The matter of Angela Rayner's house sale isn't going away.....

Angela Rayner is now to be investigated for breaking electoral law. It seems she has said that she married, and then lived in her ex council house for the next four years, while her husband lived in his nearby ex council house with her brother. Neighbours at her address said that her brother lived in her house alone, and that he referred to her as his landlady. This issue seems to be getting bigger by the day - surely electoral rolls show where people are registered to vote, and this should clarify the matter.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 14-Apr-24 18:21:30

I expressly stated that I was changing the topic and what I said had nothing to do with the allegations. Yet again you use deflection as a defence of Rayner. It does you no credit.

I care not what others say or do. It is irrelevant.

Maybe you don’t know that people suffering from bipolar disorder are capable of rational thought sometimes, but not all the time .

Rayner exploited her mother’s inability to care for her family in order to further her career. That is nothing to do with enquiries into her possible breaches of the law, as I have already said. The two should not be conflated.

Casdon Sun 14-Apr-24 18:34:11

Winston Churchill was bipolar.
John Gummer publicly fed his daughter a burger in the BSE crisis.
Jacob Ree-Mogg dressed his child as a mini-me and took him electioneering.
That is exploitation for political ends. People have such short memories.

Nannee49 Sun 14-Apr-24 18:36:58

Rayner exploited her mother's inability to care for her family in order to futher her career only in your biased opinion GSM. It's not fact.

eazybee Sun 14-Apr-24 18:44:45

From Lord Ashcroft, who is entitled to write about whom he chooses; if it is untrue no doubt Mrs, Rayner will correct him.
If there is one thing Labour's deputy leader can be relied on to talk about, it's her deprived working-class childhood, which culminated in her becoming a mother at 16 and a low-paid home help. Again and again, Angela Rayner has returned to the topic – at Labour Party conferences, in media interviews, even in the Commons debating chamber. Along with her blazing red hair and her penchant for making inflammatory remarks, it's helped make her a semi-celebrity amid a sea of middle-class MPs.
Her advisers have tried to persuade her to 'change the record', says a former colleague, and find new things to talk about, but she refused. An ex-colleague said: 'We did say to her, 'Angela, we've got to move on from this stuff and focus on the future. You need to give them some idea of where you want to take people
But she would always hark back to her hard-luck history because it was the fail-safe method she used to disarm journalists or critics and for building up her reputation within the Labour Party. When she told her back story at Labour meetings they would always lap it up, and she would say, 'It's catnip to them.' Those were her words.
She was privately very dismissive of their response, but publicly she'd accept all the hugs and embraces people would give her as a self-proclaimed working-class heroine. She knew it played so well in the Labour Party.

It has clearly played well with her supporters on here, who believe her implicitly.

MissAdventure Sun 14-Apr-24 18:49:07

Nobody has said they implicitly believe her.

They have said that they fail to see what crime has been committed, and will wait until it its proven, rather than believe her neighbours.

I do know much about bipolar,, I supported my darling elder daughter from when it developed until her death, she took her life. I also supported her three children, through high school and university.
Do you know what hell children live through, the anger they hold ? Angela Rayner was so young, no father loving her, you
GSM have spoken on this thread of her being pregnant at 16,
You know this wasn’t the result of a desperate need for love ?
I have learned so much of her on this thread, my grief distracted me from politics for some years.
My thoughts for Angela Rayner has been ‘I wish she would cut her hair’ when out of recess I will definitely take more interest in her.

You haven’t read the thread have you eazybee?

Anyone who has watched interviews, or read about Angela’s childhood will be aware of the love Angela shares with her mother. Her mother seems to be proud of Angela and to appreciate the care Angela gave her as a child.
I find it depressingly tribal that posters who don’t share her politics descend to accusing her of exposing, somehow humiliating her mum. If Angela didn’t talk you can guarantee people like Ashcroft will. They want to shame and humiliate Angela and her mum
Anyone who had the good fortune to be involved with children like Angela, who somehow find the resilience to rise from the tough place they started will remember those children who became adults with pride 👍🏻

MissAdventure Sun 14-Apr-24 18:54:13

Bipolar is possibly linked to a higher than average IQ, according to some research findings.

LizzieDrip Sun 14-Apr-24 18:59:40

This is tosh from Ashcroft! He has admitted he didn’t do the research for the book, and it had been widely dismissed by commentators and critics. GSM you may ‘despise’ AR; that’s your prerogative - I don’t care what you think. But you have stopped low in your remarks about her relationship with her mother, which you actually know nothing about. Your comments are your opinion - they are not fact!

Wyllow3 Sun 14-Apr-24 19:01:28

Thank you Iam64 "I find it depressingly tribal that posters who don’t share her politics descend to accusing her of exposing, somehow humiliating her mum."
hear hear.

I think maybe it's wise not to speculate on a complex MH issue especially as it can be used in a denigrating way and we are not experts. (not criticising you, MissAdventure).

Please no, Anniebach
I love her hair. It really fascinates me.

That's fine; I never took it as criticism.

Please note my comment ‘this is tosh from Ashcroft’ refers to the quote from his book in eazybee’s post.

MissAdventure Sun 14-Apr-24 19:07:29

That's a polite word for it. wink

Angela Rayner is very unusual in doing so well given her deprived childhood. Having worked in child protection for over. 20 years I know how rare that is.
Instead of congratulating her I don’t understand why you are being quite so unpleasant.

completely agree Silverlining.. give her some credit

Others might want to humiliate AR’s mother. She doesn’t need to do it herself. She has exploited her childhood deprivation in order to gain sympathy and advance her career. I cannot believe that anyone here would exploit their mother in this way and reveal her problems and consequent parenting difficulties to the world. If they would do so I hope they will speak up.

Iam64 Sun 14-Apr-24 19:36:57

I dont agree that AR humiliated her mother, she talked honestly about her life. She clearly loved and loves her mum

MissAdventure Sun 14-Apr-24 19:41:52

I've already said, lots of members here have spoken about their early lives, which were very far from ideal.

Ok, we aren't "the world", but its been put out there.

Lots are the same people who criticise other people's parents for "not teaching them how to speak properly", not being hard workers, and being too stupid to know much of anything.

LizzieDrip Sun 14-Apr-24 19:54:06

She has exploited her childhood deprivation in order to gain sympathy and advance her career.

That is your opinion GSM. I would have thought someone with your ‘legal background’ would know the difference between fact and opinion.

JaneJudge Sun 14-Apr-24 20:06:20

She was a young carer, she has t let her mum down

JaneJudge Sun 14-Apr-24 20:06:38

Has not!

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 14-Apr-24 20:24:02

There was no reason for AR to speak about her mother’s problems, and the effect on her childhood, other than to gain sympathy and further her career. What I find totally unacceptable, unnecessary and cruel is apparently acceptable to others. I am glad that I don’t share your views. I will leave you to it, grateful that I am not one of you.
