Labour. Our next Government.

You only had to watch Angela Rayner, Labour’s deputy leader, launching the new six-pledge card thing in Essex on Thursday. She bounced onto the stage with that expression politicians have the morning after a huge victory. Her face was one big soporific smile and she’s clearly been away attending a John Prescott word-mangling masterclass. “We aren’t,” she said, although she actually said “we are”, “promising the world,” which she quickly corrected to “the earth”, before adding: “But we are promising that what we are confident on we can deliver on.” Which I had to listen back to about six times to check I had it word for word.

Rachel Reeves then promised to “never play fast and loose with the public finances”. Let’s see how her VAT on private schools policy works out – indications are that already parents are eyeing up state-school alternatives for this September. Ed Miliband is going to “take back control of our destiny”, Yvette Cooper is “giving young people their future back”, while Sir Keir Starmer walked into that room filled with people in suits, tie-less in white shirt sleeves so you could notice him.

It all seems a bit vague. Maybe that’s deliberate?

Germanshepherdsmum; What a good answer. Closed minds and goading, says it all

I think it’s indicative of how little substance the Tory supporters on here have to argue with, that they’re stooping to personal insults about Labour politicians. Sounds rather like kids in the school playground. Why don’t you argue for your party’s policies?

Who has made a personal insult about Labour politicians? Not me.

I'm not actually a Tory supporter, (anymore), nor am I arguing for their policies. I would, however, like to see someone in charge who can speak good English, (having spent two weeks last month helping DGS learn the prescribed grammatical rules for his Yr 6 sats tests).

Can any of the staunch blue rosette wearers tell me exactly why I should vote for a continuation of their dire government

I’ve asked the same question about 5 times today on this and another thread. Still haven’t received an answer - or even anything approaching an answer!

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-May-24 16:32:57

There is no point in engaging in debate with people who have closed minds and ask ‘questions’ purely to goad. I have no intention in arguing with you, Lizzie, or anyone else.

How is their front bench any better than the Labour one and perhaps they could name any one thing that they have done of note on the International stage.

MayBee70 Sat 18-May-24 16:23:32

Can someone remind me who is on the front bench for the Conservatives at the moment ( so I can get inspired)?

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-May-24 16:18:20

A pound for every time she said that? I lost count.

Joseann Sat 18-May-24 16:17:35

"Me, Keir and the Labour Party have your back".
Grrrrr!

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-May-24 16:14:28

It’s a frightening prospect. I look at their front bench and despair.

Primrose53 Sat 18-May-24 16:12:23

God help us if Labour do get in! Look at the mess they have made in Wales.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-May-24 16:11:10

‘Everyone given an equitable start in life’ - that’s never going to happen Cossy so you’re asking the impossible. You don’t seem to be up to speed with what is happening with the economy. It’s not unstable.

LizzieDrip Sat 18-May-24 16:10:08

I don’t want another Blair. The UK is a completely different country from the Blair years. KS faces different challenges and needs to repair a broken society. I believe in Labour. I’m afraid I just don’t understand why, after 14 years of decline under the Tories, some people still say they are the best government for our country - and I really would like to understand people’s thinking. GSM I know you’ve commented on another thread but you haven’t answered my question about why the Tories deserve my vote. Just dismissing Labour as ‘bullsh**’ without any reasoning is beneath even you GSM.

Urmstongran Sat 18-May-24 16:02:00

Wyllow3 no-one is forcing you to comment.
If it’s not popular it will wither away!

I think there’s mileage in both threads. One was about the ‘rebranding of the Tories’.

This one is about Labour.
And btw the quotes from the Labour opposition bench are all quite accurate! I checked.

Perhaps we don't want another Blair. Perhaps we are just desperate to get rid of the Tory government. I don't think that Labour spout any more "bulls*it", as you call it Germanshepherdsmum, than your beloved Tories! (See MayBee70 on Brexit and levelling up).

Gave a good flavour though! 😁

Grandstanding 🙄 when there’s a thread up and running on issues which is co wrong the topics with some depth

At least I can hold my head up and say I didn’t vote for Brexit MayBee.

Labour is Labour Pantglas. Anyone thinking Starmer is another Blair needs to give their head a wobble.

Many of us don’t want another Blair. We simply want a safe pair of (elected) hands, some economic stability and everyone given an equitable start in life.

I live in North Wales and I could weep over the mess Labour have made of our Health service over the 25 years they’ve been in power. Perhaps there’s a better standard of Labour over the border?

I watched it. I couldn’t believe people would fall for it. What a load of bulls*it.

Well, they fell for Brexit. And levelling up…

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-May-24 14:52:57

I have commented on another thread.

Small chunk of a parody lifted from todays' Telegraph.
