Orban is also in attendance.

The police are allowing no one else to enter the premises.

Listening to Farage there is a worrying paper-thin line between his rhetoric and 1930s propaganda.

No wonder the authorities are worried.

If only people would realise how devious Farage is. He terrifies as much as disgusts me.

Perhaps you mean your comments to be helpful MayBee70?No doubt you do.

But do you realize your comment above is very arrogant?

You think you know better than those who disagree with you.
If only you could get them to see things the way you do.
The inference is you have a better understanding of, in this case NF.

May be you didn't mean it to come across in that way, but essentially this is what the opposition always says.

The same argument could be put to you, in reverse could it not?

Frankly I change or update things I think as and when.

Anyway, I don't see this unlawful closure of a conference as about NF.
It's about the blurring of the lines of lawful behaviour by those who purport to govern us.

Freedom of speech and action within the confines of the law incontrovertible so far as I'm concerned.

I agree with MayBee. Her statement is not arrogant. He is a devious man who I wouldn’t want to see involved in politics again.

So Farage is the only devious man in politics is he? 🙄

Nobody suggested he was, did they?

But you’re the one that has said some people are fools…

GrannyGravy13 Wed 17-Apr-24 15:07:20

I am probably one of the few GN members who has met Nigel Farage.

In person he is extremely knowledgeable, an excellent communicator with impeccable manners.

I do not agree with all of his views, then again I do not agree with all of any of the current crop of politicians or political parties views.

Perhaps I didn't express myself as clearly as I could have Gsm

It is arrogant to suppose that Mb has the competence to realize who or what NF is, but others haven't.

Again though, this isn't about individual people, it is about the arrogance of a Mayor using the state to implement his preferences.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 17-Apr-24 15:34:14

Farage has his fans. It is arguable that some are sufficiently blindsided by his rhetoric, which chimes with their own views, that they don’t see how devious and dangerous he is.

I am not sure how many times it needs to be shown that when freedom of speech is threatened those impacted the most are minorities and the vulnerable in our society.
What fools they are.

what fools they are ....

and when those fools are in positions of power we all suffer.

MayBee70 I acknowledged I endorsed the shutting down of free speech by the state as a foolish endeavor.
Therefore the people or person who took this action are the fools.
Especially when in the light of historical facts. Such as the minorities and vulnerable are always the ones who pay the price first last and hardest.

Notwithstanding we all will suffer, maybe you too, if we let issues like this slide.

Made me laugh earlier on when I heard that even the disillusioned Owen Jones disagreed with shutting this event down grin.

Anyway, the Belgium courts have ruled in favour of allowing it to continue.

I think on balance it was worth all the fuss, just to see that sanity still does reign.

Again Gsm arrogant of you to think you know how other people think and make decisions for themselves.

I have seen it for myself Namsnanny. I would liken it to the adoration of Trump.

No, you can't possibly 'know' how others come to their decisions. Or why they are different to your own.
All you can do is surmise.
Which leaves the door open for changing ones mind when new information comes along.

Surely Germanshepherdsmum is right to say that? Every controversial public figure has some followers who are zealots who believe everything they say and do, however outrageous that is to bystanders.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 17-Apr-24 16:33:32

Thank you Casdon. Zealots is a very appropriate word. We see it with Farage, we see it with Trump. They know what some people want to hear and tailor their rhetoric accordingly.

That could be said for any prospective politician or political party in waiting.

The MPs say what they think the electorate wants to hear and once elected votes in accordance with its party line/whip and the ruling party comes up with various reasons/excuses not to implement what was pledged in its manifesto.

I have no idea who I shall give my vote to in the GE, it will probably be a local independent candidate.

I think either I'm not explaining myself well enough, or there is some other kind of miscommunication going on here.

Anyone can have an opinion, and say anything they like.

I'm suggesting that saying you know why or how another persons mind works is subjective.
It cannot be proven and therefore is very unreliable.

The contentious words are they don't see.....

Anyway, another cat among the pigeons question is, who is more dangerous, a petty bureaucrat in Brussels or NF?
Answers on a postcardgrin

How is the closing of the conference unlawful? The Mayor send paperwork with the lawful reasons for closure. Have you read it?

Sorry, but I don’t think Maybee70 came across as arrogant at all and I agree with her!

With freedom of speech comes great responsibility, one of which is speaking the truth! IMO Farage is a hypocritical, creepy liar!

You said it yourself In My Opinion

I've explained myself up thread if you would like to read it.

Quite frankly Farage, Johnson and Trump all have followers who are almost cultish in their one sided adoration.

Anyone who cannot recognise this perhaps should look again!
