'm surprised GNHQ has not acted swiftly to delete them.
