The Republic of Ireland and their tensions with migrants.

France encourages them cross the channel, the UK encourages them to cross the Irish Sea or they will go to Rwanda, Ireland can’t repatriate to UK because their courts have said UK is not safe because they will be deported to Rwanda, so Ireland gets the the hump with France and they finally do something to stop the boats.

A solution in the making?

Dear EU,

We are very happy with Brexit - please tell your Irish colony to wind its neck in, Varadkar caused the friction and now it is paying the price.

The UK

Welcome to Paris Tent City no wonder they want to come to UK a hotel room and all meals waiting for
them here and their personal human rights lawyer and some had to cheek to moan about the Bibby Stockholm.

* I didn’t mean the ROI 😮

Urmstongran Mon 29-Apr-24 16:41:33

And who can blame them? Access to social media has opened their eyes to possibilities.

But this isn’t how it should be done.

The world (especially Europe) needs to wake up.

maddyone Mon 29-Apr-24 16:40:38

Wherever they’re coming from, it’s crystal clear that Ireland don’t want them.

It has been reported that the majority of migrants are coming from Sub Saharan Africa. That would be bourne out by the images we see on our screens when Border Force bring the boats in. There has been an increase in people coming from Vietnam too. Sub Saharan Africa is very poor, therefore it seems likely that most are economic migrants. Many, when asked, say they are seeking a better life.

Dublin is being termed ‘Tent City’ now by some Irish newspapers.

“ The string of makeshift accommodation, seen this morning stretching around the International Protection Office and continuing along the road, has been dubbed a 'tent city' by the Irish Examiner, which reported there are roughly 1,700 homeless asylum seekers currently in Ireland. The tents, packed tightly together with minimal personal space, have no access to sanitary facilities with migrants telling reporters earlier this month they were forced to use an open toilet in the corner of the camp. A large group of the migrants were moved to another location in south Dublin earlier this month but later returned because the conditions there were reportedly even worse. Several of their tents sported scrawled messages that read 'we are not subhuman' and 'homes for all'.

It comes as UK Government ministers today flatly rejected Dublin's demands to take back asylum seekers crossing from Northern Ireland”

And I don’t.

67% of asylum claims are accepted on initial application.

I'm sorry you se it as high horse. I was genuinely shocked by the term "illegals" for human beings.

There are lots of issues around this - countries all over Europe face them - clearly matters need addressing -

but hate words aren't necessary.

This. And Wyllow3's, Cossy's, LizzieDrip's and Growstuff's comments. I agree with every one.

The Vietnamese are trafficked by the Albanians. The Vietnamese have been working in grow houses for some time now.
As business is booming more farmers are needed.

The Vietnamese who died in the back of the lorry hadn't been trafficked by Albanians.

In any case, they are different from Afghans and Iranians or Syrians, who really are fleeing persecution. I know there are international efforts to try and catch some of these networks.

They’re not used to it.😄

maddyone Mon 29-Apr-24 11:28:42

Why have Ireland got a problem taking some migrants? Everywhere else does.

Hope so, The Irish are not going to be as meek and mild was we are

No, the Irish are quite confrontational and feisty about problems and their government is trying to deal with a novel situation of immigration instead of the usual emigration.

And they have our UK values front and centre

Well, I'm British through and through - and Reform doesn't represent my values.

Or mine, nor those of my family and the majority of my friends grin

Oh how very lovely for you 😇

^Nevertheless but asylum seekers are not per se criminals and using this language is designed to foster hate and dehumanising individuals and has been use by politicians deliberately to denigrate those who seek genuine help.^

Well said Wyllow; the voice of reason👏

I agree

*We have voted against it for years and for years, we have been ignored. Only an idiot believes a single mainstream party will do anything to stop immigration when the capitalist right love the cheap labour and the socialist left love the cheap voters.*

I’m another one who’ll be staying ‘an idiot’. So insulting on many levels.

I’m an idiotic cheap voter shock!

Cossy Mon 29-Apr-24 10:37:32

No one has said they are all criminals or that some aren't genuine refugees. That being the case The Irish republic should have no problem taking them if that's where they choose to go. Ireland is a rich country.

Are you have a laugh? A rich country? Stats please to back up this statement?

In response to Urmstongran’s call to ‘vote reform’.

Cossy
“No thanks! I’ll stay being an “idiot” thanks. I cannot say here what I feel about Reform and many of their supporters as I’d be banned!”

Totally agree with you Cossy. I’d have to join you in the ‘banned corner’. Never, never, never could I vote Reform!

Ursula von der Leyen’s party has proposed asylum deals with third countries, with Rishi Sunak claiming parties in the European Union were “following our lead” on illegal migration.

‌The European Commissioner’s European People’s Party (EPP), the largest in the European Parliament, has said it wants to “implement the concept of safe third countries.”

‌In its manifesto for the European Elections in June,it said: “Anyone applying for asylum in the EU could also be transferred to a safe third country and undergo the asylum process there”. (The Telegraph today)
