Well pigeons, cat and among , but with reference to the particular examples she instances I am team JK.
Scotland is digging a massive hole for itself with regard to so-called “hate crime” and if it wasn’t that 1984 was 40 years ago I’d say it had arrived.

Sorry that should be Glorianny

^What a pity a woman should choose to denigrate a law aimed at protecting far more than trans issues. The protected classes as defined in the law include age, disability, religion, sexual orientation and transgender identity. So it protects many of us.
Instead she focuses on her own obsessions. Let's not forget those who have been the victims of the feelings and hatred stirred up by similar ideas, like Brianna Grey. Protection against hatred is something we all deserve.^

Glorianna 👏👏👏

???

How would private conversations in the privacy of your home be known about by anyone other than those involved in them?

I assume somebody privy to the conversation could report you. Let's say you invite neighbours round for drinks, you've known them for years and think you're on the same page about most things. But how well do you really know anyone?

It could happen and did happen in Nazi Germany.

Glorianny Tue 02-Apr-24 19:45:31

I doubt if it will be applied anyway. Inciting racial hatred is a crime, but Frank Hester said the most appalling things about Dianne Abbot and got away with it.

Well, I suppose if you had a group there for a meeting and someone took offence at what you said, they just might report you.

I really have heard it all now, Aveline. 😯

Now you mention it, I'm sure I read some time ago that this had in fact happened. Of course, it might have been one of those myths that circulate on social media.

I do hope the Senedd doesn't think it's a good idea and follow suit.

Me too. Surely they have more sense? 🤔

I'm always amazed how governments who sign up to such draconian measures describe themselves as "progressive", emulating the hallmarks of totalitarian regimes is shamefully regressive.

That's the inherent paradox in this whole issue. Trans activists and so-called 'allies' pretend that they are liberal and inclusive, when in fact they exclude and discriminate against anyone who says things they don't like, even when they are clearly true.

Another member of team JKR here.
She represents sanity and common sense, in my opinion.

Scottish police say that they're not prosecuting her. She's obviously a wealthy and prominent figure. However, she's also said that if any other more ordinary (not her word)woman was picked on under this new law she'd fund their legal case. She is such a tremendous relief to us Scottish women.

she's also said that if any other more ordinary (not her word) woman was picked on under this new law she'd fund their legal case.

I love the fact she said that.

Team JKR all the way.

JKR has played a blinder, hasn’t she? 🙌 If they go after the ‘woman in the street’ for stating that transwomen are men, not only has JKR said she’ll repeat the words so she can be arrested too, the police/govt can also be accused of going after only the ‘small’ people while the rich and famous are exempt.

I’m not one given to be all starry-eyed over celebs but I am definitely one of JKR’s fan girls today! 💖💖💖💖💖

Quite.

That is why I cant see how she will be let off on this.

I'm with JKR too. I think a very telling aspect of this law is the total rejection of including misogyny. Would that be because they'd have to spell out it would apply to biological women abused and demeaned on the grounds of their biological sex and not some inner feeling? Why promise us a separate bill at 'some time in the future'? When would that be, the 12th of never?

... good point Rosie51.

I suspect the separate bill will take time whilst they work on on ways to get around the thorny problem of having to recognise that misogyny is a crime committed against biological women by biological men.

Of course, there are also women with misogynistic traits, but that is a separate issue with a different dynamic. And such women do not usually sexually or physically abuse other women.

I'm full of admiration for JKR - she is prepared to stand up and be counted when she could just as easily lead a quiet and peaceful life. She will be challenged and receive the usual glut of hate mail.

If someone commits a crime against another based on the fact that they are, in some way, 'different', then that is, basically, a crime-of-hate, regardless. If we are to go down the rocky road of singling out various "others" to be protected, then women have got to be included - and, in fact, so have men if the crime against them is committed because they are a man.

It seems like all 'characteristics' are now protected - except that of being a biological woman.

Paul Embery on Twitter says this (and it's bang on):

"She commendably used her status and influence to throw a protective shield around those who might prove easier pickings for police and politicians. She was effectively saying, "If they don't some for me, thay cannot come for any of us."

"us" of course is anyone who speaks the truth that you can't change sex.

Should have said, Labour are also mulling this type of law, as if there isn't any already in our statute books.

the 2nd reason[cant remember the first] not to vote Labour in my opinion.

Absolutely.

Could she get proecuted another way? Private prosecution for instance?

Personally, cant see how she will be left alone on this.
I could be utterly wrong.
