What should the Tories do now?

Braverman thinks that they should tack to the right. Leave the ECHR and cut taxes thus cutting back services.

Sunak thinks they should carry on as they are.

Andrew Street thinks that they should move to a more central inclusive conservatism. One nation.

I hope that they opt for one of the first two, because I want a Labour government, and that is one of the reasons (amongst others) that the voter is rejecting them.

If they do what Street suggests I think that many more people would be tempted to vote for the Tories, although I don’t think there is sufficient time for the Tories to show that they are indeed more inclusive and have turned away from their divisive, hardline policies.

Starmer like Sunak has supported a genocide. He will be remembered for his assertion that Israel had the right to cut off food and water supplies to more than 2 million people. Further, the money spent on weapons and illicit wars could go into education and the nhs. Neither leader has a moral compass.

The government isn’t giving arms to Israel brummie. The weapons are sold by manufacturers who are licensed by the government to export them. So there’s no question of money being spent which could go into education, the NHS or anything else - though weapons are of course given to Ukraine.

As a Conservative who realises that Labour will win, my concern is about women’s rights and whether Sir K Starmer will support women 100% and be prepared to say that someone with male parts is definitely not a woman, he has seemed uncertain at times. 😏

Maybe we should ask his wife.

Asking his wife gives no idea how He will stand on trans ideology.

But she might know whether he knows the difference between her and a trans woman.

They are always lefties on this site all the time with their political agenda .
Left to starmer ,we would still be in lockdown now .so you want that absolute rude example of a woman angela Rayner representing us abroad ?I don’t think so .
Ask these same people in a year or two time see what they think then once a Labour government has raised their taxes to pay for green policies, money for everyone and the country filled with illegal immigrants .

In the scheme of t hings, it;s not that important. Poverty, water, schools and housing are much more important.

It’s always so nice to hear a balanced perspective.

I am disgusted with the actions, and non-actions of the Conservatives over the past few years and I’m in total despair regarding them.

But, pray tell me, what do you think the union led Labour Party can offer? Read about their history of anti-semitism (Wiki). Do they know what a woman is? Is there anything admirable about any of them?

Please give details - and NOT on what they infer they might do, but what you truly think they would actually achieve?

I voted Tory last week at the local elections as our elected Tory Councillor has been absolutely brilliant at sorting and solving local issues for many years. But I’m at a loss to know who to vote for in a General Election. I can’t vote for Reform just because I think that Dr David Bull is fabulous!!

I want the stories to find some decent mps, I have read Nadine Dorries book The Plot and if it is half right I would get rid of the lot of them they are evil

Don’t believe everything ND says - a woman with an agenda.

Yes indeed, an embittered woman, who wasn’t a great MP herself.

I do actually think that there are some decent, hardworking MPs partywide, just none on our front benches currently.

If people genuinely wish to know about Labour’s policies then read their manifesto, ditto any other party running.

I wouldn’t bother with Reform UKs though!

I don't think the Tories have time to try and turn things around or change the minds of many voters so although I don't want to see Starmer as PM I think the best thing for the country to avoid all this worldwide uncertainty is to call a GE asap. Don't think this will happen though as Sunak seems very blinkered where public opinion is concerned. Time in opposition and a new leader is what they need and not Truss or Johnson.

I do wish Sunak would set a GE date, and soon.

I don’t think all this guessing, surmising and uncertainty is helping anyone, we still have purdah to work through when a date is finally set and endless campaigning, aka slating all but your own. I genuinely think the electorate just want to move on and know who is going to be steering the ship.

Annma Tue 07-May-24 13:58:43

Call a General Election immediately.

They need time in opposition to thrash it out. If history is anything to go by they will pick a couple of mindnumbingly useless leaders then get it 'right'. I would quite like them to do this quickly but that isnt the usual pattern. I think as we have witnessed governments with large majorities and no effective opposition are not a good thing. I say this a labour supporter.

....and as a lifelong Tory supporter I couldn't agree more.

There's no point in ousting Sunak and having another leadership battle as the result will be just more division and ineffective leadership. The Tories should do what the SNP has done since Hamza Yusuf resigned and simply reunite under one leader and preferably while in Opposition

Some people just do not understand. Thanks for pointing this out.
There is also video proof that the terrorists called Hamas are hijacking food aid, entering from Israel and Eygypt, fuel also, then selling it to Gazans at inflated prices.

Call a general election - that's what they should do now .....

I’m a leftie. Always have been, always will be. In fact, the older I’ve got, the more left wing I have become. Sunak should call a GE now. The longer he leaves it, the more ridiculous he looks. Why he couldn’t stand up to Braverman etc., I’ve no idea. I am afraid this country is not the world leader, along with the USA, it thinks it is. Sad but true. Along with many others, I believe that Brexit was the beginning of the end.

Splitting will be political suicide so that’s not going to happen, they will arrange a lot of give aways, remove as many migrants as possible in the next 6 months, to get as many votes as possible.
He knows he won’t win the GE but there is a good chance of a hung parliament, that will really mess up Starmers plans, it’s only 6 months plenty of time for dirty tricks.

Oh, I wondered if anyone had bought it. Not exactly balanced in her crush on opinion of Johnson though, is she?

Lots of Comment BUT aALL Ignore the ACTUAL FACTS.

IN the LOCAL Elections in BRITAIN in May 2024 IDIOTS would claim that LABOUR are on their way to Victory in the General Elections later on in the year B UT what they fail to see is the truth. Labour have only collected 39% of the Local Posts lost by the Conservatives with 61% going elsewhere.

Local Councillor Elections are TOTALLY Unrelated to NATIONAL ELECTIONS but if they were then these figures only show that Labour would not be the party gaining seats from the Conservatives.

Agreed.

Ironically, the headbangers on the extreme right, who the wimp Cameron was trying to placate by holding the referendum, have now effectively brought the Tories down.
