Does Israel want full scale war in the Middle East?

I heaved a sigh of relief that most of Iran's drones and missiles had been brought down without reaching Israel and it seems little damage has been done, but it seems that is not the end of it. So, what do you think is going on? Does Israel need to have a full scale war with Iran and what do you think it would achieve or is this really about keeping Netanyahu's right wing govt on side?

Glorianny you seem to constantly omit the blatantly obvious about Hamas.

Hamas amassed weaponry, built tunnels (some under schools and hospitals) as ammunition stores, they hoarded food, water and fuel for the Hamas soldiers.

What did they do for the rest of the Palestinians in preparation for the assault from Israel which they knew would happen after Hamas’s dreadful murderous attacks of raping and hostage taking on 7/10/2023?

maddyone Wed 08-May-24 12:53:24

Katie, there already is freedom of religion in Israel. There are Jews, Muslims, and Christians living perfectly peacefully in Israel and they are all full Israeli citizens. Muslims and Christians fight with the IDF, although obviously they are very much outnumbered by Jews.
The problem is with the Palestinians.

It does make me wonder what Hamas promised that made Gazans vote for them.

Hamas was responsible for building the tunnels and supplying the materials to rebuild Gaza after the last time it was flattened. The Israelis were limiting the admission of goods. It was reckoned with the speed they were admitting materials it would take 80years to rebuild Gaza.
Basically Hamas offered people homes to live in, hospitals and schools. No wonder they were voted in.

Oh yeah they’re a great bunch of guys😡

One of the problems in any conflict is trying to get the opponents to understand the other side.
It's obvious on GN why that is.
Post any explanation of how things happen and you are immediately accused of something you have never said.
I explained why Palestinians turned to Hamas.
I wonder if you were homeless and starving would you bite the hand that fed you?

BTW, on a point made up the thread I think that the term Concentration Camps should not be used for other than the WW2 atrocities
In doing so you would ignore the deaths of thousands of Boers and an unknown number of black Africans, who weren't considered worth counting.
Over 27,000 Boers died and somewhere around 20000 black Africans. They were civilians-women and children. They died of starvation and disease.

The state of Israel is a fact of life and that’s not going to change what needs to happen is Israel becomes a secular state where politics are not influenced by religion.

Turkey does this successfully, although it has a predominantly Muslim population freedom of religion is fiercely defended. It’s not a question of Islam v Others because neighbouring countries have wars between different sects of Islam.

Israelis must change, Palestinians must change, if peace is ever going to last.

Murdering the Israeli Olympic team in 1972 was a fight for freedom? No, definitely.no

maddyone I fear your post of 09.14.59 this morning is true, a lot of Palestinians have been indoctrinated to hate Jews.

I think a lot of Palestinians hate Israelis. How many oppressed people hate their oppressor? Most I would think.

I hope you offer the same insight towards the Israeli people who have had Hamas (Palestinian) bombs and rockets fired into their country daily for many years, along with all the other atrocities they have/are in receipt of curtesy of Hamas(Palestinians)…

I sympathise with any victims of conflict.
But when you have one set of people oppressing another group, the oppressed have the right to fight for their freedom.
The Palestinians have not been free for many years.
Israel chose to oppress them.

The suffragette Emily Wilding Davison wrote on a paper wrapped round a stone she threw.
Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God
The words resonate today.

Wyllow3 Wed 08-May-24 10:24:06

So much talk about how much people hate each other, yet the only possibility of peace in the future is to find ways of working together:

Lest we forget - generations born now have not the sense of history remembered directly in the way us older ones knew as so very close

A girl in her early twenties at a music festival is an oppressor?
A baby of nine months is an oppressor?
A four year old girl who watched both her parents killed in front of her is an oppressor?
The girls raped (and then murdered) till their pelvis broke were oppressors?
Old people in their 80s are oppressors?

Jews have been oppressed sine time began.
Right now, in 2024, Jewish students are afraid to attend classes in their universities in the UK and America.
Jews are afraid to walk the streets in London and elsewhere.
Jewish children can’t wear their school uniforms to school for fear of attack.

Who is oppressed?

What about the Hamas murderer who phoned his father and boasted he had killed ten Jews? Is he oppressed? Or oppressor?

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 10:15:36

GrannyGravy yes I have read Lili Ebert books , I listened to
her say ‘ it has begun again’ I truly believe her,

It’s a hard read, but so insightful.

Lili Ebert is right.

Anniebach Wed 08-May-24 09:53:56

The singing of ‘From The River to The Sea’ , the Nazi placards
at protest marches , all denied.

I listened to Netanyahu yesterday, he speaks of the Holocaust,
he will be accused of fuelling fear.

Lili Ebert said ‘it’s started’
