Nadhim Zahawi is off!

'Off' to a well-paid chairmanship, I gather.

He was parachuted in for the sake of diversity displacing a good local candidate, did nothing for the constituency, he was no more than a Tory party yes man, good riddance
It’s a very safe Tory seat I wondering just which rising star will get it.

Ah well. The Tory party are not a sinking ship. They are already sunk. They are a national humiliation. Economically inept, corrupt and out of touch. They have failed in every way and in all things. I want them consigned to History. They are all rats and shameless.

But guess what? they will get their index linked pensions, cushy directorships while we suffer at their decimation of the economy on a micro and macro level. Problem is - who is there as a viable alternative?

Reform possibly.

I agree with you about his letter.
The opening sentiment was particularly lovely.

I shall have a read of it. I have to admit to being disappointed when yet another one announces he will not be standing for election, I am looking forward to the 'Portillo moments' but it looks as if it will not be quite as exciting as I hoped.

Seems rather full of himself reminding us of all the positions he's held. Rather an obituary than a resignation.

I thought it was quite subtle in it's self praise. Other than that, nothing special.

I haven’t seen his resignation letter - I thought it would have been in your link. However I note from the link that he describes Shakespeare as his most famous constituent. Can one still be a constituent despite having been dead since 1616? Is this something the voter ID requirements are supposed to guard against?

Just another in a long list of dishonest MP's. Tax fiddler and managed to wriggle out of paying the full amount when he got caught out. Came to 'an agreement'. It's who you know sometimes.

I suspect HMRC had difficulty proving the exact amount due so a settlement was reached, including payment of substantial penalties. It is not unusual that this happens. I am not aware of any evidence that less than the full amount of tax and penalties proven by HMRC to be due was paid. And btw, I can’t stand the man so have no axe to grind.

Agreed Glorianny. It’s about saving face for many of these rich Tories now. People such as Zahawi don’t like to be on the losing side.

Yes, I was purely talking about the content of his resignation letter though, because we rarely see signs of humour these days, and I miss it, perhaps I’m on my own there.
