It’s the causes of illness that should be tackled! I can’t see that the proposals will solve anything.

Agree with both above posts. Also, will employers be willing to make appropriate adjustments in the workplace so that disabled people can take up a position. In many cases it’s not that those with a disability don’t want to work, it’s that places of employment are not suitable for employees who are, for example:
*wheelchair users
*sight impaired
*hearing impaired

I don’t think this is just about the disabled/ wheelchair users, there are 11,000,000 now not working between 18-64.
My own pet theory is that a lot found it comfy working from home or not working at all during the pandemic.
No matter who’s in control at government level, this needs urgent attention.

Today’s announcement was specifically about tackling what Sunak called the ‘sick note culture’, ie those people who claim benefits. There are 1.44 million people unemployed in this category, not 11 million.

He also says the changes will include tightening the criteria for PIP … which is already notoriously difficult to obtain and specifically targets the disabled. What a cruel, heartless policy!
