The Republic of Ireland and their tensions with migrants.

France encourages them cross the channel, the UK encourages them to cross the Irish Sea or they will go to Rwanda, Ireland can’t repatriate to UK because their courts have said UK is not safe because they will be deported to Rwanda, so Ireland gets the the hump with France and they finally do something to stop the boats.

A solution in the making?

I just read various articles zakouma66 from different sources. It’s interesting to learn stuff. As to Reform? No idea. But they are getting my vote. Can’t be any worse than Sunak banging on about his 100 days after the Tories have had 14 years. And Starmer - I despair when I hear from his shadow cabinet. Dawn Butler, Jonathan Ashworth, Lammy. Even Reeves isn’t as clever as I’d hoped and been led to believe.

Reform it is.

Can you explain what you admire about Richard Tice? And why you think he is superior to other politicians.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 01-May-24 20:56:46

Urmstongran you are never mean on.

Urmstongran Wed 01-May-24 20:52:46

Actually I’m a bit on edge this evening and I’ve only just caught on to your sneery assessment of me.

Oh well. I’d rather be naive than mean.

Goodnight all.

Irish trafficking gangs have contributed to this situation. Last month three people were arrested in Cork and the gang had been trafficking for at least five years. Another unrelated illegal immigration route from Zeebrugge in Belgium to the Irish port of Rosslare has recently been discovered.

Ten Irish nationals have (so far) been sentenced for their invovlent in a people trafficking gang which caused the deaths of 39 people in Essex in 2019.

What a handle you have on things, the entire population of Germany, Irish Trafficking gangs, Somali men. Such expertise.

How will Reform deal with these challenges I wonder?

Urmstongran Wed 01-May-24 15:22:45

Also, I imagine if ROI complain to France then France will simply raise the proposal of having a common rate of corporation tax across the EU and so destroy RoI's economy. Ireland can be held to ransom and be brought back into line by the EU very easily.

Urmstongran Wed 01-May-24 15:16:03

Indeed.

Good! Strong sentences will help deter people traffickers who, imo, are the lowest of the low.

I have a 7y.o. beautiful granddaughter and this tragedy breaks my heart into pieces. These Channel crossings, dangerous always, are going to become more so this summer unless stopped. Violent people are making this situation toxic. More deaths will follow unless these human traffickers are identified and stopped from offering this evil trade.

Also I think the family living in Sweden were being deported, at pretty short notice, because a Sweden deemed the area they came from in Iraq was deemed “safe”

He said he will never forgive himself. Tragic outcome to a decision he chose to make.
Apparently the family have been in Europe for a good few years but both Sweden and Belgium turned them down for asylum and they were due to be deported.
I would rather that the UK offered them a home here, subject to finding out exactly why they were due for deportation of course, and then turning down for asylum and deporting the group of young Somalians asap.”

I agree, I’m making a huge assumption that the young Somalian males were coming for economic reasons, but I could be mistaken.

Add them to the record number of more than 7,500 migrants who crossed the Channel in the first four months of this year, up 27% on last year already - provisional Home Office figures show.

Urmstongran Wed 01-May-24 14:12:25

799 migrants arrived by rubber boats today. I suppose the weather is milder now. More to come soon.

Oreo Wed 01-May-24 13:57:25

Just saying Puddycat that in this one case I think that we could offer them asylum but subject to finding out first why they were refused elsewhere.Or France could.😃

GrannyGravy13 Wed 01-May-24 13:30:23

PuddyCat this man (Ahmed) his wife and two remaining children are in France, they are waiting for their daughter’s death certificate in order to bury her.

He has said today he has no idea what to do or where to go next.

PuddyCat Wed 01-May-24 13:25:58

Apparently the family have been in Europe for a good few years but both Sweden and Belgium turned them down for asylum and they were due to be deported.

So the salient question here is why? Why did 2 European countries reject the application for asylum? And if they had just cause to reject them, why is Britain responsible for accepting them? They had to pass through France but didn't appear to have made any application for asylum there. Why not? Why Britain?

Well trying to seek one positive in this, it’s possible UK politicians have finally started to find the spine to wield some of the power returned to them by Brexit.

Previously, this type of intra-EU immigration issue was an EU matter, governed by things like the Dublin Agreement. The UK was ultimately something of a rule taker.

Ministers are now finding they can say "no" and mean it. There is no overarching EU agreement backed up by EU courts to overrule them or force a particular policy through. The buck actually does stop with Westminister.

And the Irish are finding it's suddenly a lot harder to browbeat an independent UK that can simply say "no" to things.

She was 7y.o. Other prospective migrants stormed the already overloaded rubber boat according to her41 y.o. father who was interviewed on the BBC this morning.

Some of these people do not have the extortionate money to pay the human traffickers so they are trying to force their way onto the dinghies instead. More tragedies will be in the offing from the French coast this summer.

This whole situation is untenable. And dangerous. It needs to be stopped. Some horrible people are making an awful lot of money out of this misery. Do they care? Do the heck. It will be business as usual today.

I completely agree with your statements that this situation needs to be stopped, and it’s dangerous and traffickers are far more of an issue than the migrants and that many of the migrants are now desperate.

Apologies, I’ve just read a statement from the father of this girl, yes she was 7, not 4. As if her age makes any difference at all, she was a vulnerable child.

The poor girl didn’t drown, she was pushed under foot by a group of young Somalian men who rushed the boat ( didn’t pay to go) and suffocated under them within the boat .
The Father says he desperately asked them to move so he could get her out and they refused and threatened him.
These men are now here in the UK. Lovely.

swvg-refugees.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Claiming-Asylum-in-the-UK-1.pdf
" One of the current challenges faced in the UK is the level of misunderstanding by the public around immigration, asylum seekers and refugees. This is a direct result of the popular media providing incorrect and inflammatory press coverage see for example Khan 2012 and as a consequence, people are not being informed by real facts and evidence. This has resulted in confusion at best and hatred at worst. This paper attempts to address some of those myths by presenting real data and evidence."

Sorry, Zakouma I was replying to Nicenanny but your name was at the front of my mind at the time.

Thats OK Elegran. Really, I've run out of steam. Nobody is listening to anything anymore. Its desperately sad.

And re the 41y.o. father of the 7 y.o. who died. Latest news:
“Iraqi father was trying to smuggle his family across the Channel because the Swedish Government ( which was where the family was living) wanted to return the family to Iraq because that country is now deemed to be safe.”

Yes I read that whole story. This poor man obviously didn’t feel it was safe though and was desperate. I’m not supporting what he did and I wish there were some good, quick solutions. I feel so sorry for him and his remaining family.
