I m not sympathetic if you mean me tickingbird all I m saying is there appeared not to be enough proof to convict him I don’t know if he was good or bad did the deed or didn’t do it and it seems nor did the professionals know or else he would have been behind bars for life
He may well have been a thoroughly nasty piece of goods I didn’t know him though I can’t judge we can only go by the courts decisions surely

I saw that on the news this morning, and my thoughts were that he has met his maker and the ultimate judge. Not that I am very religious , but I do believe in some form of afterlife or karma.

Yes, there was sufficient proof but the prosecution was not robust and there could have been a reluctance to find someone who was such a famous sporting icon guilty.

It appeared the jury believed Mr. Simpson had been framed by racist police. If I recall correctly, the jury was mostly black - they reached the verdict.

Norah , radio 4 earlier described the criminal trial jury as largely black and the civil jury as largely white

Interesting.

Deeply divided country. My brother never told me that bit (or I never asked).

Iam64 Thu 11-Apr-24 20:18:23

It is. I e only visited once, and then Boston, Mass, NYC and Washington. Liberal by U S standards. I was surprised that the legacies of slavery were so evident - naive of me

tickingbird Thu 11-Apr-24 21:13:17

You are absolutely right Norah.

It wasn’t down to professionals BlueBelle, the jury, mostly black, found him not guilty. It’s common knowledge he got away with murder and the victims’ parents took out a civil case against him and he was found guilty and ordered to pay millions but I don’t believe they received much, if any, of it.

The evidence is listed in my link above.
I am sure it can be checked if anyone wants to do so.

There was a car chase. I had been in a bookstore that was empty except for the clerks, trying to find a book on classical history for my father. I went to buy it and the clerk said "Do you know where he is?" I had no idea what she was talking about. I must have been one of the three or four people in LA who wasn't watching the chase on TV. So she explained. I had to go under a freeway on my way home, and as I approached it I saw a lot of helicopters slowly moving along it. That's him, I realized. They're following his Ford Bronco or whatever it was, and he's going to be right above me as I go through the underpass. It was too late to avoid going under the freeway, and I kept thinking "Don't shoot, OJ, don't shoot . . . "

The whole city was caught up in it all. Months later a friend from England was visiting and wanted to go by his house, which was completely impossible because the police had it blocked of. They couldn't block off the place where his wife and her friend were murdered--it's on a very busy street. It was all tremendously sad.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

My thoughts exactly. I remember I was laid up from an operation and watching the case on television. I think there’s no doubt at all he was guilty.

mae13 Fri 12-Apr-24 05:38:07

He, literally, led the police a merry dance chasing him as it was filmed live.

Hardly the action of an "innocent" person. A wrong'un who shielded himself with his celebrity.

Greta Fri 12-Apr-24 06:49:12

I was surprised how much air time was given to this yesterday.

Anniebach Fri 12-Apr-24 09:20:41

Still covered by BBC, they didn’t report the riot in London this
week

Cossy Fri 12-Apr-24 10:06:22

I am thinking of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman today.

Me too! I personally do not agree he was innocent, didn’t he subsequently commit another crime and “go down” for it?

Yes, much more important to us surely, than the death of a convicted criminal. There's the Beeb for you though. Skirts around the political, unless it's against the Tory Gov.

zakouma66 Fri 12-Apr-24 11:07:34

In what way to the BBC attack the Tory Government please?

Iam64 Fri 12-Apr-24 11:17:10

Freya - that’s nonsense to suggest leftie bias at the bbc. I’ll criticise its news coverage for being superficial now it’s rolling 24 hours

If you want in depth coverage watch Ch4

Anniebach Fri 12-Apr-24 11:41:37

Which is of interest to this country, a trial in America 1994
or riot in Southall Wednesday of this week

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 12-Apr-24 13:20:03

I think the BBC is doing well when those right of centre claim that it has a left wing bias and those on the left accuse it of being too right wing.
And OJ- I do believe that he got away with murder.

Iam64 Fri 12-Apr-24 13:43:12

Maybe both those things Annie

Anniebach Fri 12-Apr-24 13:47:13

Yes both but the BBC didn’t think so Iam .so wrong not to report the riot in Southall, i do not believe it was left or right wing bias

Norah Fri 12-Apr-24 14:11:02

Perhaps both.

The Rodney King riots in California in 1992 may well have had impact on the verdict in the criminal trial of OJ Simpson in 1994.

Lessons learned from history?

tickingbird Fri 12-Apr-24 14:17:19

The not guilty verdict in the Rodney King case was disgraceful. The riots that followed were truly awful but how any right minded person thought those police officers weren’t guilty is beyond me.

Anniebach Fri 12-Apr-24 14:18:09

Big difference 20 years and different country
